This is a general issue and the same thing happens with OOorg 3 and Linux and it
is a major regression from OOorg 2.x. Our users can no longer write shared files
on our filesystem that can be written by other applications including OOorg 2.x.
The bug #31890 describes a similar problem.

BTW there is no patch in Bug #3406 as the former poster indicated.

I think this is the same problem as in Bug #96918 and this is a major issue.

ODF supports an element dc:language in meta.xml. OOorg does not write such an
element. It would be useful to find out the (primary) language of a document.
The bug is probably not specific to writer only.

Note: the component and subcomponent of my report might not be correct but I did
not find a better one. My report is not valid only for writer but for all
components. The version is 2.3.1.

Problem:

The scripts ooffice and soffice always forks into a background process.

Request:

There should be a way to start OOorg in the foreground.

Rationale:

KDE provides a useful tool 'kioexec' which does work only with programs that do
not go into background when started. There are probably more use cases for my
request.

Sorry some corrections:

I have two files: one (bad.odt) that contains the unicode character 'superscript
zero' / U+2070 + some umlauts and another one (good.odt) with 'superscript zero'
removed. Opening bad.odt in a fresh instance of OOorg breaks the display of the
umlauts but not of other latin characters or digits. If I open good.odt first
in fresh instance of OOorg and bad.odt while good.odt is still open - everything
will be okay.

The problem can be reproduced in OOorg 2.2.1 and 2.3.0 but not in 2.0.x.

Cheers,
Torsten
