@jrs1996 : Are you using OOo version provided by Ubuntu or have you downloaded
OOo 2.4.1 from openoffice.org website ?
I do not have such kind of problem under Ubuntu with native OOo version.
If you are using the version provided by Ubuntu I suggest you to ask a Ubuntu
user forum in order to verify you have not an installation problem.
Another way : try to desactivate Compiz.

[ui-issues] [Issue 79878] OO.o can not select modern font faces conveniently

@meywer Ben states plainly in http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12735
that having Condensed a font family is a legacy deprecated property for systems
that can not parse modern font attribute. It's not intended to be used by
anything remotely current.

Linux core font libraries have been switched to the modern behaviour after a
grace period some time ago. Going back to the previous behaviour or activating
both at once would be a regression. (and BTW opentype specs were written by
entities like MS so trying to fight the tide would result in major compatibility
problems in a few years)

The problems occur at the OO.o level, which is still being updated to take font
format changes into account. If you want to complain, complain this update is
taking too long, do not ask to remove what progress has already been made by the
fine developpers.

When opening some externally-generated documents, OOo immediately crashes. The
worst part of this is that OOo will try to recover all open documents the next
time it starts, including the one that crashed it, resulting in another crash.

After Recovery you can't select to not recover this file but to recover the
other files where you are working on.

so you get data lost

1. Create a New Text document, and open the Styles panel (F11)
2. Dock the styles panel to the right side of the text document:
Ctrl+doubleclick to dock, them drag to the right side.
3. Save the document (Maybe this step is not important.)
4. Close the OOo, and re-open it
5. Create a new text document: the Styles panel is docked on the left side,
however in step 2 it was moved to the right side, so it should be on the right
side.

I've also tested the issue with the navigator panel, and the result is the same.
However sometimes the docking position is saved, but I don't know exactly when.
Right now the Styles panel on my computer is always docked on the left, and the
Navigator panel is always docked on the right, if I open a new text document.

88039 and 92324 are similar issues, but they are about the behavior of
styles/navigator panel in different applications (writer/impress etc.).

During my investigations concerning Issue 92809 I saw that background color will
not be used correctly for the complete document.
I checked with 2.4.1 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[680m17(Build9310)] and also with Ooo-dev 3.0.0 Beta Multilingual version
English UI WIN XP: [OOO300m2 (Build9343)] (on the same PC). Same behaviour with
both versions.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open new OOo DRAW document
2. Menu 'Tools - Options - OOO - Appearence - Custom Colors -
Document Background' Change from Automatic to blued
expected: complete document and may be area outside page limitations should
be blue, thumbnail in page area should look like Slide itself
actual: contents area remains white, that's shown correctly in thumbnail
3. Right click on Page Area Slide 1, context menu New Page
expected: Slide 2 should look like slide 1
actual: here the contents area is blue (as it should be), thumbnail view for
page 1 and page 2 show correctly blue contents area. Unexpectedly,

thumbnail for Slide 1 now completely blue
4. Click on thumbnail for Slide 1 to change to slide 1
unexpectedly, page view and thumbnail differ

Unexpected behaviour continues if you change back go Background Color -
Automatic

Docked panel position is saved only, if you turn off and on the panel:
Dock the Styles panel on the right.
Press F11 to turn the panel off
Press F11 to turn the panel on.
From this point, if you open a text document, the Styles panel always will be
on
the right side.

The panel position should be saved after the move, without pressing F11 two
times.

I checked with Ooo-dev 3.0.0 Beta Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m2 (Build9343)] and can confirm the reported effect. Only the start
cell, but not a range will be selected. Also reproducible with my own documents.
Not reproducible with 2.4.1.

I see this as a show stopper for 3.0

@jes:
I see this wrong behaviour in all area pickers in CHART, but nowhere in CALC
(for example: special filter area). Where did you find the reported bug in CALC?

@ul: I have the same problems as Sigrid has in a different Mandriva setup.

