ab->es: To test you need a German office and German Mac System settings.
Then, e.g. when traveling over the writer format tool bar (font, bold etc.),
the controls' role description should be provided in German, e.g. "Taste"
instead of "button". It's not necessary to install German voices if you
don't mind the wrong pronunciation.

>From Ubuntu bug report:

"
Problem description:
When saving a text document in MsWord 97/2000/XP file type, it seems that tab
stops positions are saved with a relative position from the left margin instead
of the before text Indent. When the file is opened, the tabs stop are set
relative to the before text Indent.
The result is that each time the document is saved, all the tab stops are moved
with an offset equals to the before text ident value. It is moved to the right
if the before text ident is positive, to the left else.
Documents saved with OpenOffice format work fine.

How to reproduce
1. Create a new text document and save it with the MsWord 97/2000/XP .doc file
type
2. Put tab stops at 4 cm and 5 cm on the first line
3. Save and close document. Reopen it. Tabs stops are at 4 and 5 cm.
4. Change before text ident to +2cm. Don't change Tabs stops.
5. Save and close document. Reopen it. Tabs stops are now at 6 and 7 cm.
6. Change before text ident to -3cm. Don't change Tabs stops.
7. Save and close document. Reopen it. Tabs stops are now at 3 and 4 cm.

remark: if after step 3., you open the document with MsWord, tab stops moved to
6 and 7 cm too.

Conclusion: this bug is often silent, just because usually before text ident
remains to its default value: 0.
"

Note this is reproducible on the official OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 also.

[sw-issues] [Issue 98256] blurred graphics

2009-01-20 Thread uwegalle
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=98256

--- Additional comments from uwega...@openoffice.org Wed Jan 21 02:36:46
+ 2009 ---
I realized that graphics are differently displayed dependent from the font size
of the operating system. I don't work with the standard font size of 96 dpi but
with 144 dpi. With this font size my screen width is filled with an A4 page
scaled to 100%. Now I switched to 96 dpi what should also be your font size.
With this font size I also do not see a difference with files created with a
Windows Vista font size of 144 dpi.

I am attaching 3 files:
1) Another odt-file created with a Windows Vista font size of 96 dpi containing
two instances of the same graphic. Now you really should see a clear difference.
2) A screenshot how it looks on my screen.
3) The original graphic as png file so that this graphic can be inserted on
your computer. On my computer the problem is visible with both font sizes.

step by step instructions:

I suppose that it is known how to open and view an odt file in Writer and a
screenshot in a graphic editor. If you even cannot see a difference in the
screenshot please enlarge the file at least to 300%. Now really everybody
should see a difference between the two graphics.

You can create this difference for yourself by using the third file. For this
file open writer and a new document. Open the "screenshot 96dpi.png" in Paint.
Copy the graphic into the clipboard. Paste it into the new Writer document with
Paste special / Bitmap. Press esc. Press Enter two times. Paste the same
graphic a second time into Writer with Paste special / Bitmap. Double click on
this graphic. Resize it a little bit by setting left to 0,02 and bottom to
0,02. Press OK. On my computer the graphic is blurred now.

Perhaps I will hear the next objection at this point. mru replied to my first
posting: "Both graphics in the attached document look blurred, because they are
resized with non-equal aspect ratio." If he really thinks that a resize "with
non-equal aspect ratio" did change the content of the graphic then this is the
bug: I left the standard setting keep scale (not sure about the correct english
term, it's the first radio button in the dialog) in both graphics. With this
setting the remaining content of a graphic must not change at all, regardless
of the settings in left, right, top and bottom! These settings must only cut a
piece of the margin on the left, right, upper and down side of a graphic
without changing the remainder of the graphic! The remainder of the graphic
must not change even in the case that only on one side a piece of the margin is
cut. Only with the second radio button the remainder of the graphic can be
stretched or compressed!

I want to ask you to confirm the functions of the two radio buttons because the
explantaion of mru is wrong. The function of the first radio buttom is to keep
the remainder of a graphic unchanged even if the graphic is cutted on one of
its margins. The function of the second radio button is to stretch or compress
the graphic inside the unchanged area. This radio button can explain a change
of the appearance of a graphic, the first radio button cannot explain such a
change! Please try the functions for yourself, despite the blurred appearance
these buttons work as I described it.

