[graphics-issues] [Issue 26862] occasional text flow wrapp ing in a slide

I have to work around images and graphs constantly in my slides because I reserve the upper right corner for a video clip that I will later overlay using Adobe's Premiere (see the creative-commons licensed free courses in software testing at www.testingeducation.org/BBST for examples of the videos and of hundreds of slides that would have been more easily managed with this feature.) However, I don't think it is available in PowerPoint either. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I get the same final printout from PowerPoint. That is, when I select (printer is adobe pdf) 6 Pages Per Sheet in layout and then 6 slides per handout page, I get a printout in which each page shows 36 slides. PowerPoint's print preview incorrectly shows 6 slides per page in this case, whereas Impress correctly shows 36, but the printouts from both programs are equivalent. Configuration: OOo m77 running on Windows 7 1. Create an 8-slide presentation 2. File | Print : Slides -- > see KanerImage1. We see 1 slide per page. Slides per page is grayed out because you can't change slides per page on this dialog. 3. You change the number of slides per page on the Page Layout dialog. Hit the Page Layout tab, change pages per sheet to 6. It shows 6 slides per page. See KanerImage2 4. Now go back to the General tab and you'll see 6 slides per page. See KanerImage3 5. Now let's switch to Handouts. Oops! we see a preview that shows two pages of handout and each page has 6 pages. See KanerImage4 6. But that's what we asked for. We asked for 6 slides per handout page on the General tab, and we asked for 6 slides per slide page on the Page Layout slide. So we get 6 x 6 slides on the handout page. Don't like that? Go back to Page layout and cut back to 1 slide per page (KanerImage5, then KanerImage6) 7. And if we want more slides per page on the handout, we can go back to General and switch from 6 slides per handout page to 9 and now (KanerImage7) we see 9 slides. As far as I can tell, this is working exactly as I would expect. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. My text is "28" (at 28 points), "24" at 24 points, "20" at 20 points, and "16" at 16 points. (2) Select all of the lines. Press the Increase Font button and the text sizes increase. 28 becomes 32 points, 24 becomes 26, 20 becomes 22, and 16 becomes 18. These map to the next higher font size in the dropdown list of font sizes. (3) Select all of the lines, click the Decrease Font button and the text returns to the original sizes (28, 24, 20, 16) and click again to get 26, 22, 18, and 15 points respectively. These again are the font sizes in the dropdown list This looks like exactly the behavior that I would expect and is entirely consistent with my experiences with other programs. [graphics-issues] [Issue 103842] In the version 3.1 with I mpress,a slide is not the same at design time than at presentation time
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103842 --- Additional comments from cemka...@openoffice.org Fri Sep 11 05:29:01 + 2009 --- I think I have replicated this, but I don't think that what I see is a bug, or if we call it a bug, not a bug that is within the reasonable control of the OOo team. Configuration: Dell Precision M6300 1920x1200 display, Windows XP, OOo-dev 3.2.0 DEV300m55, antialiasing turned off (1) download file prueba.odp from the attachments above (2) Set zoom to variable so the slide is scaled to fit within the window (3) Scale the window (make it small, see small.jpg, make it bigger, see medium.jpg, make it bigger, see large.jpg) (4) The slide should show vertical and horizontal lines that are styled as two relatively lightweight parallel lines. Instead, at different scalings, some of the horizontals or verticals are displayed as one thick black line rather than two thinner parallel lines separated by whitespace. This looks like the same distortion identified in attachment: Tue Sep 1 09:50:00 + 2009: presentation_mode_1280x800.jpg I see this kind of distortion when resizing windows in other applications. The display algorithm has a rounding error (I assume) and fills in the space between the lines. Given that I see this in other applications (Adobe Premiere for example), I assume this is a minor bug in a library routine used by OOo and many other applications, or perhaps in libraries provided with Windows. The usual workaround is to display the window at a resolution that is an even multiple of the resolution at which the slide was created, so that we aren't attempting to draw, for example, a 3-pixel wide area into a 2-pixel or 5-pixel area. Drawing those half-pixels is a nuisance. Similarly, the height should probably be multiplied by the same amount as the width. Maybe my intuition about cause is incorrect but the workaround does appear to work for these slides on my machine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 104537] Text Formatting Toolbar b ug
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104537 --- Additional comments from cemka...@openoffice.org Thu Sep 10 17:11:50 + 2009 --- Initially, I thought that swe5411's response reflected a failure to understand the original report because it seemed to miss the initial statement, "I've read the other similar issues where some of the toolbars apparently don't like to "share" a line, and this is different." However, after doing some more testing, I am not sure. My results are a little different from swe5411's, which is annoyingly consistent with the intermittency issue pointed out by scottholbrook I am working from OOo-deve 3.2.0 DEV 300m55 (Build:9418). (I know that m56 is out but haven't upgraded yet. I can retest on this if you think that is desirable.) (1) Open OOo to impress (2) In the presentation wizard, create an Empty Presentation (3) In my system, this comes up with a blank layout (blank slide), with a floating Line and Filling toolbar showing. The following toolbars are checked, when I pull down View|Toolbars -- Drawing, Line & Filling, Presentation, and