I would have thought 256 spread tabs would be enough, but I recently attempted 
to open the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters Statment of Vote for the 
November 2, 2010 General Election in .xls format and the open did not load all 
the data because it hit a limit of 256 spread sheet pages.

It loaded only the first 256 spread sheet tabbed pages, thus preventing my 
investigation of accountability of the General Election Voting :-)

I often use a file to show that Calc doesn't have the 8192 discontinuities limit
as in Excel (see
http://smurfonspreadsheets.wordpress.com/2007/04/30/1-million-rows/). Until OOo
3.2.1 I can use my example file, with OOo 3.3RCx Calc crashes.

As I can't join my example file, here is how to create it:

In A1 put Number;
In B1 put Even or Odd;
>From A2 to A20481 put the numbers from 1 to 20480 (use automatic fill);
>From B2 to B20481 put 1 if the facing number in column A is even, put 2 if it 
>is
odd (use copy/paste to do it);
Use Automatic filter so that you can select even or odd (2 or 1) from column 2.

This file never crashes OOo Calc before 3.3. You can use the same file in Excel
and try to select only the even or the odd numbers and do a copy/paste action.
It won't work, a weird message giving the user the impression that the problem
comes from him will appear (typical Microsoft message).

Calc 3.3 will freeze forever with this file set to use even or odd numbers only,
you need to kill the process. I tested this behaviour in Ubuntu Linux 10.04.1 64
bits and in win XP SP3 (at the office). To be honest, I also checked LibreOffice
Calc 3.3b2 in Ubuntu Linux 10.04.1 64 bits and the same behaviour occurred.

I have a use-case where this defect has caused considerable trouble. My task was
very simple. A non-technical manager developed a variable length form using MS
Word. Some of the content of the form will be modified three times a year by the
manager. There are 10 blank areas at the end of the form where the person
receiving the form will type in several paragraphs of text. In addition to the
three times a year customization, the manager customizes each instance of the
form by filling in six fields at the top of the form with information that
defines the status of a specific item that is to be reviewed by the person
filling out the remainder of the form. There are over 100 unique forms emailed
to reviewers for each meeting. The fields for the form will be defined in a
spreadsheet. 

I wrote a short Python script to do the text substitution using the UNO API. I
put substitution strings, e.g. $SchoolName and $Reviewer, where I wanted the
content to be replaced. It took about 30 minutes to write and it worked great.
It took the script about three minutes to generate all 100+ forms. Each form was
in a file with a unique name as defined by the manager. 

The top of the form looks like a typical old fashioned data gathering form that
could have been typed on a  typewriter. Each field is preceded by a text
description and the area where the field is to be filled in is a blank line on
which the text was to be written. The form will be filled out using MS Word so
the blank line that is suppose to have the custom content is just a string of
spaces written with the underline attribute turned on. In MS Word the line will
be drawn to the end of the text area on the page even if there are more spaces
than will fit in that space. 

The underlined spaces for the fields at the end of the line do not work the same
in OpenOffice Writer. If the underlined spaces would fit in the space available
then the line is drawn. If there are too many underlined spaces the underline
disappears. (Actually, there will be one space underlined following the text.) 

The trouble I encountered with this bug made it look like the form substitution
script was not working consistently. The underlined spaces following text at the
end of a line disappeared on some of the forms. The appearance depended on the
length of the substituted text. A short string would fit, but if the substituted
string was too long the trailing underlined spaces disappeared. My 30 minutes
script writing exercise turned into hours as I tried to track down the cause of
the disappearing line. 

Oddly, the trailing blank line did appear when the forms were opened by MS Word.
I could use my script, in spite of the defect in Writer, but I wasted quite a
bit of time because of a defect in how Writer handles underlined spaces that
extend past the end of the text area.

When black and white printing is enabled, arrowheads do not print. To 
reproduce, 
follow these steps:
1) Create a new empty slideshow.
2) Draw a line with an arrowhead at the end (trying to figure out what it would 
be in English, since I am using another language version).
3) File > Print > Options, Black and White, Accept.
4) Accept.
The printout does not have arrowheads.
I shall say I have had this problem for a while. I was hesitant whether to post 
it or not, but for months I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting 
this. It doesn't happen with any of the other two printing options (ie. default 
or grayscale).

Oracle may be the new obstacle, but Sun prevented anything useful to be done in
OO before that.

And no the community does not have 8.5 years. Just because a project have that
many years does not mean it get an automatic 8.5 year old community.  Plus is
much much less if we take the amount it took for part the community to give up
on Sun and do go-oo, and even more for the rest of the community to give up on
oracle and do LibreOffice.