Meiying -> MRU,
I think you are right. Indeed video files can be imported with disorder code.
So, I advise that our application may not show video format files in
the "Insert" dialog if can't insert video files for sections. In this way, OOo
can works well.

Hi Michael,
Do you test under linux? This only happens under windows.

I'll upload 2 sample files for each OS. You can see, under windows, only the
banner shows.

Best regards,
Lihua

I'm afraid this issue should never have been closed. Python UNO is still broken
in 3.0.1rc2 on Intel Macs running OS X 10.5.x (and PPC Macs running OS X
10.5.x). The "system Python" on OS X 10.5 is a different version (2.5) than on
10.4 (which uses 2.3). I believe that debyld was correct in pointing out that
the Python to be used should be the system Python. This implies that you need
two different pyuno.so libraries for 10.4 and 10.5 -- you cannot use the same
one on the two different platforms.

[porting-issues] [Issue 93084] OS X build does not ship w ith Python and pyuno does not work with native python

Why is this still unconfirmed?

I just tried 3.0.1rc2 on an Intel Mac running OS X 10.5.6, and it's still
broken. To confirm, try downloading and running DocumentConverter.py from
http://www.artofsolving.com/opensource/pyodconverter, and running it.

The problem is that the pyuno.so library has been built against Python 2.3.5
(the "system Python" on OS X 10.4 "Tiger"), and won't work with Python 2.5.x
(the system Python on OS X 10.5 "Leopard").

There are a number of ways to solve this issue. Probably the most correct is to
have separate OO builds for OS X 10.4 and 10.5. The minor version number in OS
X is actually what most OS builds would consider a major version number, and
there are a number of incompatibilities between the two.

A second option would be to ship a version of Python 2.3.5 along with OO, so
that all scripts would use that, instead of the "system Python". Not a good
solution, IMO.

actually... no, it does not fail, it fails in a later step

checking for gcc... /usr/bin/ls
checking for C compiler default output file name...
configurre: C compiler cannot create executables

BUT, /usr/bin/ls was just a bad testcase anyway (but thankfully, same effect
with CC="foo" or CC="/usr/bin/foo")

hrm, we check using AC_PROG_CXX... but maybe it gets confused by the CXX set
to $with_gcc_home/bin/g++ beforehand and just assumes it's there because it
looks
like we specified it on intent and it should just take it?
OTOH, setting CC to something bogus with e.g.CC="/usr/bin/ls" .//onfigure ...
properly fails. Hmm.

When using vlookup it reports the first (not case sensitive) item. I.E. in this
list in column A a lookup of HA1 would report back the results from Ha1 (Item 3)

Ha0 Item 1
HA0 Item 2
Ha1 Item 3
HA1 Item 4

regina: 'The symbols inside Math are not taken from "Times New Roman" but from
"OpenSymbol" or "StarSymbol"'
Does this imply that 'math' equations will always look different from
simple
equations written directly as ordinary text, like 'x = 2'? Another reason to to
consider seriously my proposal to integrate Math in Writer --issue 94198. In
that proposal, special fonts like "OpenSymbol" would be used only for symbols
(such as integrals) unavailable in ordinary fonts, not for simple chars like =.
a "raised dot" is a "middle dot" (#00B7) in the charMap; very similar
to the
operator cdot, which I never used. (I can enter a "middle dot" in ordinary
text.)
'Why do you think = is italic?' Because mru wrote: 'The first equal
sign is the
non-italic style...' Also, because = in quotes looks different; since quotes can
be used to prevent italicization, I assumed that the unquoted char was italic.
Attachment 59517 shows that ;, $ and ! are italicized unless quoted.
'it is normal that different fonts look different': of course; but the
reader
of a document might wonder why different fonts were used to write the same equal
sign...

@wg: No, the crash reporter doesn't seem to start, the app fails right out to
Vista's default crash handler. Is there a setting that needs to be enabled?
The Help makes it sound like it will always invoke itself upon crashing.