Standard. I can see these on my screen. I have lost track of whether these are the OOo defaults or results of persistent option settings, but anyway, this is where I start. (4) On the layouts sidebar, click the icon of the Title Slide. None of the toolbars change. But the slide now has a couple of text windows. I click within the top box, "Clikc to add title" and the text formatting toolbar appears as a second row of icons in the top of my OOo window. (5) Type "this is a title" and click outside of the slide. The text appears, the text formatting toolbar vanishes. So far, this is coming-and-going of the toolbar but I do not think this is incorrect behavior. If I click in the textbox, the toolbar comes back. I click out of it, the toolbar goes away. (6) Now it gets confusing. I click on the blank slide layout. There is still a text box, with the text "This is a title". I click in the box, but the text formatting toolbar doesn't come back even though I am editing text. I look in View|Toolbars and the formatting text toolbar is not checked. (7) I click back to the Title Slide layout. No text formatting toolbar. Click inside "This is a title" and the formatting text toolbar appears. (8) Click on the Title, Text layout and the text formatting toolbar goes away. Click inside the "This is a title" textbox and the formatting text toolbar DOES NOT reappear. View|Toolbars does not show a checkmark beside the text formatting toolbar. (9) Click back to the Title Slide layout. Every other time I click in the This is a title textbox at the top of the slide, the Formatting text toolbar has appeared, but THIS TIME, no toolbar. View | Toolbars shows no checkmark. (10) Click on text formatting in the View | Toolbars list to bring up the text formatting toolbar. It appears in the right place at the top of the window. (11) Click outside of the slide (in the gray area surrounding the slide). In the past, clicking here has caused the text formatting toolbar to vanish. This time, the toolbar remains visible. This is expected behavior, because I explicitly said that I want this toolbar on the screen. (12) click the Title, Text layout and the text formatting toolbar stays on the screen (hmmm, I am doing these steps as I write this report. The last time, the toolbar went away, this time it didn't. Dratted intermittent bugs...) (13) Click on the Blank Slide layout. The TEXT FORMATTING TOOLBAR GOES AWAY. View | Toolbars shows no checkmark besides Text Formatting. (14) Click on the Title Slide layout and the toolbar does not come back. (15) Click in the "This is a title" text in the upper textbox, select some text, and the toolbar does not reappear. The symptoms described by scottholbrook and by SWE5411 were slightly different. swe5411 noted that Text Formatting is checked in the toolbar list even though the toolbar is not showing on the screen. I have never seen that. Scottholbrook does not report this but reports that sometimes when the toolbar goes away, it will not come back until restart. I have not seen that, yet, either. But despite these inconsistencies, I think each of us is reporting toolbar-related behavior that is unexpected and inconsistent with the context (e.g. sometimes you get a toolbar when you select the same text on the same slide with the same layout and sometimes you don't). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 103348] Format Default on selecti on should not reset paragraph properties
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103348 --- Additional comments from cemka...@openoffice.org Wed Sep 9 09:20:24 + 2009 --- This behavior is easily reproduced. (1) Create a new presentation. I create the simplest case, an empty presentation (from the presentation wizard, see the blank preview and click Create) (2) Select the Title Slide as the layout. Text in the main text area should be centered. (3) Type "This is the title slide" and then apply a paragraph level format (left justify it) and a text level format (make "title" bold. (4) Within the boldfaced word "title" select only the interior characters, "itl" (5) Click Format | Default Formatting. Result: (a) the "itl" gets unboldfaced and the surrounding t and e in "title" stay boldfaced. This is what we would expect from the online help ("Default Formatting -- Removes direct formatting and formatting by character styles from the selection.") Result (b) In addition, the paragraph, "This is the title slide" reverts back to centered from left-justified, the default layout for the title slide. So Format | Default sets both the paragraph settings back to default and the individual character settings back to default. The report expresses surprise that the paragraph settings have been reset. Now go to Writer, create a new blank document. The first line is by default left-justified. Type "This is a title." Center it. Boldface "title" and then select "itl". Click on Format | Default Formatting. The "itl" is unboldfaced but the title stays centered. Thus, character-level formatting is eliminated but paragraph-level formatting is not changed back to the default This is a clear inconsistency between Writer and Impress. This does not strike me as a very serious bug, but I think that either Writer or Impress is working incorrectly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When I insert the column, that column is selected and it shows on the screen as selected. Because every row in the column is selected, in that column, when you insert row, you insert a set of rows equal to the size of the table. This seems completely consistent with my expectations and with the display on the screen. PowerPoint 2007 operates slightly differently and perhaps it is a better model. When you insert a row or column, that newly inserted row/column shows as selected. If you click inside the selected area, the insertion works the same as OOo. However, if you click outside the selected area, the area is deselected and a single row/column is inserted instead. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 93927] Make the zoom in and zoom out functionality the same
