How to reproduce :

- Open several documents, including one Draw document.
- Click on play with the remote

Happens: the draw document appears in fullscreen ( borderless)

Expected : no effect, because Draw shouldn't respond to such events

I'll try to fix that.

As far as the crash report, if you are talking about the automatic prompt that
comes up at the time of the crash, yes. If you speaking of anything else, no.

I got this back from that report:

Dear User,

Thank you for sending the error report generated by the OpenOffice.org error
report tool. Your error report has been received and will be evaluated. The ID
of the error report is rxvb8vc.

Please do not reply to this automatically generated response.

As I worked on restoring the lost data, it turns out the whole issue is
completely different than it originally appeared. I believe now that the file
was not overwritten by the crash, but rather was never saved with the text to
begin with. It is definitely still a software problem though. It appears the
Table function has serious issues. When the document is saved, often the text
in the table is not saved with it. I would type several blocks of text and save
the document, close it out and reopen it. The text is not there. Everything
else is there, but not the text. It seemed like if I only enter one row of text
at a time and save it, close it out and reopen it, it would work. But if I
entered three rows of text, save it, close it out, reopen it. No text.
Previously entered text that was saved successfully was still there, but not
the new text just entered.

There was a report through Korean community forum that user defined format for
number such as '0.0#' is not saved correctly in Calc. The format works OK when
editing documents, but after saving and reopening them, the format is changed
into '0.00'.

This problem happens when saving Calc document with ods format, but does not
happen when saving the document with xls format.

RTL.

2) the big problem. The letters are rendered without the proper joining.

Hi Dara,

I can not reproduce this error. Can you give a more detailed description how to
do this? What converter do you use?
I have
1. File -> Export as PDF..
  works fine.
2. Toolbar button "Export directly to PDF"
  works fine too.
I tried it with both .xls and .ods and with checkbox "Automatic file name
extension" in export dialog checked.
The only converter I found is the document converter (File->Wizards->Document
Converter..), but this one does not convert to pdf.

Program defaults, such as font type/size, default column width, and other
formatting, cannot be changed.
If one wishes to use alternate defaults, one must change each new document to
achieve the intended behavior.
(Note that the same problem exists with the word processing module.)
Suggest that either
1) The tools/options menu contain options for program defaults
or
2) Format/styles/standard/modify should have options to apply changes to all new
documents.

An example of problems with the existing situation :
1) The default font is often ambiguous to those not used to its appearance,
leading to errors. (Many fonts do not distinguish between certain characters
very clearly.)
2) In metric environments, the default column width of 2.27 cm is somewhat
bizarre. (Note that metric is the norm in almost all countries outside the
U.S.)

I had a problem with runaway scrolling. The spreadsheet wouldn’t stop and
nothing could respond while it was scrolling. I have AutoRecovery set for every
15 minutes. The only thing I could do was use the Task Manager to shut down
OpenOffice. I saw the recovery file that is created in my folder before I
restarted OpenOffice.

I lost 7 hours of work.

I am not happy.

While highlighting a group of cells and going either right or left the speed of
the scrolling increases a lot! It doesn’t stop after releasing the mouse
buttons, pressing escape, or even if you try to click to make it reverse
directions.

I just lost 7 hours of work because the only thing to do was to close the
program using the Task Manager. Also the AutoRecovery function failed, but that
is a different issue.

It looks like when I want to save a table in .pdf format it ends up in a mess.
It doesn't matter if the original file is .ods or .xls

Yes... I can only describe what I notice!
If I work with the file, after a few days ALL the formats (not only the
alignment, also the numerical format and the column's width) disappear from ALL
the queries. I cannot find anything related with the event but it occurs every
few days.
I reformat the columns and everything but the alignment is saved... but
disappear again after a few days.
I'll make more tests on test.obd and report if I find something more precise.

I got this file from scottrade, my stock broker. It loads correctly into excel
according to my wife, but did not load into her calc from OO 2.2 under windows
xp or under my calc version 3.0 m9 under mandriva linux. The file loads with no
errors but displays as if it is only a few cells wide (it is actually about 12)
and has vertical lines (tabs?) between the data. The data is readable but has
not been correctly put into cells. I have the file, but don't seem to see
anywhere to attach it here.