I tried to run crashrep.exe manually to see what it would do, and received a
red-x dialog:

Title: crashrep.exe - Unable To Locate Component
Text: This application has failed to start because uwinapi.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I'll try a re-install to see if either issue goes away. But as I mentioned in
the report, the scan problem is mostly mitigated when run as admin, so I still
assume it's a permission-related thing.

yes, it's unfortunate that not missing g++ is not failed, but otoh, you set up a
Ubuntu buildbot:

$ apt-cache show build-essential
[..]
Depends: libc6-dev | libc-dev, g++ (>= 4:4.3.1), make, dpkg-dev (>= 1.13.5)
[...]
Description: Informational list of build-essential packages
If you do not plan to build Debian packages, you don't need this
package. Starting with dpkg (>= 1.14.18) this package is required
 for building Debian packages.
 .
This package contains an informational list of packages which are
considered essential for building Debian packages. This package also
depends on the packages on that list, to make it easy to have the
 build-essential packages installed.

That's from Debian, the same exists on Ubuntu.

Thus no one probably noticed so far (and other people just installed g++, too).

Is this really the same issue?
I created my documents with OOo 3.0.0 (not with 2.x as in issue 95907) and list
styles don't recognize paragraph indents only in recent developer snapshots - in
OOo 3.0.0 there is no problem.
It is annoying for users in productive environments when minor updates of OOo
change the behavior of styles formatting.

I can say the same as bryancole. Anti-aliasing in DEV300 m39 is beautiful. I
have found only one last issue remaining: the hard edges of rotated bitmap
images are still somewhat "pixelized". In every other aspects: glorious
progress!

Please, can someone change the status to NEW?
This issue has been accepted and has a target milestone "later" - but I hope
this "cosmetic usability issue" will not need a couple of years to be fixed.

Hi,

I just installed DEV300m35 on a Fedora 8 box and tested again the issue, and
found that it still there. Please look at issue 96194, there you will find test
files also.

Anyway I'm attaching a test file to this message. To replicate the problem
follow this steps,

1.- open a new calc sheet,
2.- write some text in cell A1 (p.e "Testing issue that hangs calc" )
3.- click on cell A4
4.- Insert a text object (From menu bar do: Insert->Object->OLE
Object->OpenOffice.org 3.0 Text->Ok)
5.- Write some text inside the newly created text object (p.e. "This is a text
object"
6.- Leave the text object clicking on text in cell A1
7.- Save the sheet (I named as "TestSheet")
8.- Close calc and/or OpenOffice.

Now, start Calc again and open the saved sheet ("TestSheet"), and whe trying to
open the text object calc hangs.

I'd also like this to be resolved, as it is the most annoying bug in writer (in
my opinion).
"jump to cursor" is done whenever the document gets redrawn (eg changing a
style will trigger a jump). I also don't know why triggers for this odd
behaviour have to be found. A jump to cursor should never happen under any
circumstances except for user input (through the keyboard)!

Finding text within a presentation that is after a hyperlink is "flaky" --
flakyness ranges from NOT being able to find text which is quite clearly there,
to finding the text but highlighting the *wrong* text.

The problem seems to be that the URL is considered to be part of the source
text. Specifically, consider the HTML fragment:

  http://example.com";>Hello! world!

Try the above in Impress, and search for "world" -- it won't be found.

Alternatively, try

  http://example.com";>Hello! Plus lots more text

Search for "Plus" and "lots" will get highlighted instead.

This also impacts Replace as well.

It's M39, M38 was the closest option on the bug entry screen. M39 hasn't been
added yet. :)

Ok, I think I am onto something. The slowness is gone when I turn off Compiz as
the desktop manager and run in 2D mode.So it must be related to interaction
between OOo and Compiz.

I cannot reproduce it. Same speed between 3.0 and m39 (tested with a 113 pages
document, clicking and dragging from top to end of the document)

Maybe there is another performance problem on your system which has nothing to
do with the new selection?

You wrote m39 but you flagged in the version fields m38. What is right?

The objects that are too dark now are created as shapes of service
com.sun.star.drawing.Shape3DPolygonObject.
If I change the direction of the normals that I set to property
UNO_NAME_3D_NORMALS_KIND within the chart then the illumination is correct
again.
But as I haven't changed anything here within chart this should be changed
behind the UNO API within draw thus other API users to not struggle over the
same issue.

