Setup/repair did not help but the problem has gone away after a complete
uninstall, reboot, re-install.

2005 ---
Attempting to open a document using File/Open when the file type in the file
list selector window is set to "All Files" gives an error, Read Error, Error
Loading Converter.
After restricting the list by setting the file type to say MS Word 97/2000/XP
the file can be opened.
The file can be opened also from the Recent Documents list

This has been found so far for both doc and for txt files.

It also applies to a new copy of the document just saved from within OpenOffice
