I am not sure if it is caused by the language style or not, but I definitely had
experience where fonts for random lines fall back to default upon reopening of
file (after I did a select all and format font and save). My system is xpsp3
OOO310m19 build 9420.

Compared with the Word behavior, the same shortcut can invoke undo in both the
document and formula.

But since undo is possible by double-clicking into the formula. This issue is
no longer a defect but may qualify as an enhancement depending on
requirement/spec

1.No User Interface to format the text direction of paragraph. I can only find
Format - Page which does it for the entire page. Please refer to attachment
for an example.
2.Alignment (Left, Right and Centre) doesn't work properly for vertical text.

Still a problem in oo2.2

Let me reword my argument. Let's say you have entered a title in your document
with center alignment. And you add a few words to it, which changes its
length. Should the line of text stay centered or should it be set manual. I
believe the former is the correct behaviour. Similarly, changing the table
width should have no effect on its alignment.

Everytime I print I have to open my file on Windows because the Linux layout is
wrong and a 30 page document can end up 40+ pages and use up a lot of paper for
those who are unaware of the problem. The incorrect rendering means that I can
fit less information in one page.

I have double-checked the document on Windows and pdf, autocorrect works as

But the font Times New Roman under Linux makes the hypen and dash
indiscernible regardless of the level of zoom.
I have changed the summary to reflect my findings.

Is the difference in formating expected when opening the same file under Windows
and Linux?
The difference in formating has caught me by surprise when I try to print a file
created on Linux under Windows. The layout changed and the only way to preserve
the layout is by exporting to pdf and then print. I expected them to be the
same as xml file stores the meta-data.

Initial install will ask to associate filetypes. Subsequent restoration
doesn't offer this option. The user has to either
1) associate each filetype manually, which is time-consuming and require prior
knowledge
2) uninstall and re-install the program to register filetypes

Thanks for the sample.
I have no idea why it didn't work on my existing document. But after I copied
the contents to a blank new document. It works again perfectly.

Limitation to the current drawings mechanism doesn't allow overlaying drawings
across table borders. I have tried anchor to page, character, paragraph and as
character. At present only anchor to page works, but anchor to page sticks
to the page it was on and even if I use page break, it doesn't move to the next
page. The net effect is that I have to manually reposition my drawings
whenever I insert to the front.

I wonder if an canvas mechanism would have worked better here because you can
treat the drawing as an image and be able to just send it to the back without
bothering all these anchoring to something settings.

I believe this should be elevated to DEFECT status unless it is the intention
of the specification to allow setting border on one side of the cell only.

According to issue type classification, Defect is a problem with an existing
feature that is either not developed to spec or does not work as designed.
These are often referred to as bugs.

OO should save the formula in between edits so that it can be undone. But it
skips the formula when I undo.

In between edits means quiting out of formula box, do something else and the
changing the formula. The operation should be undoable. i.e. Being able to
restore the formula to what it was.

I suggest the following to improve accessibility of the selection panel of the
formula editor:

1) Change trigger from menubar View - Selection to View - Toolbar

2) Set the toolbar visible upon edit even if it is closed on last edit.
Reason being that the trigger is hard to find. And few people would remember
the syntax without the toolbar.

3) Put quotation on one of the buttons. For details refer to Issue id 64411.

Thanks for the quick feedback. If the quotation mark option is available on
the View - Selection panel, there is a chance I may find it.

I also find out from MS office that they call the panel a toolbar. So you do
View - Toolbar instead of View - Selection. That's a more meaningful
description. And they also reset the option so it is visible everytime you
click on it. That makes life easier if you accidentally close the toolbar
because you can just click out of the equation and click back it and the
toolbar will be visible again. It is not like OpenOffice where it stays
invisible after you re-open / re-edit. I mean who would remember the syntax
without the toolbar.

Currently, I can see no way of being able to use the key words in a formula
that is taken by the formula editor. And some symbols are not availabe.

Some examples of the limitations
If I want to enter Interest and tax over x. The word and is a key word and
is interpreted to be the ^ symbol. There is no way to escape out of the syntax
unless you blent normal text and formula object. I was actually forced to use
the + sign for this.

The full set of symbols don't work. For example, if I enter 8%. The sign
doesn't show up. These are things you would expected that WYSIWYG editor would
be able to do but I can't get it to work.

Another odd thing is the menu Insert - symbol under normal text edit mode
disappear under formula editing mode.

The default behaviour of the formula editor is to open up a toolbar/panel for
working with the formula. After I close the panel, I can see no way of
reopening it. May be due to poor UI design or reopening is not available.
Closing and reopening OpenOffice doesn't reopen the toolbar/panel.

There may be duplicate issues. I didn't do a search because the query page
loads too slow this time.

The function LINEST calculates parameters of the linear regression as an array
but there is no corresponding function to return the individual elements in the
array. (I have looked under the arry category of the function list.)

Under Microsoft Excel, the index function is used but not supported by
Openoffice resulting in errors when opening excel files containing index

According to help, the optimal width formating automatically adjusts column
widths to match the contents of the cells. This failed to work on a single
column table, which is often used to layout pages.

For testing,
1. creat a single column table regardless of the number of rows,
2. enter anything in cell as long as it doesn't exceed page width,
3. right click - column - optimal width (doesn't work)

Workaround is to insert a second column and delete afterwards or adjust column
width yourself.

Reopening issue because the duplicate issue was fixed but this problem still
exists in OO2.0.1, implying that this is not a duplicate.

For example,
highlight column A (or a cell in A)
set right border
highlight column B (or a cell to the right of it)
right click - format cell - broader - don't allow you to turn off border to
the left of the cell

Workaround is to go back to the first cell/column to change the border setting.

“sell” almost

similarity search for multiple words failed
1.ctrl-f to find
2.type the first line (see above) into search field
3.select more options
4.tick similarity search
5.press search but can't find it in document

similarity search for exact line failed
6.repeat the above search by copying the first line and pasting it in search
field

However, searching for a single word “sell” including quotes works. Standard
search for exact line also works.

The formating toolbar should be context sensitive by UI standard. Formating of
page style using the formating toolbar failed to follow this convention and
changes page style of the entire document instead of the current page (or
currently selected pages). This is counterintuitive for the general user since
all other formating operations are context sensitive.

Workaround is to use the Format - Page menu option to set the Next Style.

I can't apply one page style to more than a page if it is in between 2 page
styles.

For example, I can't do:
PagePage Style
1 style A
2 style B
3 style B
4 style C

Instead, I have to create style D with the same formating as style B and do:
PagePage Style
1 style A
2 style B
3 style D
4 style C

POC:
1. Insert a table into the document
2. resize it so that it is shorter than the page width
3. highlight table and set its alignment to centre
4. resize the table again
Result: OpenOffice changed the alignment to manual when it should stay at the
centre. I am only resizing the table with no intention to change its alignment.

I agree finding exact quotes is the techically correct thing to do but it may
not be as user-friendly because users may not aware that autocorrect/autoformat
replaced the quotes for them but not in the find and replace dialog. Even
with regular expression search, it is inconvenient to insert all three double-
quotes from insert-special character. With the third option, which is
selecting it prior to launching the dialog is counter-intuitive because the
search text may not be on the screen. If the user need to type in the search
text with the quotes, select it and then launch the search screen in order to
have the quotes type up properly, then it is an extra step that users need to
take to search for text with quotes. In conclusion, I agreed with an option in
the search dialog to find typographic quotes as well as .