Testing M39 and the new code to allow transparent highlight of text is very
slow. It seems to be about 30% slower side-by-side using 3.0 release. If you
click focus and then move down to the next line to select the whole line; there
is a very noticeable 1 second delay before it paints the UI.

Attaching screenshot of simple document that was used for testing.

Now I got the idea of keeping both Issues. Thank you for the comments.
IMHO, mba's roadmap is a good way to go - if I got it right, first the split
screen (with any reasonable number of splits and files), then tabs on top of it.
It's how I see it: split screen, both for single and multiple files is the one
enhancement to get, prior to anything else except bugs. This is what will bring
OOo ahead of competitors - other stuff is peanuts compared to split screen.

Going to the practical side: what is needed for this to move on? Programming
skills? Which languages? Logical thinking? Organization? Pls someone inform how
we can push this forward other than just endlessly discussing what's already
clear.

Many thanks.

Vista-specific? Specific to uwegalle's PC?

@uwegalle:
It would save much time if you could contribute requested additional information
(test kit with images, commented screenshots, step by step instruction) instead

No, no malevolence involved :-) Incidentally I just had a look and the file is a
JPEG, but unlike almost every other JPEG it is in CMYK color space. With
lossless compression we enter the original file, but wrogly state it would be in
RGB, which leads to the wron graphic. However simply putting the CMYK color
space into the PDF results in the graphic being correctly rendered, but more
black on brown than white on blue like on the display. Incidentally the
previewer on the mac does the same with the original JPEG, while loading it into
gimp produces the same blue and white that OOo does.

Obviously we want the same result as on the display (which is more like it
should be ?), so simply passing on the original file and writing CMYK as info
will not work.

@sj: one would need to find out if a jpeg file is CMYK encoded and in this case
we want to go the normal path instead of passing it through. This however is
more a matter of goodies than of vcl or pdfexport itself, could you please have
a look ?

I believe that that is some special "copyright-trick" by the creator.
When I open Hanse Vertrieb - West.jpg with "EditPad Lite", I find several funny
lines starting with "n~ûlÿ" and all same contents near by the beginning of the
document. After I deleted all those "same length lines" and saved again as .jpg,
the image still looked unchanged, but the lossless export problem had vanished.

AW->bryancole: Thanks for Your feedback. I just checked, there is no entry yet
for DEV300 m39 (last is m38). I'm asking a person i think could be responsible
for that. In the meantime, please ude DEV300 m38, i'll change it later.
Maybe Your task has to do with some already seen stuff, but since You never
know, please file an issue for it (to me :-). Thanks in advance!

The symbols inside Math are not taken from "Times New Roman" but from
"OpenSymbol" or "StarSymbol", but the texts inside Math are taken from the font
you set in menu format.
You can use the replacement table to look which font is used, for example
replacing "OpenSymbol" with a fancy font like "Chiller" will affect your formula
and you can see wether OpenSymbol is used in places where you cannot set the
font directly.

What is a "raised dot"? Do you mean the operator cdot?

Why do you think = is italic? As far as I know, they are not. An italic
OpenSymbol = would look very different, because OpenSymbol has no native italic,
but is slanted.

For me this is a 'worksforme' because it is normal that different fonts look
different.

I just tested the DEV300 m39 build. The rendering is awsome (great!), but bitmap
export seems to be broken. I tried to file a new issue for this, but I couldn't
see how to specify this build/dev version.

Is there any good reason for not exporting the secondary keys of the
alphabetical index marks when exporting to word ?

[tools-issues] [Issue 98248] build.pl on DEV300 still t ries to use cvs

--- Additional comments from r...@openoffice.org Tue Jan 20 16:58:16 +

Fixed on CWS rt37.
Code for checking out missing modules using cvs got completely removed. I did
not replace it with code for svn by intent. AFAICS all scenarios where a
workspace lacks a module have been caused by some bug or mistake. build.pl
should fail and point to the missing stuff instead of trying to silently repair
a broken setup.
Removing cvs checkout code made some more modules superfluous (f.e.CopyPrj.pm),
so I removed the dependency on them.
