Sorry for not response in time.

It is a serious problem that OpenOffice.org 2.x can't show Chinese characters on
its interface under most distros. All Chinese characters are displaying in blank
or squares.

This is because the font alternative list provided by openoffice is not the real
case in most modern distros, and it is not what user liked.

Currently Chinese font substituion list doesn't fit the modern distro anymore,
as most of them are using Uming/Ukai, which is not listed in registry.
Furthermore, zh-SG should be the same as zh-CN, rather than zh-TW.

Patch to registry/data/org/openoffice/VCL.xcu follows.

The overall algorithm is:
1. Guess the font family group based on the last few chraracters of family name.
2. If the font family group of the font document is using and the font
installed in system are the same, then the two fonts are considered as fungible.
3. The document will be displayed and printed in the first fungible font.

There are a lot of font vendors in China, and they are providing same fonts in
different names. For instance, Vender Foo named its Song as Foo Song, vender
Bar named as Bar Song. But acturally, Foo Song and Bar Song renders 90% the
same as each other.

Considering the huge number of styles of Chinese fonts, I would suggest some
smart substitution algorithm on this issue. Patch made by Firefly follows.

Attachment#30159 is the patch made by Firefly. As I'm not familiar with way OOo
rendering characters, I'm wondering about why we couldn't just mapping

As required by LOCALE DATA(URL given), I've revised the locale data as a native
Chinese speaker. Here is what I want to tell you.

N1360: You are right. Please align to CLDR.
N1361: You are right. China takes Monday as the first day of a week. If
possible, please correct CLDR. Thanks.
N1362: None of them are right. In fact, Chinese rarely assign numbers to the
weeks. But you can just take it as 4 days, which is the most newspapers are
following.
N1363: Both of them are correct. While the former is the abbr form, the latter
is the regular form. For a better understanding, I would suggest that you align
to CLDR.
N1364: We are using both of the two punctions. If we are listing the words or
phrases, we will use the one OOo assumes. But if we are listing several
sentences, the one from CLDR would be fine.

OOo 1.1.4(zh_CN) under GNOME 2.8 (Mandrakelinux 10.2), with the option Use
System default UI font enabled.

The default font of GNOME is Sans 10. And it seems that OOo is happy with
that, then try to display the menu and the dialog with Sans. But
unfortunately, OOo just pickup the first avaliable font(DejaVu Sans) in Sans
family to display the menu. The result is that, almost all the glyphs in menu
and dialogs show nothing, except those glyphs are presented in the(DejaVu
Sans).

Although I could disable the Use system default UI font option, or select a
different font in gnome-control-center, it would be a great help that OOo could
issue correct lang property when selecting avaliable font.
