Curiously, when I looked at the original converted document, one of the illustrations was still there but it's width had been changed to zero. I'm going to check tomorrow at work to see if the graphics are actually visible when the document is opened in Microsoft Word. I'm sorry, you are correct in that illustration 3 disappeared. Thanks for catching that and letting me know. This appears to be an ooo-build issue, as the official OOo 3.1 and dev300 m49 (OOo 3.2) don't export any of the pictures correctly at all. So ooo-build partially fixed that issue but still has some bug causing illustration 3 not to appear. This surely is a nasty behaviour to anyone trying to update a .doc file using OOo. If the file contains indented and tab-aligned text, every save operation gives you a not-so-pleasant surprise. Sometimes the writer jumps upwards. In some cases it's not possible to click in a normal text row. If I click to this row, the writer jumps back. There's no problem, if I click to another row. This problem can be reproduced until the writer is closed. After a restart of the writer it's possible that the problem appears again at another location in the document. It doesn't matter which document it is. The documents are small ones. They have around 20 pages with some pictures and tables, some footnotes, footers and headers. It's the first time that I've this problem. In versions 3.1.0 I've never had this problem. Some of my friends have the same problem. OOo Calc 3.0.1 OOO300m15 (Build 9379) on Linux stayed open when I closed the only file whether the file had been either used or not, both via selecting the Close command from File and by alt-f-c, and that's how it should work. On the discussion of why it's a bug: The File menu has both Close and Exit commands. Usability, or how an application responds to how people actually use the program and therefore how it should be designed, suggests that Exit and Close should not behave identically. Exit should get rid of the whole program. Close should close only the one document but leave the program open for new work. When I reported the bug, that's how OOo Writer behaved. Calc exited when merely closing. Writer was right. Calc was wrong. Either one being a module of OOo doesn't change the usability issue. As OOo increasingly competes with Microsoft Office, it has to be transparent to people who are not technically savvy but expect to get their work done, and most users will see Calc and Writer as separate programs, regardless of the behind-the-scenes structure, because that's what the applications menu shows the users. You mention having only the menu item 'File'. In my installation, after I closed the only open file, I had 6 menus and the File menu had several available commands. Click on draw icon for Lines and Arrows and select Dimension Line 3. Draw a dimension line on the page such that the arrows point from outside into the dimensioned line (small line). Eg. in inches 0.59 4. Check the value displayed over the dimension line (for the above example it will be 0.59) 5. Check the value in the status bar (for the above example I have it show 0.98). This can also be verified by opening the Position and Size properties page. The application was quite happy with only AltSearch, Linguist, English spell checker, Lilypond and Writer2Latex installed. After installing language extensions for Spanish, Greek, Latin, Ancient Greek, German, Italian and Russian, trying to run the Extension Manager crashes the application (Word or Calc) on both platforms. I erased the user directory and ran Word, which created a user from crash, but kept crashing. I completely unistalled Openoffice and repeated the whole installation procedure with the same result. Unfortunately, it did not occur to me to install the extensions one at a time and see which one is the cuprit. In the meantime, word and the extensions work as expected provided I do not try to run the extension manager. I can also make available a Yiddish-transliteration dictionary for those who prefer to use a Romanized script.