I have Mandriva 2008.1 together with KDE 3.5.9. I installed OOO300_m2 and after
the launch I can do nothing but take a look at the open OOo. Each action equal
if it's opening a document or typing some text I causes OOo to crash.

It looks like I'm not able to send a crash report I just get the file recovery
dialog. Is there a chance for me to get an error code or something similar?

The only think I got was this output on the console:
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
#
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xae34, pid=15193, tid=3047302848
#
# Java VM: OpenJDK Client VM (1.7.0-b24 mixed mode linux-x86)
# Problematic frame:
# C 0xae34

I see this ... in CHART, but nowhere in CALC.
Where did you find the reported bug in CALC?

No, I was wrong. I also see the problem with all the pickers in Chart, but not
in Calc.

I tried the Data Filter Standard Filter More Copy results to: picker,
which showed the same behavior. I forgot that is the /correct/ behavior for that
one ;-) The other pickers I've tested in Calc, that should pick a 2d area, work
fine.

Changed component back to Chart.

There is a cool feature on MS Office of allowing to enter a value in multiple
cells under selection by
typing and pressing ctrl+enter. It will be cool to have that in OO.

I was trying to create a serializable class that would hold the XTransferable
data of the current selection in a Writer document. I need this in order to be
able to store the selection to the database (preserving the formatting) and
later retrieve it and insert it in some other document.

I created the following class:

erack: 'Funny guy'? I am glad I was able to amuse you.
What about the inventor of the zero? He must have been a 'funny guy' too. (Who
needs something to represent nothing?)
People who design digital clocks are also funny: One second after 7:59:59, the
time is 8:00:00, not 8:01:01. And, if the clock works on the 24-h system, it
shows 0:00:00, not 1:01:01, at midnight; funny...
Pope Gregory XIII was a 'serious' guy: He started his calendar with year 1. Had
he been a 'funny guy', he would have started with year 0, and we would have
celebrated the year 2000 2000 (not 1999) years later; also, someone born in 10BC
would have been 30 (not 29) in 20AD.
After years of Modula-2 programming, I do know that array indices are easier to
manipulate when they start at 0, and that would likely apply to arrays used in
spreadsheet software. Calc code would become smaller and faster, even for users
who don't care about a row 0.
OK, Excel rows start at 1. So, what? Must OO be as short-sighted as MS?

Just upgraded to build BEB300_M3. As Regina recommended, I checked the setting
for Expand references when new columns/rows are inserted and it was unchecked.
Now that it is checked the issue is resolved.

I don't recall doing this for version 2 so it must have been defaulted to that
setting.

Thanks for the help...Eric

Upgraded to build BEB300_M3.

I would like the ability to paste information into a spreadsheet and retain the
font type and size to remain set to the spreadsheet's settings. I used to be
able to do this in OO 2.x and can still do it in Microsoft Excel by pasting
values into the formula bar and not directly into the cell.

Is there a setting I can choose to make this happen or is this some new feature.
If it is a new feature, I think it should be removed as there is no longer a
method of retaining the format of a cell when pasting in data.

I believe this is invalid / WONTFIX.

Of course, always if the label on the key does not match with the (localized)
keyboard layout, you will run into problems. But that is a general (and may be
OS) problem, but in no case an OOo issue. And how should OOo know about the
lables on your keyboard?

I am using 2.4.1 now. The font type doesn’t seem to be affected, but the font
size is. If the row or column is moved or deleted it happens. When a column is
moved or deleted all the rows change. When a row is moved or deleted only the
cells in that row change. When they are moved the cells in the new location
retain the proper font size.

If a cell or group of cells are moved or cut this happens in the cells that are
emptied, but not if they are deleted using the delete key.

Along with the change in font size, the text alignment is also changed to the
default. If the contents of a left-aligned cell are moved to another cell, the
original cell reverts to default.