Changed component: l10n

Without any dictionary modification the nearly integrated Hunspell 1.2.8 can
break the input token at hyphens like the tokenizator of OpenOffice.org (default
back compatibility), but Hunspell checks also the whole token (with hyphen, like
in "scot-free") before this tokenization. Now Hunspell has also hyphenated
multiword suggestions ("good-words-badd-words"->"good-words-bad-words"). I
believe, only task to solve this issue is to change the default tokenization at
hyphens (with or after CWS hunspell4thesaurus integration), like in the
Hungarian BreakIterator: hyphens can occur in words, also in the beginning and
end of the words.

[installation-issues] [Issue 89097] Skip MS files association

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89097

I found this reference:

http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=releases&msgNo=12418

...which explains the rationale behind removing the association dialog. However,
I disagree with the rationale that the dialog should be "removed from setup due
to users tend to check those options in setup and wonder why MSO registration is
set to OOo." If users did this without reading the dialog, I would consider it
user error that can be repaired by using the "Repair" option with MSO or the MSO
viewer tools.

It is a hindrance to remove useful functionality without providing an
alternative.

In addition, the OOo 3.0 help file still refers to the dialog box under the
topic "Installation/Changing the Association of Microsoft Office Document
Types".

I vote again to restore the OOo 2.x functionality to allow the installer to
create the file associations. The default state of the check boxes is a
different question. Presumably if a file type does not have a registered
application, the default state could be selected; otherwise, it could be
deselected.

Thanks,

Bill

Other software: Matlab's mode() behaves identically to Excel and OO. R does not
provide a builtin function to calculate the mode, though you can get the same
data from table(). I'm going to go ahead and close this issue; if you'd like to
request an enhancement, please open a separate issue, and detail exactly what
you feel should happen for multimodal inputs, and how compatibility with other
software should be maintained.

This is important, but issue 25696 (now closed - and maybe too different) was
important too.

Both functions (embedding and editing) would be nice.

Hmm.

Would it make sense to drop support for C++-style comments completely for the
moment? Then, we would support SQL and Java styles, which would be an
improvement already. I don't really like the idea of integrating a half-done
support for C++ style, the more since I think that *multiple* lines is the usual
case for this type of comment.

So, with the current patch, users would encounter a bug ("it does not work for
multiline C++ style"), where a removal of C++ style support would simply be
observed as a missing feature - which I would consider less severe.

What do you think?

side note: seems your editor is set up to use spaces for tabs (good), and a tab
width of 8 (bad - 4 is correct).

cells:
b1:c3  cells contain numbers

edit a2 and click "sum" icon -> "=SUM()"
mouse select any combination of cells and formula should change to
"=SUM(start:end)"

This works unless column A is narrow enough for the formula to spill over into
column B. In that case, it is possible to select:
- b1->c3, c3->b1 (full range)
- b1->b3, b3->b1; but not b1->b2 or b3->b2 (column)
- not b3->b2
- c2->b1, c2->b3 (successfully includes b2)
- no range where the mouse attempts to start at b2

IOW, it is not possible to mouse select a range which includes the cell to the
right of the formula if the formula column is narrower than the displayed
formula; unless cell b2 is not part of the formula itself (i.e., b2 is included
in the full range).

I don't see the ability to print report pages "label printing style", like one-
up, two-up, three-up, etc. for report pages that are smaller than a printer
page (8.5"x11", for example), so for every hard copy printer page, there would
be multiple individual report pages.

This is where the user has designed a "report page" that is smaller than the
hard copy sheet or continuious form that comes out of the printer, so when a
single sheet of hard copy or a continuous form is used, multiple report pages
are printed side by side across and down the page at the same time, each report
page containing the data from a respective data base record as designed by the
user, using free floating data field positions as is possible in the Sun Report
Builder or standard column, row format in more simple report page designs.

When writing about music, there is sometimes a need to use time signatures.
A workaround exists, but it does not look well. One can insert simple matrix
using formula editor, or can manually set numbers in subscript and superscript
and then adjust the spacing (what is usually difficult for meters like 9/16 or
12/8).
The feature shall allow user to use conventional typefaces as well as musical
ones (the middle of a digit is usually on the baseline of the musical font). It
shall be also possible to set the AutoCorrect (so that user can input a time
signature typing, let’s say, ‘!M!3/4’).
I think the simple ‘binom{12}{8}’-formula might be good start point.
When exporting to other formats, time signatures shall be converted to plain
text (for cut time and common time preferably to ¢ and C, or, respectively, to
C| and C if ¢-character not available) and tagged with different character
style.

