[framework-issues] [Issue 94868] Persistent settings are ex tremely confusing and non intuitive
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94868 Issue #|94868 Summary|Persistent settings are extremely confusing and non in |tuitive Component|framework Version|OOo 3.0 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|tm Reported by|eruditehermit --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 11 08:30:11 + 2008 --- The only way to have customized persistent settings in openoffice.org is to create a template with the customizations and then set the template to the default so that it is used at openoffice.org startup. This is very confusing for a new user. All settings in any tab should be persistent automatically with an option in each tab to reset the default setting. This way the user can easily customize any component in any menu such as page margins and have openoffice.org remember the settings accross sessions and it also enables users to reset the defaults if they make a mistake. An example of the current behavior is as follows: 1) A user wants to set page margins to 1 inch and have openoffice.org use it as the default for every new document created 2) User goes to Format-- Page and sets page margins to 1inch 3) user finishes writing that document and when the user opens a new document, margins are again at the default. __ 4) If user searches online or asks in a chat room, they are pointed to the option to create a template in File-- Templates-- Save 5) User has to then go to File--Template--organize 6) User has to RIGHT click on the newly created template and set as default template. The steps after the underscore are complicated and confusing for a non power user. Instead of the steps after the underscore, the settings that the user changes should persist automatically accross sessions so steps 1-3 should be enough. If the user desires to go back to default settings, there should be a button in Format-- Page that allows the user to reset to default page margins. Similarly, any settings in any of the settings tabs throughout openoffice.org should be persistent automatically, with a reset to defaults button in each tab. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This can be used either as speaker notes or as handout notes; but not both. Note that these notes are totally different; both in content and use: * Speaker notes contain expert level comments and additional information required to answer queries from the audience. They also contain tips/reminders to the speaker for introduction, ice-breakers, coffee break, etc. In dual monitor mode presentations (i.e., when the presenter uses his laptop as prompter), he needs to see THESE notes (and NOT the handout notes). * Handout notes are more basic level. Typically, they elaborate the bullet points in the slide; or comment on the charts/figures provided in the slide. Creating two different presentations (one with speaker notes and the other with handout notes) is not viable, because you cannot change both documents in sync. Therefore, please provide an extra area to enter the speaker notes (as opposed to the audience notes). Also, in dual monitor mode, the presenter should be able to view the speaker notes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When this text mark is later cited as 'reference text' at the end of a line, a soft line break may wrap between the 30 and the ms, although the protected space is intended to keep the number and the unit together. I have a vague sense that troublesome behaviours may be worsened by the relatively strange way in which OOo 3.0.0rc1 responds to a force quit (with or without a forced unmount of the associated volume). A highlight from http://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/8478 where I initially (but not later) suspected an issue limited to WebDAV service from Plone: once, earlier, my computer froze completely whilst the application/connection were in that state Although complete freezes (distinct from logged panics) may be extraordinarily rare, *if* there any is any association with behaviour of OOo processes *then* I should encourage fixing/improving sooner rather than later. Whilst I can't contribute code, I'm fairly well prepared to test in a Mac OS X environment. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A | B This is the only change - 1 | 1 1 | 2 | 2 When I filter using the column B to find the empty cells, I incorrectly obtain: 1 | The header row has disappeared, it seems it has been considered as part of the filtering process which is incorrect in my opinion. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a much better way of handling the settings than the current method of having the user create templates and make them the default template. The template method of persistent settings needs to be changed to improve usability for new users because it is confusing and there are a lot of non obvious steps required to make settings persist across documents and sessions. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 94887] Small bug in calc (roundof f error)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94887 Issue #|94887 Summary|Small bug in calc (roundoff error) Component|Spreadsheet Version|1.0.0 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|big_d33 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 11 22:59:47 + 2008 --- I downloaded latest version of OO 3.0.0 on 10-11-08. In cell A1 in the spreadsheet if you divide 1/10^8 it displays 0.0001 in standard notation. So far so good. For cell A2 divide this number by 10^4 (=A1/10^4)it now just displays a 0. For cell A3 multiply the result from A2 by 5 (=A2*5)once again it displays just a 0 in standard notation. Now divide A3 by A2 (=A3/A2) and you should get a 5. Instead you get a message #DIV/0! This problem can be corrected by clicking on cells A2 and A3 and changing then to scientific notation with the E+3 button and then it performs the calculation correctly. Is there a way (in standard notation) to automatically display the answer in scientific notation and avoid these rounding off errors? Calculators do this and it would make doing physics homework on a spreadsheet much easier. If you could fix this your spreadsheet would be awesome! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 94885] Undo of edit Fontwork text does not change the text immediately

You can see it if you read the tooltip of that undo action at the icon or open the drop-down list with the little triangle. But there is indeed an error. The undo action restores the old text, but the change is not shown. It needs a further action like changing size to show the changed text. I change the summary acccordingly. Component is likely not Writer, but I don't know whether Framework or Graphic is correct. It is not a simple redraw problem, because the text remains wrong if you scroll oder minimize/maximize window or force refresh with shift+ctrl+r. The error is not only in Writer, but also in Draw, Impress, and Calc. I see the error only on Fontwork objects, not on other shapes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Can someone at least explain how the mapping is done so I can adjust either the mapping or the fonts? This problem has been present in every version of OpenOffice. I agree with the original report. Bullets are one of the most common formatting features. Any word processor that can't handle them properly hardly seems worth further investigation. Unfortunately I have to be able to exchange documents with MS Word. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
