It's not free, but at least it has the basic functionality working and so will pay off rather soon. OpenOffice is full of bugs and show stoppers. You will notice when you start using it. Bear in mind it is incompatible to Microsoft and you can't switch easily after you have started. Don't wait for the developers to fix important bugs. They won't. I gave up filing OpenOffice bugs long time ago after I noticed it is useless and endless.
