The arabic unicode character U+06DD arabic end of ayah cannot be joined with
digits in OpenOffice. Normally this character is joined with up to 3 digits,
wich are placed inside this character. In the attachment you can see an example
of a correct junction (in the two red circles the digits are placed in the
arabic end of ayah character). This feature must be work with hindi and arabic
digits and should work with all digits.

Maybe you can get some additional information with examples here:
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsiitem_id=arabicfonts

Thank you very much.

--- Additional comments from beppe...@openoffice.org Thu Jan 1 10:29:15

I tried in Dev300_m38 the new PDF password security UI, I think the set/unset
behavior of the buttons is handy, but I miss the possibility to set the
permission password only (and have the file encrypted) and at the same time have
the file read by everyone.
That is, in specification at
http://specs.openoffice.org/appwide/pdf_export/PDFExportDialog2.odt , on row
146, the sentence “Setting only the permission password will force the open
password to be the same” has a side effect: you can no longer export a PDF file
that can be read by everyone and at the same time have some permission set
through a permission password.
IMHO , this is the vast majority of the PDF files available on the web.

Another observation is about the new strings.
According to 3.5 of PDF 1.4 specification, the document is encrypted as well
when you specify access restrictions (e.g. the possible use of only the owner
password).

Then you can have four level of access to a PDF document:

a) no password: PDF is not encrypted, then no access restrictions (print, copy,
etc...): anyone can read anyone can change the document;

b) permission password only: PDF is encrypted, access restriction can be applied
(limited print, cannot copy, etc...), only if you know the permission password
you can change access restriction: print, copy, etc..; but anyone can read it;

c) open password only: PDF is encrypted, you can open the PDF document only if
you know the open password. In this case the user who knows the open password
has no access restriction because the OOo PDF export filter enables all the
access rights (see 3.5.2 of PDF 1.4 spec, for an explanation of expected PDF
viewer action);

d) both open and permission password set: PDF is encrypted, points b) and c)
both apply together.

May be strings at #3 and #5 on table 4 of the OOo PDF export specification need
to be adjusted?

In any case it seems that the change was only made in the UI, the API behavior
seems unchanged.

This was first exposed in issue 69923 but I missed the point then, sorry.
I had time to build a 3.1 targeted version only now.

I think this should be fixed in 3.0.1, this is a regression in a externally-used
tools (e.g. for openclipart) to generate the gallery files.

This was even reported against beta, so there was time to fix it for 3.0, but as
usual, the responsible pepole didn't care...

[ Filing an issue from the discussion in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=504323 and on d...@udk ]

[...] I'm working with GCC4.4 svn and installed it
in /usr/local. OOo, instead of using the straight /usr/lib's
libgcc_s.so.1, used the unstable /usr/local/lib's one. Everything went
back to normal once I uninstalled GCC4.4 svn.

Yes, confirmed. I get the same crash when setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to
/usr/lib/gcc-snapshot/lib.

I get a presentation, created by an user with OOo 3.0. He saved the presentation
and opened it again. Now the slides 7 to 10 are not visible anymore.
If I open this file with OOo 2.4.2 all slides are visible. I'm able to save the
presentation with OOo 2.4.2 and reopened it with OOo 3.0.1 and every slide was
now visible.
I tested it with OOo 3.1m37 with the same result. For me this is a regression to
OOo 2.4.x.

Hello. After installing openoffice 3 on Ubuntu 8.10 ,i have this problem with
the writer. Whether i try to open a new document or an existing document, the
writer crashes and says that an unexpected error occurred and all my
documents will be saved. Then it tries to recover the document and this goes on
in circles. I didn't manage to find anything to help me on the Internet. I found
something very similar but it was for kubuntu, a kde problem, not a gnome one.
(This problem occurres both when i upgrate from Oo 2.0.4 to Oo3, or when i
install Oo3 from scratch). Thanx a lot guys for your time.

If I reopen the document with 3.0, 3.0.1 and 3.1m37, delete the second and the
third slide and save the file again, I can't see any text inside slide 7 to 10,
even if I reopen the file with OOo 2.4.2.
Therefor I had to upload the original file with the slides 2 and 3. OOo 3.x is
not able to display the text in the slides 9 to 12. It display only the
headlines of the slides.

I've just hit this - I imported a word document with a table with some cells
having a background colour, and I couldn't make more of the cells the same
colour because there's no way of getting the colour the original author used
into the palette.

The fix here is to put an Add New Colour... button on the standard colour
picker. This would take you to the Colours section in the Options, prefilling
the R, G, B values with the values from the currently-chosen colour and (if it's
not an existing colour) giving it a name like New Colour #1. One could then
just click Add to add the colour, or add a different colour, or whatever.

