To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=64755 Issue #:|64755 Summary:|Invalid cross-references to footnotes Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0.2 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|bobkeyes --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Apr 25 09:26:16 -0700 2006 --- Cross-references to footnotes resolve correctly in text documents. However, if that text document is then used in another text file, as a linked section, or is linked to a master document, then the cross-references do not resolve correctly unless the linked section is the first linked section in the file or master document because that section is updated first. However, if the linked section appears other than in the first section then cross-references only resolve correctly to the first footnote in the section + 1 OR to the last cross-referenced footnote + 1 For instance, if I have 5 footnotes in linked section #2, and I have no previous cross-reference in that section. And I now insert a cross-reference, after footnote number 5, to the same footnote number 5, then in the text document it will appear correctly. However, in the linked section in the master document it will resolve to a cross-reference to footnote number 2 because NO previous cross-references were entered in that section (i.e. the reference = first footnote in the section +1 = 2). Thus the link is to actual footnote #2 rather than footnote #5 as it should be. However, its much more complicated and insidious than that because it appears somehow, the cross-reference information is saved with the file. If I would have, during previous editing, inserted a cross-reference to footnote #3 and then subsequently deleted the cross-reference, then the cross-reference that is resolved when I insert the cross-reference to footnote #5 then would have resolved to a cross-reference to footnote #4 in the master document even though it appears correct in the sub-document. (i.e., last cross-referenced footnote = 3 + 1 = 4) The workaround, I think (appears to work at the moment) for this is to insert a cross-reference for every footnote and then delete the ones you don't want. The problem in master documents and text documents with linked sections only appears after the first section unless the second (or subsequent) section is manually updated prior to manually updating the first section. In which case the cross-references in the section first updated will be correct and incorrect in the sections updated later (I think - still need to make sure of that). This problem has been around since at least version 1.1.3 in the Windows XP versions that I'm aware of and I've been trying since then to come up with a workaround that doesn't corrupt the cross-references in master documents. There are numerous other issues that have addressed this issue previously as well as in discussions about it in the forums. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. That was just the simplest way to explain how to re-create the issue. However, deleting 6 or 7 lines out of the text on page 4 which is not in a table will also cause writer to hang. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In fact if I open the file and wait a minute it will hang. If I open it and then immediately do an update all then it won't hang but as soon as I try to edit anything it will hang again. As yet I haven't figured out how to recover the file. I tried to copy it into another file but that has the same problem. I tried to insert the file into a new document (a process that usually works to recover from this problem) but the new document also hangs. The document is 53 pages w/ lots of tables, footnotes, and cross-references. I just downloaded and installed OO version 2.0.2 for Windows XP and the problem still persists. I would be willing to send the file but I don't want it posted because it contains some genealogy research I'm doing as well as personal information. But if the file might help in the debugging then I would send it directly to the appropriate investigator. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In the attached writer document deleting the yellow highlighted text on the first page causes the document page count to change and writer hangs during repagination. It is probable that this issue is the same or related to issue 54640. I've had this same problem at least 10-15 times previously with other documents but always with documents of this type involving tables and footnotes. I suspect it has something to do with a layout loop caused by the footnotes as I've never experienced the problem with tables only. And of course it results in the loss of any work done prior to writer hanging. The attached file is what remains of a 53 page document which I stripped out all index references, bookmarks, hyperlinks, footnotes, cross references, and unnecessary text and the problem persists as long as I did not change the existing layout of the remaining part of this document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54640 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 8 02:35:43 -0800 2005 --- I too have this same problem where it hangs if allowed to use background pagination. Only I was having the problem with a master document upon loading with update all links. It doesn't really do an update all links as the document loads and then continues with repagination much the same as a non- master document. This eventually hangs. It wasn't until I saw this issue that I tried to load, respond no to update links and then when the file opens do an update all links and then it will completely load then entire document successfully. Unfortunately I can't use master document because of another issue where master documents don't handle cross-references properly. So I converted to using a single large odt file and inserted the sub-documents one at a time manually. This works ok if an update all links is performed after each file insertion. However, I made the mistake of trying to edit this large 385 page document and caused a new page to be added which sent the document into background repagination from which it hung. Also, I've noticed this background pagination, if it does work without hanging, does not produce the same output as an update all produces. What happens with background repagination is that the page count is not stable and toggles between 381-385 like it can't figure out what it wants to do for sure. This does not happen with an update all which produces a stable page count. This pagination problem appears to be related to issue 58348 which seems to be referring to this same unstable page count. But I'm not certain if these are the same problem or not or perhaps two parts of the same problem. At any rate it makes it darn near impossible to create large documents with writer although master documents seem to work much better for this purpose if cross-references are not needed since the editing can be done in the smaller sub-documents and then just do one update all in the master document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 59065] Outline Numbering removes numbering from custom styles
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59065 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 8 03:15:04 -0800 2005 --- I just realized that the reverse this problem is true. Open a new writer document and set up outline numbering to Heading 1, Heading 2, etc with each level to numbering 1,2,3... Then load styles from a template that contains custom paragraph styles with numbering. What happens is that the outline numbering that was previously set to paragraph style Heading 1, Heading 2, etc is now modified by the load styles procedure and all outline levels have been changed to paragraph style none. So perhaps this behavior is by design but it seems rather odd to me and I don't understand what purpose it serves. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Even if no change is made to the outline numbering, just exiting by using OK rather than cancel will produce the problem. As I recall this happened in OO 1.1.4 also but I didn't realize what was causing it before this. Perhaps this is by design although if that is the case the rationale escapes me. This issue was also reported earlier as issue number 53624 and closed due to no response from the submitter. To create the issure: 1) Create any custom paragraph style 2) Add a numbering style to the custom paragraph style. It does not have to be a custom numbering style as I was using Numbering 1 in one of my styles. 3) Create a paragraph in the document using the custom paragraph style. 3) Select Tools-Outline Numbering-OK 4) Open the custom paragraph style and the numbering style is no longer there and has reverted to none. The style template I used sets up outline numbering and an odt or master created using it then has outline numbering turned on. However, if the styles are loaded after the master or an odt is created then the outline numbering is not set up yet. So if outline numbering is on then the multcolumn index hangs. If outline numbering is setup after the multi-column index is created then it will work just fine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 11174] Incorrect Crossreferences to illustrations in master documents
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=11174 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 4 01:06:24 -0800 2005 --- I'm having problems which seem to be related to this issue where cross- references to footnotes or endnotes are not resolved correctly when the subdocuments are linked in a master document. I've tried this with setting the link properties for footnotes in subdocuments to reset to 1 for each chapter and without resetting to 1 and they still come out wrong either way. What's more some are correct and some are not. The only work-around, which is not really an option, is to disable write protection in the link file properties and edit the cross-references in the master document manually. Of course this mean the master document can not be updated again and since I have a couple of hundred cross-references spread out over almost 400 pages this is not a workable solution. This exact same problem exists in non-master documents with linked sections containing the sub-documents. I'm attaching 4 file which show this problem: 1 master document, 2 subdocuments containing footnotes and cross-references, and 1 non-master document with linked sections containing the same two subdocuments. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
