just to be sure here, the problem is not that I have to enter my password twice

The problem is that documents opened through ssh can't be printed.

I only open the document from the ssh server.
I do this by selecting it from Nautilus on Ubuntu.
You are right, I should have been more specific.

Running OOo on Ubuntu 6.06LTS:
1. From the Ubuntu Places menu, select Connect to Server and create an SSH
connection to your SSH server
2. Open the new 'place' from the Ubuntu Desktop, enter your ssh server password
when prompted, and navigate to an .odt document
3. Open the document by double clicking it
4. OOo prompts for password (why? I have already logged in)
5. OOo opens the document in read-only mode (why? the ssh logged on user has rw
rights on the document)
6. Press the Print button from the standard toolbar and click OK to print it

Result: the print dialog is closed (as should be) but nothing gets printed.

regards, Bart.

Hi,

I'm running version 2.0.2-2ubuntu12.1 (on Ubuntu of course).

I'm opening a writer document from an ssh server listening on port 8022. OOo
then prompts me for a password (why? I already logged in to the ssh server) and
then opens it read-only (again, why?).

I press the print button and the print dialog opens.
I select my printer and press OK.
Then I am returned to the document but no printing dialog appears, as it usually
does. Also, the job does not appear in the printer queue, nor does it come out
of the printer.

regards, Bart.

I will upload a sample.
The trick is that you should not paste in position 1 but after it.
So, in the sample, copy kort to the past buffer, select the text is een hele
lange titel waar een probleem mee is and click the past button.

Problem is that when I paste a small amount of text onto a large amount of text
in a heading, the text that should be replaced still shows.
When scrolling it off of the screen and then back, it's ok.
Found on WinXP and on Linux.

A bit difficult to explain so I also uploaded an avi to demonstrate.
The avi was created with snagit but somehow won't show in vlc so I'm not sure
it's a very good avi. It works on my windows media player though.

See the attached test.doc.
It is created in MSWord, not sure which version.
It opens fine in my Word2000.
When opening it in OOo on WinXP, nothing happens.
When opening it in OOo on Linux (Debian and redhat), the OpenOffice Document
Recovery dialog is displayed isntantly.
I checked with Word documents from the same source that I could open without a
problem in previous versions of OOo. Some of these now also do not open.

[sc-issues] [Issue 59220] OOo Save As Excel97/2000/ XP - open in Excel gives wrong content

The “not enough memory” message seems to only appear on Excel2000.
It looks like this is an Excel2000 bug, solved in ExcelXP.

I think the problem for this issue is that the active cell differs between OOo
and Excel when pressing Ctrl+End.

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 18 15:23:54 -0800
2005 ---
I tested a bit more and it looks as if Excel2000 thinks the sheet is much bigger
than OOo thinks it is.

I isolated the problem to one sheet in the document, which I will upload.

When I open the .ods file in OOo Calc and press the Ctrl-End key combination in
sheet Wk40, the active cell becomes O49.

When I save the OOo Calc document in Excel97/2000/XP format and open that file
in Excel2000 and press the Ctrl-End key combination in wheet Wk50, the active
cell becomes IV31993.

So the problem seems to be that OOo writes in the .xls file that there is
something in cell IV31993. If, in OOo, I delete all columns after column O and
all rows after row 49 and save that as an Excel97/2000/XP file, pressing
Ctrl-End in Excel2000 maken cell O49 the active cell.

I think this explains the large file size and the Excel error message saying
that it's out of memory. Appearently Excel has a problem loading 60 sheets
containing so many columns and rows.
The xls file size *without* the columns and rows removed is 673 KB.
The xls file size *with* the columns and rows removed is 37,5 KB.

cheers Bart.

eombah - Hwoarang

My machine's got 1GB of RAM.
To test, when I open the document in Excel, the initial mem usage is 434MB.
While Excel is loading it it goes to 472MB and then the Not enough memory
message is displayed. So this would have nothing to do with a real lack of RAM
I'd think.
Could it be related to WinXP and/or Office2000?
Can anyone else confirm the problem?

Bart

I have an OOo spreadsheet, filesize 204kb.

I save it as MS Excel 97/2000/XP. The file size is 26.656kb.
I open it in Excel2000 and get the error message: not enough memory.

When I save as MS Excel 95, I can open the .xls file in Excel 2000 without a
problem. The file size is 1.741kb.

The sample document is confidential, I can e-mail it upon request.

See attached OOo spreadsheet document.
In OOo on Windows you see the numbers appear through the transparent vertical

I created test.odt with date and time fields (not fixed) in the footer:

12-10-05 00:55:16

I then saved it as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc).
When I open the saved .doc file in OOo, the footnote shows:

When I save one sheet in a workbook that has multiple sheets, as a csv file, I
get an error message warning me that only the active sheet was saved. The text
indicates it's a warning whereas the icon and the sound indicate it's an error.
That's inconsistent.
Fwiw, I would say it's a warning.

I can understand you won't update the functionality.
The problem then remains that if I insert a shortcut, I can' get rid of it
anymore. Undo also does not work.
I would have to close without saving any changes I may have done before
(accidentally?) dragging the shortcut onto the document.

Hi,

I have a shotcut to a jpeg image file.
I drag the shortcut onto the writer document.

I expect either:
- that the image that the shortcut points to is inserted;
- that the shortcut to the image is inserted.

