For me it's not a defect. As far as I know, the formatting of the cell does not
decide whether a string that seems to be a date must be interpreted as a date.

@viren297 : in which case do you encounter this problem ? When you copy/paste
from the web ?
I think you have a workaround : paste your text to a plain text document in a
text editor, copy the result and paste it in your speadsheet. Now Calc open an
import dialog which allows you to choose the date format of your data.
I tested this procedure under Ubuntu with gedit as text editor.

The offset function used to work up to 3.0.1 but in OOo 3.1.0 it returns Err:504
whenever the reference field refers to another calc document.

To replicate:
1) Create a new calc document and save it as the default name (Untitled 1.ods)
on the desktop.
2) Create a second calc document. (There is no need to save it.)
3) In the second document, select cell A1 of sheet1. Use the function wizard to
enter function OFFSET. Set the 'rows' field to 0 and the 'columns' field to 0.
With the cursor in the 'reference' field, click the first spreadsheet and a cell
(e.g. A1) within that spreadsheet. Click OK on the function wizard to enter the
formula.
The formula will be similar to:
=OFFSET(

'file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/PaulW/Desktop/Untitled%201.ods'#$Sheet1.A1;
  0;
  0
  )

Note that the formula result is Err:504 rather than the value of the cell in the
first calc document.

Same result on WinXP.

older user profile.

Showstopper for me - have reverted to older build.

The problem is not only in MATCH and VLOOKUP, but it is in normal comparison =
and operator - too, see attached file.

I personally think, that working with pure integrals OOo should be exact in
whole domain of 15 decimal digits. It is possible with IEEE double type.
Otherwise the domain for integrals has to be documented.

There has been a similar problem in issue 69798, which was closed as duplicate
of issue 69749. I think, that was a wrong decision, because there is no rounding
involved.

A textclip is a special file format for small pieces of anything on a mac
(*.textClipping). Mark any text in
any app and drag into a Folder or the desktop, than finder will make a textclip
file out of it. This
exporting works well in OOo.
Importing a textclip (drag and drop somewhere into a document) doesn't:
Writer: An insert section Dialog pops up instead of pasting the clip. If
OKed, a section gets inserted
but no content of the clip shows up.
Calc: Dropping the clip at F6 (tip of mouse pointer) imports it to in E10 (but
at least it gets imported).
Existing content and Formulas in target cell are overwritten without any
warning. This, but especially
both behaviors combined may cause severe problems for an user.
Impress Draw: New textframe with content of the clip gets created which is
acceptable. Much better
would be sensing if drop is into a text frame and then insert the text there
instead creating a new
frame.

Unfortunately, the writer import is the most likely scenario.

Expected behavior:
Perform action doing the same as Paste special… - unformatted text with
content of the clipboard
does but using the content of the textclip.
On the other hand - dropping outside writers text area should behave like Draw
does now: Create a
new text frame with the content of the clip at the location the clip was
dropped.
Using an insertion/text cursor instead of an pointer would be desirable in
Writer and also in suggested
insertion mode in Draw/Impress..

In ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file, I have the following setting to place the scrollbar on the
left side of the window, not the right side:

gtk-scrolled-window-placement = top-right

All GTK application honor this setting, except gimp, dia and openoffice. Even
firefox allows to change the scrollbar location by a hidden preference in
about:config.

To make the UI look more consistent across all applications, please provide for
a setting to place the scrollbar to the left side of the window, or simply use
the gtk-scrolled-window-placement setting to place it on the desired side.

If the meta.xml file of an odf document does not contain an object count the
document loads 2 to 6 times slower than if it does. The progress bar shows, what
looks like, the progress of loading every object separately, this is not usefull
and this very frequent updating of the progress bar may be responsable for the
slow loading of such a document.

I attached two documents object-count.odg and no-object-count.odt, the times it
took to open these two documents, on different platforms is shown in the table
below.

Machine OSOpenOffice Time Time Time
versionobject-count no-count relative

G4 1.25 Ghz Debian 5.03.0.1 0:31 2:23 4.6
G4 1.25 Ghz OS X 10.4.11 NeoOffice 3.0 0:37 1:28 2.3
AMD64 2.3 Ghz Debian 5.03.0.1 0:07 0:42 6.0
AMD64 2.3 Ghz osol0906 3.10:11 0:30 2.7

This is hardly a major issue but, as far as I can tell, object-count is not a
mandatory item in the the ODF specification, so the difference shouldn't be this
large, it is easier for developers of ODF producing applications not to include
an object count.

When the attached draw document, original.odg, containing an image with indexed
colours and several paths and text frames, is inserted into a document, via the
menu, by choosing Insert Object OLE Object... then, the pixel image is
not displayed, after saving the latter document, ole-inserted.odt, and unzipping
it, the image is present in Object 1/Pictures and it is refered to correctly
in Object 1/content.xml. If I convert the image to true colour and use that to
generate the same document then, it simply works. As far as I can tell
original.odg conforms to iso/iec 26300, the ODF 1.0 specification, and the image
is a perfectly fine PNG image, if anyone thinks otherwise, do let me know, if
anyone knows what changes to make to the xml code, to make it work, that too
would be much appreciated.