I'm unable to create frame styles which use an absolute Y coordinate.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create frame style sheet and select the Type tab
2. Select From Top and set a value
3. Close the dialog and open it again
4. From Top is selected, but the coordinate input is disabled and set to 0
5. Reselecting From Top enables the input box, but the value is discarded
again after the dialog is closed

I built own version of OOo (ooo300-m2) and I found all UI related Hungarian
string is equivalent with Swedish (sv) strings. Then I checked Hungarian lines
of localize.sdf files, and all of them have wrong Swedish strings. Helps seems
still OK.
I found same error in trunk too checked in dev300-m28 too.

Please fix it ASAP, also I nominate this issue as a showstopper, raised prio to
P2.

File|Export as PDF Writer document when in Web Layout view changes to Print
Layout view.

To reproduce:
 - create a Writer document
 - Under the View menu select Web Layout
 - Select File|Export as PDF ...

The view will change to Print Layout view after the PDF is created. This
requires the user to manually return to the View menu and select Web Layout
which was being used initially.

I confirm the crash for OOO300_m2 under Kubuntu 6.06.
For me after recovery OOo freezes and I have to kill the process soffice.bin.
If I launch soffice in a terminal (after recovery) I get the following error
message :
terminate called after throwing an instance
of 'com::sun::star::container::NoSuchElementException'

Hope this helps.
Best regards. JBF

Building OOo version 2.4.1 from source on Linux, with TIMELOG defined, gives
this error:
/usr/src/OOH680_m17/dbaccess/source/filter/xml/xmlfilter.cxx:189: error:
'pStreamName' was not declared in this scope

This pStreamName is only used in a tracing log, so I commented the whole #ifdef
TIMELOG block out and then it build OK.

The removal of pStreamName was done in this commit in march 2006:

When using the record changes feature, OpenOffice Writer auto-corrects entered
text based on the already erased text of earlier versions.

Do this to see the bug:

1. Enter a complete phrase like Tom loves Tina. (Ending with a .)
2. Enable Record changes feature via Edit-Changes-...
3. Erase Tina. insert a boy named Charly.
4. If you have auto correction on, you will get Tom loves A boy named
Charly. (a is changed to an uppercase A because of auto correction, as
there is a point in front of the a, which was erased in step 3 and is displayed
with a strike through it)

What OOo should do: an erased . shouldn't be considered by autocorrection.
What it does in reality: the erased . makes letters switched to upper case
automatically. This is an anoying bug.

Sure there are warnings on 10.5, but I believed 10.4 was the baseline ?

FYI, there is an existing macro for deprecated attributes and maybe something
like:

#undef DEPRECATED_ATTRIBUTE
#define DEPRECATED_ATTRIBUTE

Can solve the problem. More information are available in
/usr/include/AvailabilityMacros.h

Reporting for Dev300m29, which is not in the pull-down list.

In my OOo, the download automatically option (in ToolsOptions menu) is
unselected from the very beginning (I have cross-checked this). Yet OOo has
started the download without asking for permission.

I came to know only when the green Update button in the OOo window showed a
balloon called download of update in progress.

Initially I thought it is updating the plugins (which is Ok because plugins are
small). But this turns out to be the main OOo application.

This is a problem because OOo installer is large, and I prefer to download it
through a scheduler, to download it during the free download hours offered by
my ISP.

The only unusual thing that happened before problem: OOo crashed TWICE, while
trying to load a 380-page complex document. Each time I canceled the recovery of
the document (because I had not even opened the document, let alone edit it).

I wonder if the Update automatically option is affected by these crashes...

The recovery wizard has two tasks:
1. Recover the crashed document(s) and
2. Report the crash to Sun

Both tasks should be independent. Instead, the wizard is designed in such a way
that if the user does not want to recover a document, he cannot send a crash
report also.

There are many cases where the user may not want to recover his document, but
still he would be interested in sending the crash report. For example, when OOo
crashes while loading the document. Since the user has not edited the document
yet, he won't prefer to recover a potentially corrupted document.

Desired: The wizard should treat recovery and reporting tasks independently.

p.s. This happened only with Dev300m29 (which downloaded dev3.0m1 on its own).

I have used almost all earlier beta versions also, but never faced this problem.