It appears that the Sun Report Builder extension for OOo 3+ will do what I want
in terms of "Free Float" data base fields around on a report page; however,
only the option of specifying a background color is available, not setting a
background image. On the page format dialog, background tab, where one can
select a background color, there should also be an option to select a
background image instead of solid color for report pages. And, this background
image should have a "print, no print" toggle so one can either print the
background report page by report page, or NOT print the background image in the
event of pre-printed hard copy page stock that has already had the background
image pre-printed on the paper.

(see http://www.cisco.com/web/about/ac50/ac47/2.html and the file is:
http://www.cisco.com/web/about/ac50/ac47/PP_icons.zip

in impress creates a crash in impress.

also tested OOO300m8 with same behavior.

however, 2.4.0 just open it fine.

workaround: open the file with OO 2.4.0, save as ODT, open ODT in 3.0. it does
not create a crash.

I looked at gaojingmei's last patch and noticed 2 things:

- In the "Find & Replace" dialog, "Less Options" has been renamed to "Fewer
Options" (issue 84980), so we should also use "Fewer Options".

- The tab order of the list boxes is correct now, but the order of the other

I should note that this code for "private:stream" works with non-DOCX files
(e.g. Word97).

It seems when loading a DOCX file from an XInputStream, it fails to load
properly. So the following will fail:

XComponentContext xContext = Bootstrap.bootstrap();
XMultiComponentFactory xServiceManager = xContext.getServiceManager();
Object desktop =
xServiceManager.createInstanceWithContext("com.sun.star.frame.Desktop",
xContext);
XComponentLoader xComponentLoader =
(XComponentLoader)UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XComponentLoader.class, desktop);
XSimpleFileAccess xSimpleFileAccess =
(XSimpleFileAccess)UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XSimpleFileAccess.class,
xServiceManager.createInstanceWithContext("com.sun.star.ucb.SimpleFileAccess",
xContext));
XInputStream xInputStream =
xSimpleFileAccess.openFileRead("file:///c:/test.docx");
PropertyValue[] loadProps = new PropertyValue[2];
loadProps[0] = new PropertyValue();
loadProps[0].Name = "InputStream";
loadProps[0].Value = xInputStream;
loadProps[1] = new PropertyValue();
loadProps[1].Name = "FilterName";
loadProps[1].Value = "Microsoft Word 2007 XML";
XComponent xComponent = xComponentLoader.loadComponentFromURL("private:stream",
"_blank", 0, loadProps);

But the following will succeed:
XComponentContext xContext = Bootstrap.bootstrap();
XMultiComponentFactory xServiceManager = xContext.getServiceManager();
Object desktop =
xServiceManager.createInstanceWithContext("com.sun.star.frame.Desktop",
xContext);
XComponentLoader xComponentLoader =
(XComponentLoader)UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XComponentLoader.class, desktop);
XSimpleFileAccess xSimpleFileAccess =
(XSimpleFileAccess)UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XSimpleFileAccess.class,
xServiceManager.createInstanceWithContext("com.sun.star.ucb.SimpleFileAccess",
xContext));
PropertyValue[] loadProps = new PropertyValue[1];
loadProps[0] = new PropertyValue();
loadProps[0].Name = "FilterName";
loadProps[0].Value = "Microsoft Word 2007 XML";
XComponent xComponent =
xComponentLoader.loadComponentFromURL("file:///c:/test.docx", "_blank", 0,
loadProps);

Also, hardware acceleration in the Tools->Options->View tabpage is disabled by
default- I enabled it just to see what would happen on my thin client - running
Slide Show from the same presentation gave ~24MB pixmap memory used (from same
5MB
baseline when presentation is simply opened), but things are extremely choppy
when HW Accel is enabled.

In cws calcperf03:

revision 266105
sc/source/core/inc/interpre.hxx
sc/source/core/tool/interpr3.cxx

The functions MEDIAN, PERCENTILE, QUARTILE, LARGE, SMALL now use
::std::nth_element() instead of a fully sorted array.