Open the attached file and notice the cells B8 and B9.
The values 998 and 999 are displayed as
1000, but treated with their correct value as you can see in the
other columns.

When OOo supports 15 decimal digits, the values should be shown as
998 and 999. Larger values should be shown in scientific
notation to indicate, that they might have rounding errors and the user cannot
trust, that they are integral numbers. (Although there are internally still
integral numbers as the calculation in the column E shows.)

Thank you Rainer. It seems that Issue 17563 asks for a keyboard shortcut, which
would serve _me_ well. However, my users are mousemaids who need to simply
middle-click to paste plain text.

Thanks.

see also: issue 62094, issue 95948

I created a document in Writer, original.odt, containing an image, a path and a
frame with a textbox, when this documents is inserted into another text document
(inserted.odt) then, the image is displayed above all other objects. The order
of creation of the objects is preserved, in contents.xml of inserted.odt, the
image comes first but it's z-index number is not 0, it has the highest number of
all.

To further explore the issue I created four more odt documents (not using
OpenOffice):

in three of the attached documents, z-index-ordered.odt, z-index-mixed.odt and
no-z-index-ordered.odt the picture is displayed above all other objects, it
should be below all others, paths and frames are rendered in the correct order.
The last attached document, no-z-index-mixed.odt, is for comparison, this is
what z-index-mixed.odt would look like if the z-index property were completely
ignored.

About the contents of the attached documents:
z-index-orderd.odt: the draw objects have a draw:z-index property, the value of
which follows the order of creation.
z-index-mixed: a copy of the above file but, the order of the draw objects, as
they appear in content.xml, was mixed up.
no-z-index-ordered: a copy of the first document with all draw:z-index
properties stripped of.
no-z-index-mixed: a copy of the second document with all draw:z-index properties
stripped of.

The first three documents should all look identical when opened in Writer and
indeed they do, but not in the way one would expect, the fourth should show a
different ordering of objects, it does not, after manually deleting the images
from all open documents the rest does look the way it was supposed to.

When you save these four documents, in Writer and under a different name, then
if you unzip these and look in the content.xml files, the order of appearence of
objects is preserved exept for the image, that is allway put first, the z-index
numbers follow the order of appearance but, the image receives the largest
number, in other words it is a mess.

These four documents were not created with OpenOffice but, as far as I can tell
they do conform to the ODF specification, iso/iec 26300 and the image is fine
too, a PNG image with indexed colours. If anyone knows of a workaround, what
changes to make to the xml code, that would be nice, it may offer me some
solice, perhaps a way off the workaroundabout.

@regina: This is not only about a wrongly defined default value for the arrow
button. The arrow head of arrows created with this arrow button cannot be
reproduced with ANY choice of the many diffent arrow heads offered in the arrow
head pull-down menu.

PS: When I look at the definition of the priorities, this bug would be a P3,
since it is Functionality which is not available, but a workaround exists;
e.g. you cannot apply formattings to your text via the toolbar, but only using
the menu. Arrows and lines are not a minor but a major feature of a presention
program (that's why there are so many buttons to create them).

Agreed. This is a defect.

At the very least, it needs to be documented that it doesn't work across sheets.
Though, in the UI, I, as a user, would expect at least a popup indicating that
the trace refers to another sheet, rather than just a mysterious visual
indication.

Functioning fully across sheets is, of course, ideal, and I admit that such a
level could be consideed an enhancement.

Does it make sense to split this Issue into two?

The behavior appears not to have substantially improved as of 3.0.1

When an odt document containing grouped draw graphics gets inserted into another
odt document, in writer, by choosing Insert from the menu and then File...
then, pixel images inside the draw:g element are not preserved, draw:frame
elements containing draw:image elements are copied correctly but, the
xlink:href property is not copied, after insertion it contains an empty string,
and the pixel image itself is not copied either, it is not copied to the zip
archive of the document into which it got inserted. As far as I can tell
original.odt conforms to the ODF 1.0 specification, iso/iec 26300, and the PNG
image is fine too, if anyone thinks otherwise, do let me know.

A similar thing happens when inserting a drawing with OLE, issue 103336.

To illustrate the matter, I attached two documents original.odt and
inserted.odt, the former got inserted into the latter. The abbreviated
contents of the content.xml files of the attached documents are shown here:

A paragraph/page of the original file:

text:p text:style-name=Standard
draw:g
draw:frame svg:x=0pt svg:y=0pt svg:width=595pt
svg:height=842pt
draw:image xlink:href=Pictures/1.png/
/draw:frame

...All other objects on this page...

/draw:g
/text:p

The same paragraph/page after insertion:

text:p text:style-name=Standard
draw:g text:anchor-type=paragraph draw:z-index=0
draw:style-name=gr1
draw:frame draw:style-name=gr2 svg:width=20.989cm
svg:height=29.705cm
svg:x=0cm svg:y=0cm
draw:image xlink:href=
text:p/
/draw:image
/draw:frame

...All other objects on this page...

