Jones McClure Publishing P.O. Box 868 Houston, Texas 77001-0868 (3) select the address and copy with ctrl-c (4) Menu - Insert - Envelope [Envelope tab] - paste address in the 'Addressee' field [Format tab] - Size - Format - #10 Envelope [Printer tab] - (x) Print from top and choose the 5th 'Envelope orientation' at the top of the tab (the HP Laserjet 4100n prints envelopes from the center of the manual paper tray 'tray 1 - movable guides'). 'Printer Setup' - Paper - Paper size: 'Commercial 10'; Orientation - Landscape Then choose 'New Doc.' AARGH!!! This time it worked correctly! I hate it when that happens. Looks like the problem was caused by some config issue in the move from ooo 3.2.1 to 3.3.0 which has now corrected itself. Frustrating... Oh, well, it's working now. Let's leave this issue open for the next 7 days in case it happens again. I'll come back and close the bug next week if all is well. [sw-issues] [Issue 115278] Word Completion - needs Ignore ALL CAPS option (legal documents)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=115278 Issue #|115278 Summary|Word Completion - needs Ignore ALL CAPS option (lega |l documents) Component|Word processor Version|current Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P3 Subcomponent|editing Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by|drankinatty --- Additional comments from drankina...@openoffice.org Wed Oct 27 18:45:14 + 2010 --- Guys, Word completion is very useful, but it is horribly annoying for lawyers and staff because there is no option to Ignore words in ALL CAPS. Traditionally all legal pleadings and other documents will have the 'Style' (top of document with cause number, parties, court information and pleading title) done in all caps. Of course all of this information will be used many times again below in normal case. Word completion is horribly flawed in this situation because it has no option to ignore the first occurrence of the words in all caps that make up the 'style' of the document which causes oo-writer to suggest the words in all caps the next 30 times they are used in the body of the document. Practically rendering Word Completion useless in this situation. Currently, the only way to 'fix' word completion is to go manually delete each instance of the collected words that are in ALL CAPS from the word completion list. This is unworkable, and both staff and attorneys usually just end up retyping all the words again in proper case -- when word completion keeps proposing the word in ALL CAPS over and over again. Simply adding an option to Word Completion to Ignore words in ALL CAPS would solve this issue completely and make oo-writer much more usable in the legal setting. The code in oo already exists in the spell checker to ignore words in all caps. This logic just needs to be added to the Word Completion feature as well and a check-box added to the Word Completion dialog to Ignore words in ALL CAPS. Please consider incorporating this as soon as practicable. It would really help acceptance of oo-writer in many areas, but especially in the legal field. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Word completion needs the option of Ignore words in ALL CAPS which would greatly increase its usability. Since Ignore ALL CAPS already exists in spell check, how difficult would it be to implement here? I also note that this bug/feature request has been pending for 7 years with a milestone of 3.x. We are now 7 years down the road at version 3.2. Any estimate on when this might be added? Thanks. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The reason is there is no snap-to-grid or any kind of snap to major or minor tick marks in the rule. There is no constraint at all on horizontal positioning which leave the user trying to position tabs on a pixel basis which results in tabs placement being visibly misaligned and difficult to fix. For instance, if I position a tab at say, the 1/2 inch mark on one paragraph, since there is no snap that causes the tab to position at exactly .5 inch, the tab may very well end up positioned anywhere between .47 inch to .53 inch. A few paragraphs down, the same thing occurs and the tab placement is again guess work any where between .47-.53 because nothing helps the tab get set at exactly 1/2 inch. In all other word processors the ruler has a snap feature that helps users place the tab by constraining tab placement to say 1/16 inch intervals or some major-minor grid pattern in the ruler. If the user needs or wants unconstrained placement, then holding the shift or alt key usually disables the snap-to-grid alignment. This would be the most apparent fix for oo-writer in a long time. The crash happens every time you close OO. Similar backtraces are created each time. From the novell bug it appears most easily reproducible with x86-64 architecture on openSuSE 10.3. If this isn't a Sun isssue, you can go ahead and close this bug. You may want to check with the openSuSE devs to make sure they have a good handle on it though. You might just be holding the solution in your hand. If we don't fully understand where the crash is coming from yet, you might want to leave it open just to confirm it doesn't rear its ugly head later. You make the call.