Instead I get the Insert Section dialog.
I leave the default settings, with the Link checkbox checked, and click the
Insert button.
The result is a lot of strange characters in the document that I can't get rid
of. See attachment.

I uninstalled 680m115 and installed 680m116.
Installation went fine, installed it only for the current user (maybe that's the
problem?)
Then I started writer and in the user installation process, the error occurred.
Fyi, the directory that the error msg points to (C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org
1.9.116\share\basic\FormWizard) is empty on my installation.

This first occured in 680m115 and it also occurs in 680m116 when running swriter
the first time after installation, I guess it's when the user installation takes
place. See the screen shot of the error box.
This also occured on 680m115 on Fedora Core 3.

I already had 1.9.109 installed.
I removed the OpenSymbol font and downloaded the corrected one from issue 45163
like you said. That did not solve the problem.
Then I removed the OpenSymbol font from the Fonts control panel applet,
uninstalled 1.9.109 and installed OOo1.9.110.
Still no luck.
When opening the font from the Fonts control panel applet, I see the same as
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/24226/opensymbolfont.png.

I created an OOo writer document as attached.
When opened in MSWord, the dashes are replaced by strange characters.
A screenshot of that is also attached.
cheers Bart.

Easy to reproduce (in OOo1.9.109, on WinXP and Linux).
Create a new document, type some text, go to print preview, press the Export
Directly as PDF button on the toolbar and save the PDF file somewhere. Open the
PDF file in acroread, you see an empty page.
On Linux, when you open the pdf file in KGhostView, strange things happen with
the system resources.

A Word document, when printing it in MSWord it's ok, when printing it in OOo
(1.9.107) a strange font appears. I heard about embedded fonts in Word
documents, maybe that's the problem here? The document looks ok in OOo print
layout, in print preview it's sometimes displayed ok and sometimes with the
strange font.
I will upload scans of the Word printout and the OOo printout.
If you want to I can mail you the document, it's confidential.

Ik have a pretty big Word97 document with links to other word files.
When saving it in OO, I get the message: Too many windows open about 25 times,
which about corresponds to the amount of word files that are included in this
file.

Sorry, this one is on OO1.9.105, not 1.0.0.

When opening the saved document in OO, the heading numbering is gone.
When opening the saved document in Word2000, I can't place the cursor on the
linked sections anymore, the cursor jumps straight to the end of the linked
section. Also, I can't get the context menu on the linked section to show
anymore.

The Help says:

Printing slides as a handout
You can print several slides on a single page of paper.
1.Choose View - Handout Page.
2.Click Print File Directly in the Standard Bar.

The result is one slide per page instead of the 6 in handout view.

I can understand this behaviour when you select to print the whole workbook
(print range All) but not when you select to print the current sheet (Print
range Selection).
It should print the sheet regardless of print ranges defined on other sheets
within the workbook.
I'm sure many new OO-users will run into this and find it anoying.

It's probably already listed in another bug but I couldn't find it so excuse me
please for this possible duplicate :-)

MS Excel has a default for 'Current sheet'.
It's anoying, especially for new OO-users coming from Excel (and also for techie
old me, working with Excel at a customer site and working with OO at home), to
find that when your document comes out of the printer, all 100+ sheets were
printed where you only wanted to print the one you were looking at on your
screen.

I don't agree.
You say:
So how should the file open dialog know that you
want to open a HTML File with Calc instead of the default application if you
do not select the HTML Filter for Calc from the dropdown box ?
I start *Calc*, within Calc I select to open an html document.
I do not expect Calc to open different applications.
If it doesn't support html documents it should tell me so and maybe give me
the option to open it in writer/web.

The thing I use a lot in web applications is that my cgi program generates
html output and I send the header application/vnd.ms-excel out on to the
browser so that the user sees the result in a spreadsheet application. When
the user has MS Office installed, Excel is opened with the
imported html. Now in OO, this action results in the document being opened in
writer/web where I just want to present the data in a spreadsheet.

It does not happen in an empty oo2.0beta odt document but it does happen in my
from oo1.1.4 converted sxw to oo2.0beta odt document.
See the sample document.
Position the cursor after the last dot in B.V.
Type: is (space before and after is)
The i of is is capitalized bij autocorrect.
I don't want that so I press ctrl-z to undo
- result is a crash.

It's an MS Word document I open in OpenOffice.
This problem also occurs in all previous OpenOffice versions.
I will upload a sample document.

I have an MS Word document with an embedded OLE Excel object.
In OpenOffice 1.1.4 (and previous versions) this object displays ok and when I
double click on on it it opens in OO Calc which is fine.
In OpenOffice 2.0 beta the object does not display nor print correctly. Several
cells in the excel object are blanked out.
Also, when clicking on the ole object I get the message:

Error activating object: General OLE error

I will upload screenshots and the document.

I will upload the sheet.
Please note that this originally was an excel spreadsheet, then an openoffice
1.1 .sxc file and then an openoffice 2.0 beta .ods.

Bart.

I have a fairly large spreadsheet (15 sheets).
I open it and go to file-print
It takes around 10 seconds before the print dialog appears.
Then I select page 15 to print.
I press OK.
It takes around 10 seconds for the print diaplog to disappear ad another 20
seconds before printing starts.
Running on a Dell Dimension 8300 3GHz, 1GB ram, printer is a HPLJ6MP.