There is still one situation where the empty paragraph is impossible to remove:
after a table at the end of a document. Using Ctrl+Shift+Delete removes the
trailing empty paragraph, and the paragraph is not present in the saved
document's XML, but on loading, Writer adds the empty paragraph again.

This situation is common when a table is used to produce the page layout and may
contain the entire document content, e.g. a reference card or catalog.

See the attached document for a demonstration.

thanks for reporting your issue

I think checking the current date/time all the time(e.g. every minute) and
updating the information is not really pratical for this rare case (btw, the
text is already changed once you click into the note), but I will additionally
add support for updating the text when the note is hidden and shown again

I tried to find a crash dump, but didn't find any, so i can't upload it.
So i attached my system profile. Maybe you find something unusual there.

I have some csv files with a lot more than
65k entries, that currently is the limit on
how many line will be read.

I could use a work around that limit. The idea
is when opening a file I can choose to only
read a subset, like every 10th entry with an offset,
or for every 10 choose one at random.

When you open the source of the attached document, you can see, that the cell
content in the slides 9 to 12 are empty in those cells. The document has got
corrupted.

You cannot compare it with the view in OOo2.4, because there the pictures of the
tables are shown. Native tables in impress doesn't exist in OOo version 2, but
in OOo2 only Calc OLE objects are possible. If you save the file in OOo2.4, than
only these pictures are inserted and therefore you see them in OOo3, but there
are no longer tables.

From the pictures one can see, that there has been content in those cells. Now
a
description is needed, how the file was produced, for to reproduce why it is
corrupted.

How to reproduce:
 - Use OpenOffice.org under KDE/with KDE integration
 - Save a file under a specific name, e.g. test.odt
 - Create a subfolder called like the file you created, in this example test,
in the directory where you saved the file
 - Click the Export as PDF toolbar icon or select File - Export as PDF

Result:
 - The save dialog's default location is in the test subfolder
 - The proposed filename is test.odt. If you continue with this name (and have
automatic suffix enabled), your exported PDF file will be located in this
subfolder and be called test.odt.pdf

Expected behaviour:
 - The save dialog's default location is in the folder where you saved the file
 - The proposed filename is test. If you continue with this name, your
exported PDF file will be located in the same folder where you saved the file
and be called test.pdf

Here is a link to some vba code for importing large files, 65k plus lines, into
Office 2003. I am not familiar enough with Starbasic to know how to convert
this code. Someone with this experience on the list might be able to make it
functional for Calc.

This is expected, default UI behavior in OpenOffice Calc. Recommend that
you file a feature request with OpenOffice.org.

** Also affects: openoffice
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

--
data entry does not work with tab key
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312897
You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber
of the bug.

Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: New
Status in “openoffice.org” source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When entering data into a spreadsheet, each line representing a data record one
normally enters the value and hits tab to move to the next field.

That does not work if a similar value has previously been entered in the cell's
column.
The auto suggest mode kicks in and gives an option. GREAT! I like it.

however, only clicking enter and moving down a row will pick the suggested
value, clicking tab to move right is locked and only gives error beeps.

This is particularly frustrating when entering data records where the tab key
makes for orderly entry of datum and the entry key worked so nicely to return
one to the first field of the next record.

Please make the tab key work for data entry when a value is suggested.

Thank you.

OO.o has inconsistent display of object handles through OO.o applications, such
as
Writer - small 2D
Calc - small 3D
Impress - large 2D
Draw - large 3D
.

Among these, interestingly enough, only Calc has options to change how to
display object handles. In [Tools Options OpenOffice.org Calc View],
'Simple handle' and 'Large handle' options can be selected.

It is necessary to apply consistent display of object handles and to make the
options available through all OO.o applications.

I'm disappointed... OO 3.0 and this bug still remains... and this bug poses
strong limitations to scientific writing... Best regards and let's look forward
on 2009!

I agree with klimass.

The current selection is unacceptable for scientific use. Circles in particular
are needed.

You can work around it using the symbols from File or Gallery, but I really need
plain filled and unfilled circles in a vector format so they scale well for
reproduction. The option to choose a colour should also be included.

There are a lot of actions in Writer which work on the current paragraph: on the
paragraph the caret actually located in. If the actual paragraph were
highlighted (that is, have slightly different background color than other
paragraphs), it could improve usability and the user's understanding about the
working of the software.

So as the user wanders around with the caret in a text, the paragraph containing
the caret should be highlighted. That would allow the user to visually recognize
the exact scope of paragraph formatting commands such as alignment, indentation,
paragraph styles, etc.

It can be a usability enhancement.