Filling entire column C as described in the second attachment on my machine
needed around 12 minutes, which I think isn't that bad, given that Excel2007
needed 15 minutes to accomplish the task :-)

@pvrohr: The Windows task manager's performance overview is not suited to
determine actual memory consumption of a process. What you see may just be some
contiguous space of reserved memory, only partly committed memory. Freeing
allocated memory does not necessarily decrement that value. A slightly more
accurate value may be obtained by monitoring the VM Size of a process.

My environment:
+ Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS
+ OpenOffice 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1
+ LTSP Environment

Working in OpenOffice Impress/Presentation is fine until starting "Slide Show",
which caches excessive amounts of pixmap data to thin-client memory. This is bad
because thin clients generally have very little amount of RAM (64-128MB is
typical), and when all of the RAM is exhausted by something like excessive
pixmap memory usage, the session simply crashes outright, causing data loss.

Observe my pixmap usage (via 'xrestop') of ~5MB upon simply launching a 1-slide
presentation file:
---
3e0 50 84 1 160 62 5495K 5K 5501K 18330 POWER POINT - OpenOffice.org Impress
---

Now observe pixmap memory usage of ~52MB upon launching "Slide Show -> Slide
Show":
---
3e0 56 100 1 230 73 52767K 6K 52773K 18330 POWER POINT - OpenOffice.org
Impress
---

A Jump of more than 50MB by simply launching the presentation slideshow
shouldn't happen. Thank you for any help on this, the children at my schools
will thank you!

Sincerely,
Jordan/Lns

I beg to differ.

p175: blank space on the page
p176: frame cut off
p177: blank space on the page, frame cut off
p178: frame cut off

Part of the function of Writer is to provide and aesthetically pleasing
document. Your fix hasn't actually provided that. Also, this file seems to have
been altered. The original one had over-lapping frames and other errors. If the
problem is too difficult to solve, then I understand, but the workaround is a
little questionable. Just saying.

If this issue is less important for Writer, it's very important for Impress. We
often use video in presentation.

[sc-issues] [Issue 72718] Multiple Operations proble m

I'm astonoished about what is the difference of the problems.

issue 39304 doesn't directly reference the input cell by a range, but does so
indirectly: the input cell is referenced by the output cell E16 by a function
(originally "match", alternatively try "sum") by a range, which references the
input cell.

--> ok, I tried: a generally workaround is: using inderect references to the
input cell if you want to use a cell as input cell being in a range. E.g.
instead of using "=sum(a1:a2)" in the output cell, entder in a cell B1 "=sum
(a1:a2)" and reference it by the output cell "=b1". That works.

Ok, then I understand, why you say, that it's a different thing: directly
referencing the input cell as part of a range is not allowed (as in the issue
39304), indirectly causes problems (only?) when lookup functions (is
multiple.operation itself a "lookup funktion"?) are involved.

To summerize:
1. there are cases in which the multiple.operations functions works correctly.
2. you never can be sure that this is the case.

I suggest: remove this function or make it work correctly. It is absolut
inaccaptable to get wrong results without being warned or even to know in which
cases this happens. See my issue 96803 ( http://www.openoffice.org/issues/
show_bug.cgi?id=96803 ).

grr, stupid me, as it said line comments, did not think about multi-line
comments

new patch fixes this somewhat:

- works for SQL, Java, C++ line comments
- works for C++ "multi-line" comments, which span multiple lines due to the
automatic layout if the text is larger then the width
- does not work for real multiple line comments including line breaks, as the
tokenizer currently receives the text line by line, I created issue 97904 for
this

so I think it makes sense to integrate this patch in this state, as it is still
better then without it

this is definitely relevant only for the 3.0 codeline. Is there more Information

and re-set to me again. Thanks in advance.

I've got an installer here with dialogs and localized to simplified Chinese.
The header bitmap looks good in English and simplified Chinese. Have you tried
it with 2.42.1 to see if this resolves your issues? If both the mainstream NSIS
and my version has the same problem, it needs to be fixed in the trunk
(mainstream NSIS) and then ported to my Unicode branch. But like I said, we
have Chinese installers that work well without the glitch described here.