/draw:g
/text:p

Note that the grouping is preserved and the order of appearance and the z-axis
ordering of objects within a draw group are preserved, when importing a
document, no draw:z-index properties will be added if none are present, objects
will be rendered in order of appearance.

There are two more attachments: z-index.odt, it is similar to original.odt but
all draw objects now have a draw:z-index property and the order of appearance of
the objects in the content.xml file was mixed up. This document was then
inserted into another odt document, z-index-inserted.odt, the order in which
objects are rendered is the same for both z-index.odt and z-index-inserted.odt.
If you unzip the latter then, in content.xml you will see that the objects
within a draw group are now sorted according to the z-index number and the
draw:z-index property has been stripped of.

Why does this z-index stuff matter?

If the issue of the lost picture gets fixed that would offer developers of ODF
producing applications a workaround for the z-axis ordering problem, issue
62094, issue 95948, issue 103338 and perhaps issue 77355, all developers would
need to do is to group the drawing objects! The same would hold true for users
of OpenOffice if (in Writer) they could select multiple drawing objects and
group them.

Why does this missing picture issue matter? You can copy and paste a drawing
from Draw to Writer or you could insert it as an OLE object.

Yes that may work, for single page documents but, not for multi page documents,
not if you wish to append a large number of (automatically generated) pages as
an appendix to a report.

Workaround

There is indeed a workaround for the problems above, hum:
Save the odt document that is to be inserted (original.odt in this case) in the
word 97/2000/xp format and insert that. This works for all versions of
OpenOffice, the earliest version I tried (with an sxw document) is 1.1.3.
However, if you thus create an odt document and insert that into another odt
document the picture is missing again.

if anyone knows of a better workaround, changes to the xml code, that would be
much appreciated.

Perhaps this issue is easier to fix than the z-axis ordering problem, good luck.

Frank.

I can reproduce the problem with OOo 3.1.0 and OOO310_m15 under Ubuntu 8.04
I do not have OOo 2.4.2 to verify if it works well on the same distribution.

Looking at the database it appears that the only report with this problem is
Warning general and in this case the column with the mistake is 'title' and
that looks very much like
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=82743
that issue was not fixed until the 3.1 release of OO.o.

In fact I tried your report in 3.1 and it misses this data - but if I do a quick
re-create on your report, based on the query 'warning general', using the 3.1
release it works as expected.

closing this issue then as 'works for me'

Make sure that your hardware acceleration is off.

Open the attached file and notice the text animation (German Lauftext) in the
text box.
Start presentation. After some delay the animation starts. But it is not placed
inside the text box, but shifted about 20cm to the right.

I have not tried a PC with another graphic card. My card is a NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti
200. I'll attach a screen shot, how it looks for me.

In OOo3.0.1 (build 9379) the display is OK, it is broken in DEV300m42 (build
9386) and still broken in OOo3.1.1m14 (build 9409) and DEV300m51 (build 9408).

I have been trying to find a solution to the network problem described above and
at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+question/74342
and seem to have drawn a blank. It appears to be either a bug on OO, or a bug
in GVFS, or somewhere in between, and none of the fixes suggested to me have
worked, and nobody seems to be able to tell me if there are any plans by either
OO or GVFS to fix this problem. Can anyone tell me? I remain amazed that OO
has not fixed what seems to me a very basic problem with OO file network access
in the Ubuntu environment(which doesn’t exist in the OO Windows environment or
with access to picture and music access from the Ubuntu environment across to
Windows).

From spreadsheet Tst, open ToolsMacrosOrganizeBasic;
The first macro offered is from MyMacros, not from TstUndef; I have to click on
'+' beside Tst.ods to display its macro library, and open this library to acces
its module for editing.
It would be better to offer immediately the Tst.ods library, because
that's
more likely what the user wants to edit.

make replace bla - blu, replace all

then nothing is bold

(bold words don't stay bold)

[unfortunately in the find-replace-dialog of calc isn't possible to define
format as in writer - seems, calc doesn't allow so much formatting...]

In similar cases (Thema - Alle) [nearly] everything gets bold. (Also other
words!)

Selecting all (ctrl+a) an then klick bold (ctrl+b) makes former bold words
normal and normal words bold. (In writer one klick makes everything bold and the
second klick makes averything normal.)

From a spreadsheet, open the macro editor; add a macro. Close the editor, then
the spreadsheet. OK.
But, if you close the spreadsheet first (which is easy), the macro is not saved
--no warning. Nasty (unless you enjoy wasting 2 hours of work).
This may be issue 73521, which is 'Fixed'.

I have a similar problem here which i could track down a bit more precisely.
Please check if you can confirm that it's the same as yours.

Environment:
- OOO 3.1 Writer
- a not too small document (my working document is 0.5MB. I tried to reproduce
with a new small document without success)
- document is located on a network drive.

Everything works fine as long as I open-edit-save-close the document. But when I
set my computer to standby while the document it's open with unsaved changes and
recover from standby the next day, sometimes images are missing. When I then
save the document again, the version on the network drive is overriden with the
one missing the images.
Workaround: always save (better save and close) the document before going to
standby.

If this is not the same issue, I'll open another bug for this.

Michael.
