Found that this bug also occurs in OOo-dev 3.2.0 DEV300m49 (Build:9403) running under Windows XP Pro 64-bit. Replicated the behavior (and found something related) following these steps: 1. Create a new presentation in Impress. 2. Type some text in the title and text boxes (use any configuration with either or both so you can see where the text is going). 3. Insert a picture onto the first slide using Insert-->Picture-->From File... and choose any picture you have saved. 4. Click on the Outline tab to change to Outline view 5. Position the cursor right before the title and hit enter to insert a new slide. ***The next fiew steps detail what happens further if you keep inserting slides*** 5.1. Hit enter again as many times as you like and only the text will keep moving to the next slide. The picture object will stay on the second slide. 5.2. Hit backspace and you will see the text move back up until it is again on the same slide as the picture. ***Back to steps that replicated specific behavior described*** 6. Hit backspace to delete the blank slide right before the "original" first slide. At this point the text moves back to the first slide, but the inserted picture disappears. Furthermore, if you position the cursor right after the "Slide 2" icon in Outline view at any point after step 5.1(above), then the picture will disappear then as well. I'm also a bit reluctant to rely too much on extensions for bug-fixes. At some point, you run into software management and update-compatibility issues. Another concern I have is that a user wouldn't necessarily KNOW that he'd need to take the CT2N action. All he would notice is the total of the spreadsheet, and if he is lucky he'd notice that the numbers make no sense. But I'd still be very interested to learn more about CT2N as a stopgap. As I have said time and again, "If you need Excel, use Excel". I know you have said so before, but I find this comment very strange because OpenOffice is primarily and explicitly *advertised* as a Microsoft Office replacement. You see the banner every time you install Java, for instance. If this statement really was true, then the solution actually is very simple: remove the Excel support altogether. According to your statement, it's not needed anyway, and it is broken anyway. But if you leave the Excel support in, then it absolutely *must* work. Reliably. Every time. Re. the second comment: more importantly, I answered philhibbs' question about "how users do it without realizing" I identified what to my knowledge nobody had done before: why this issue arises so frequently in the first place. You can call it a feature or a misfeature or whatever you like. What bothers me most about all this isn't actually the bug itself. What bothers me is the absolute willful unresponsiveness of the OpenOffice team to a very obvious user demand - with the seventh anniversary coming up in a few days - just based on some ivory-tower idea of "Excel is wrong". remote debugging seems to work with DEV300m49.
a lot of java extensions will fail to work cause there seems to be a problem
with the classloader, for example:
this.xFactory = javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactory.newInstance();
will fail with a NullPointerExeception, cause classloader is null.
another example: calling javax.swing.JEditorPane

but he mentioned this can be seen only as a hack ;-)
i used JRE 1.6_13 and 1.6_14 for my tests.
a bugfix should work with JRE 1.5 for MAC users too ;-)
btw: there a no problems with oo 3.1 - so i think we have a regression.

I mean this office suit has a tag "When saving with OOo, you CAN loose data, which you will not if using MS office or even a simple text editor...with the same accident" Ok...this happening might be rare, but if it does happen, to guy to which it has happened will lose lots of labourI mean that file...which contained like 100 mb of text + formula + images etc will be reduced to 0 bytes...you realise how much hate will that guy towards the office suite and the community? And this is VERY probable when the file size increases and if the system/file system speed reduces (which is again VERY probable in an net book with its processor at the lowest power state). I'm not asking you to chop your system to pieces, I'm just asking you to plug the power off...and the data's lost. I did not even do anything physical. Actually there is NO office suit except this one which actually WIPES all previous data in such a case..to be explicit, this is the MOST unreliable office suit at its current state. Cause of this very saving mechanism, making an book in openoffice is IMPOSSIBLE...the file size reaches 1 MB, saving the file frequently becomes a pain, you actually have to think before pressing ctrl+s..which you don't have to with MS office no matter what the file size is. By closing the issue, you mean to say that OOo will destroy all your data in case of a system crash/power failure...which will not damage any other file in the same partition (i.e except that openoffice document)...or there even won't be any loss of data in the other file. Its cause of Openoffice that you will loose data on the partition...nothing else is to blame. It seems to go through the spooling process, but nothing else happens. If I copy/move that page to a new spreadsheet, then it will print. Then if I add another sheet to that new spreadsheet - it also will not print. Since all my spreadsheets are multiple pages, this is a great setback - because printing them is going to be a royal pain.
