The incident at hand concerns writing a form letter that will automatically calculate a financial value. The original formula from Calc is: =H19*(POWER(1+(0.05/12);((12)*(MONTHS(J19;K19;1) This formula is used to calculate compound interest of a principal amount located in H19 over a time period of months between J19 (Date1) and K19 (Date2). However, as I change the values of H19 to equal a preset user field of any number that I choose to input, but labeled "Amount," and as I change the beginning dates of J19 to Date1 and K19 to Date 2, the expression (shown below) is considered to be faulty in the Writer application. Amount*(POWER(1+(0.05/12);((12)*(MONTHS(Date1;Date2;1) This, I believe, though I may be mistaken, is due to the limited formula calculation abilities of the Writer application. Today there is the option "Edit->Compare Document" that helps to merge two versions of the same document.However it would be extremely helpful it there could be a mechanism to perform a "3-way diff and merge" of documents triggered at the command line (ie. soffice.bin -writer base.odf this.odf other.odf). This feature alone would make it very easy to integrate OOO documents with major Version Control Systems. Specially the ones like Mercurial, Bazaar, Git, SVN and CVS. This simple feature could enable the customization of VCS (and DVCS) tools to use OpenOffice to performe merging and diffing of all OOO supported files. Moreover, when a 3-way diff is used it is much easier to detect real changes (additions and deletions). OOO could even have an option to trigger the merges automatically whenever there are no conflicts (two people haven't changed the same unit of work - line, paragraph, whatever). I've been using RC most recently to create templates for things like a recipe template for a 3-ring 8.5 by 11- inch binder (X3 just implemented a usable one) from pre-existing template for a 3 x 5 card. When things don't work exactly as I intend, I can address it point-by-point until it is right. Yes, this is a bit of hybrid-ing my word processor with desk-top publishing features, but that is the level of production-control I prefer. Control that is no longer available on non-Windows systems. The numerous comments that OpenOffice products should be more than clones of the commercially-available resonates with me. I would like to think that the contributors and developers of this project would feel the same. --And WordPerfect could definately use color matching for its matched format tags. One awkward workaround appears be to paste your tables into spreadsheets (OO.o Spreadsheet) and use its comparison feature. However, you need to save out one of the sheet documents before you can run the comparison, which is annoying. So, two suggestions from a user: -If doing this "right" is somewhat difficult, can it be band-aided by comparing a checksum or hash for the entire table and doing something to indicate a mismatch [for the entire table as an object]? This would be way better than failing silently. (Presumably the hard part is not matching tables between documents by name.) Getting a "false difference" if only "metadata" (like the table name) differs would still beat getting a "false match" when it fails silently. -If the functionality in Sheet works, maybe someone wants to patch its comparison function to support comparing Sheet1, 2, 3 etc. in one spreadsheet "document". That would take a couple steps out of the workaround and make it almost-acceptable in the meantime. The Default paragraph style contains: - Options: Left - Text Direction: Use superordinate object settings 3. Change Text Direction to Right-to-left; Options is changed to Right. 6. Write a couple of words in Hebrew. The text is displayed correctly, from right to left and right-aligned. 7. Save the file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) document. 8. Close the file. 9. Open it. Now the text is displayed incorrectly: it is left-aligned. When looking at the paragraph style it shows: - Options: Left (it shoule be Right) - Text Direction: Right-to-left When looking at the file in Word 2007 on Windows XP Pro the text is displayed correctly, though. The test continue: 10. Save the file with a different name - do "save as", just change its name - do not change anything else. 11. Close the file, then open it. 12. In sw/source/core/txtnode/fntcache.cxx writer fetches the Metrics of the
physical font, and under some circumstances, e.g. in the heuristic of...

the font used is taken *directly* from the physical metrics of the underlying
font.
Now the problem is that some fonts e.g. AR PL UMing CN etc don't have
bold/italic versions so vcl is faking these properties with freetypes
emboldening feature or something else. So the physical metrics do *not* contain
the bold/italic settings, so building a font directly on the font metrics looses
this information. The outcome is that at some zoom levels bold/italic is lost.