What is relevant for this bus is your defense of corporatate inactivity.
Is relevant to know that there are other options out there, that have already
incorporated fixes long rejected by OO.
It is also relevant for this issue to know that what is left of the OO community
(mostly people that does not know of LibreOffice yet) is fed up with the way the
OO overlords ignore theirs users opinion.
It is also relevant (although much less) that fixes long rejected by Sun and now
oracle for other issues are being incorporated, but not here. A thus the
possibility of someone finally committing to do this is much closer that ever
was here. (because there won't be corporate overlords putting obstacles)

Nothing wrong with corporate overlords, they have the right to do what they want
with what they own, except being hypocrite and pretend they mean good to the
community.

slowdowns are the cost for AntiAliasing improvements. Those do not come for free
unfortunately but need more rendering time - not in OOo, but in the
system-dependent graphic systems, e.g. on WIN GDI+ which AAed is simply slower
than not-AAed. If You do not need AAed output, You may switch it off in
tools/options/view and see old speed of non-AAed versions of OOo return, but
pixeled. You cannot have the money and the choccolate :-(

For Unix/Linux OTOH there is XRender and it's ability to only render trapezoids
or triangles if AA is wanted. This means that for those systems a
triangulation/trapezoidation is needed which is in place and pretty fast 
already.

We are constantly working on this (various tasks already), but AAed graphic will
never get the speed of non-AAed with the same amount of graphic data to be
rendered. I still think for big charts a reduction of data depending on the
resolution to visualize would be an option, too.

Yes, they *were* part because *they abandoned OOo* - note, the community didn't 
abandon OOo, the 
LibreOffice forkers - *they* (of their own free will) abandoned OpenOffice.org.

people from helping others on 
the users list, from contributing code, from doing anything an open source 
community is supposed to 
do, but it's open source.  By it's very nature, it resists centralized control.

And, you still missed the major point, which was that the forkers had, what, 8 
years, to work on this 
particular fix before Oracle had anything to do with OpenOffice.org.  To blame 
Oracle for this bug not

I can't code.  I can't afford to pay someone to write the code for me.  I don't

Some test on a Mac to your information:
I'm using MacOS X 10.6 on a nearly five years old 1,83 GHz Intel Core Duo 
MacBook pro 
Openig the document and holding "scroll down"-arrow with the mouse 
OOo 3.2.1 scrolls tolerable nice (19 sec. for all full scroll of the document)
OOo 3.3.rc8 is really slower (30 sec. or all full scroll of the document)
LibreOffice 3.3.rc1 has most problems with that (35 sec. or all full scroll of 
the document)

of OO.  And that is undeniable.
Second. Sun and now Oracle have stopped a lot of fixes, who in their right mind
would devote time to this just to have it blocked? And the systematic blocking
of patches is also undeniable. Have you heard of go-oo?
And this is not FUD (no fear for users of having some other better suite, no
uncertainty in a community driven suite, there is uncertainty in this corporate
only supported suite, and doubt, well, a little reading can counter that in this

I see the same now with PowerPoint 2003 (11.8324.8329) SP3 and one test page I 
tested loads when I ungroup all graphics on it. 

Issue 115898 says "while it exports fine with OO 3.2.1", while this definitely 
happens with 3.2.1. So this issue is a similar one - and depending on the fix 
it 
might fix both issues, but it is not a duplicate.

Issue 111400 causes smoketestoo_native to sometimes fail when removing the OOo
user installation once soffice has terminated (but a spawned uno.bin happens to
not have terminated yet).

As a workaround, removing the OOo user installation should fail silently,
instead of causing dmake to fail.  This workaround should be removed again when
issue 111400 is fixed (will make a note in that issue).

The text properties are not set: for example the axis labels render without
overlap in MS Powerpoint. See attached example, where on the first plot I set
the x label axis not to overlap, so it brakes under the columns.

Also, it seems, that the endpoint coordinates of the lines are not mapped
accurately in the conversion process: in MS Powerpoint, the lines on the second
page graphs intersect, while OpenOffice renders them with gaps between them.

I've recently installed En-us Build, it has dialogs as You posted (workable 
build). Anyway, i do not know if there will not be any dialog parity in final

On DEV300_m95 based CWS sb135, unxsols4.pro, subsequenttests once crashed
somewhere in the middle of dbaccess/qa/unoapi (i.e., not during soffice.bin
termination) with the below stack.  The CWS (and thus the tested OOo
installation) was on an NFS share that got temporarily lost, so what likely
happened is that OFileAccess::getFolderContents threw one of its advertised
exceptions, which OnLogRotateThread::run fails to catch.