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93927 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Oct 5 07:57:14 + 2008 --- I think this is a mixed report, involving both an error and a usability issue. In terms of the error, according to the help that I see in version m7, "Zoom In Displays the slide at two times its current size. You can also select the Zoom In tool and drag a rectangular frame around the area you want to enlarge." I create a new presentation, type some text, then zoom out. The slide-as-displayed shrinks to half its size. Zoom out twice more and the displayed slide is tiny. Now, I try to zoom out. If the help is correct, the displayed slide should grow larger. However, it does not. That is, I click on the down-arrow beside the magnifying glass, this brings up a box with several magnifying glasses. I click on the oe with the plus sign (zoom in) and there is no obvious effect. The actual effect is that the cursor has changed shape to a magnifying glass, allowing me to select an area and then zoom to expand that area. This implements the second specified way that zoom works, but not the first way, which (as described) is the inverse of zoom out. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 93511] the Slide toolbar forces f ocus on the current slide thumb

I created 6 slides so that in the window with thumbnails of the slides, there were more slides than you could see at one time, thus yielding a "slides" scrollbar. I could scroll up and down, but of course, the slide that I had selected (in my case, slide 5) stayed selected until I selected something else. I don't know what the toolbar view is, nothing jumps on my screen, and when slide 5 is selected but off the bottom of the slides thumbnails, it stays off the bottom until I intentionally scroll the window to bring it into view. - Cem Kaner - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I downloaded bug-2.odp and opened it immediately. The copy I viewed in OOo was in my temp directory and was read only. I could not change font size or resize the text box. I then Save-As'd the file, to foo.odp. The slide in foo.odp was the same, but this file is not read-only and I was able to select the text box, resize it, drag the "greeny guy" at the bottom down and up and still edit the content, placement and size of the text box. I then exit OOo, come back in, File | Open | select foo.odp from the desktop (where I saved it), but open it as read only. Again, I can select the text box but cannot move it, resize it, or edit it. I am not sure whether the read-only behavior is as designed, but I just replicated it with a much simpler slide (a couple of lines of text that were well within slide borders). Suppose this is normal behavior. The question that I have is whether the non-movability of the text box, reported here, might actually be an artifact of noneditability of read-only files. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Create a new presentation 2. Go to the Notes tab 3. Start typing. The text is hanging-indented 4. Make a bullet, type, the text is hanging indented, then either delete the bullet by backspacing to erase it, or delete it by turning off bullets for that paragraph, and the bullet goes but the text is hanging indented. 5. Try the same in the slide itself and the text hanging-indents with the bullet and de-indents when you remove the bullet. 6. Similarly in writer, click on the bullets icon to create a bulleted paragraph, type and see that it is hanging-indented. Then click on the icon to remove the bullet and the paragraph de-indents. The bug in the old version appears not to reflect the default presentation of the bullet but instead reflects an inconsistent way of linking hanging indents with bullets. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 85451] image scaling not uniform even when Keep Ratio set

Here's what I see in OOo 3.04 beta. 1. I create a new presentation 2. I add a graphic to the page (a jpg picture) 3. select the picture 4. Select Format | Position and Size to get the Position and Size dialog 5. Click "Keep ratio" 6. My particular width and height are 4.84 W and 4.61 H. If I change values **in this dialog**, the ratio is preserved. For example, if I change 4.84 to 5.84, the height automatically changes to 5.56. Therefore, this feature works (so far). If I try to manipulate the image directly by grabbing a handle on the image and dragging it, I can resize the picture any way I want, creating distortion. The ratio is not preserved. Is this the "bug"? I then do the same thing in PowerPoint 2007. 1. New presentation, copy the picture from OOo and paste into powerpoint page 2. with the picture selected, click Format, click size to bring up the Size and Position menu, and height and width are at 100%, click lock aspect ratio if not already checked. 3. change Height and width changes (in the height / width boxes on this dialog). Similarly, change the scaled height (100% to 110%) and scaled width changes too. 4. close the dialog, drag the middle handle to the right to stretch the picture lengthwise, bring up the dialog and even though lock aspect ratio is still stretched, my height is now 100% and my width is 126%. So OOo 3.04 behaves essentially the same way as Powerpoint 2007. If the goal is compatibility of the two products, then this behavior is a feature, not a bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. So, if I like my idiosyncratic speelings, I can add them to my directionary and autocomplete them. I don't think this is an argument against revising (in my view, fixing) this feature. I would accept performance as an argument against spellchecking words before putting them in an autocomplete list, if there actually was a noticeable performance hit (I'm on a faster-than-average machine and might not notice a performance hit), but otherwise I agree with mkenczler's comment that this is a serious issue because it fundamentally reduces the value of the feature. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
