In OOo 3.1.1, UNCLOS.doc still takes more than 15 minutes to load and is still
not usable after loading.

There is no such option as check in all languages in OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 any
more (because the grammar checking has been introduced, by the way,
congratulations on that, great work!), so I agree with you that this issue
should be closed.

May be this issue should be closed? The new way of distributing dictionaries
through extensions makes this small issue of no significance at all, to my mind.

The attached file - a 179-pages two-column table of English and Russian text -
still takes more than 10 minutes to load, tried it on 2 February 2009 in
OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 under Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP1 (Intel Celeron
Mobile 1,6 GHz CPU, 1,5 Gb RAM).

On the same system, it takes less than 5 seconds to open this document in
Microsoft Word Viewer 2003 or Microsoft Word 2007. Some more time is required to
actually load the whole document, so that to be able to scroll through it.

Loading time doesn't seem to have changed since OpenOffice.org 2.2 under Windows
XP SP2 (Intel Pentium 3 1 GHz CPU, 1 Gb RAM).

And many pages of the text are still wrapped into a one-page table in
OpenOffice.org 3.0.1, the text can be selected even far below the lower border
of the table, but it is not visible there and is not accessible. Didn't manage
to free the text out of the table.

Also tried exporting this document to PDF. Only a one-page table was exported.

kpalagin, I always do what you described before each reinstall of OOo (I
uninstall the previous version and delete the user profile folder before
installing the new version).
I use Windows XP SP2 and the official en-US version of OOo 2.2 (I downloaded
the default one from the OOo site). The problem happened also with the official
2.1 version. I haven't tryed developer builds.
I deleted all the installed dictionaries from the corresponding folder and
tryed checking the Check in all languages option, still it doesn't remain
enabled, so dictionaries doesn't influence the problem.
Don't think it's time to close the issue, as it continues to not work at least
for me.

Tools - Options - Language settings - Writing aids - Options - Check in all
languages
This option doesn't remain enabled, if I close OOo and then start it again.
I turn this option on, edit a document and close OOo. When I start OOo again,
the option is off, as if I didn't turn it on.
In versions prior to 2.1 it remained enabled.

I attached a document in a .zip-archive. There's an MS Word document, it
contains a UN Convention on the Law of the Sea both in English and in Russian
languages. The document is designed as a 2-column table with the text in two
languages side by side.
This document opens in less than 5 seconds in MS Word. It opens in OOo Writer
2.2 and 2.1 for several minutes (about 10 minutes or even more, I didn't
measure the exact time).
It finally opened, the table loaded and showed up, but it was only on one page,
while the original text was much longer and occupied several pages. But OOo
showed only one page with a table, and the beginning of the text inside the
table.
I know that the full text was loaded in OOo, but I couldn't get it out of the
table. I managed to get such hidden text before from another document, but
don't remember how.

Hello. I've been using OpenOffice.org since version 1.1. One of the features
that appealed to me was the coloured tabs option in earlier versions of
OpenOffice.
I still can't understand, why did the developers get this feature out of the
project. Please, add it back.
Why? Maybe because it used to make OOo look more unique, fancy, interesting.
Coloured tabs in OOo really can make users happy :) Besides, they can be easily
turned off. So why not make this option back?

P.S. I've found the same issue submited here: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/
show_bug.cgi?id=63996 - but the status of the issue is not clear to me, I
couldn't figure out what did developers decide about the case.

I've downloaded hyphenation dictionaries for English US and UK from
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/
on the 4th April, 2007.

Both archives are of the same size. The files inside both archives have the
same size, but different names: one with en_GB and the other with en_US in the
name. And Readme files in both archives contain identical information. Both
Readmes say that these hyphenation files can be used for both US and UK English.

It seems to me, that these are the same files with different names. Please,
check. If so, please, make a single entry for English (UK US) hyphenation
dictionary instead of two separate (like with Thesaurus, which is used for both
US and UK English).

Tools - Options - Language settings - Writing aids - Options - German spelling
- old

I have new orthography German dictionary installed. If I enable this option,
nothing changes, Spellchecker still marks words in old orthography as incorrect
and proposes me neu orthography equivalents.

So this option is useless without an old orthography German dictionary
installed. And if I install such a dictionary, why should I use the German
spelling - old option?!

I also suspect that this option can make OOo Writer crash. It happened to me, a
crash auto-report was submitted. But still, here's the description:
my dictionary.lst
DICT en GB en_GB
DICT en US en_US
DICT de DE de_frami_neu
DICT ru RU ru_RU_ie
DICT ru RU ru_RU_yo
HYPH en GB hyph_en_GB
HYPH en US hyph_en_US
HYPH de DE hyph_de_DE
HYPH ru RU hyph_ru_RU
THES en GB th_en_US_v2
THES en US th_en_US_v2
THES de DE th_de_DE_v2
THES ru RU th_ru_RU

So I opened the .sxw file (see attachement) and checked two options:
1)Tools - Options - Language settings - Writing aids - Options - German
spelling - old
2)Tools - Options - Language settings - Writing aids - Options - Check in all
languages
After this clicked with right mouse button on one of the underlined words
(autospellcheck was on) and OOo Writer crashed.
And, as I said, a crash report was autogenerated and I submitted it.

Hello.

In Russian language many words can be spelled with both YO(ё) and YE(е)
letter. The word honey can be spelled in Russian as мёд or мед and both
variants are correct.
The rule is: letter YO can be changed to YE in any word. But not vice versa.

Please, think about coding such an enhancement to the spellchecker that will
make it treat any YO letter in a word with language set to Russian as YE for
spelling check purposes only.

Why is this important? It will allow to have only one dictionary for Russian
language with YE. At the moment there are 3 dictionaries available for Russian
language, 2 with YE and 1 with YO. They all contain the same words, just
spelled differently. So twice as much words for spellchecker to look through!!!

How this could work. We have a dictionary with all words spelled with YE, no YO
dictionary needed. If spellchecker finds a word with YE in a text, he finds a
match in the dictionary and everything is ok. If spellchecker finds the same
word with YO in a text, he then internally changes YO to YE and again finds a
match in the dictionary and everything is again ok.
