If you create a table in a MySQL database, with only one field id, which is
autogenerated, it's not obvious how to insert a row into that table using the
direct table editing mode (i.e. not using a form).

I created a mysql 5.1 database on localhost (which is running Fedora Linux
rawhide) and connected to it using the JDBC driver. I then created a table
called File using the table design mode.

In this table I put these 2 fields:

1. name: id, type: Integer [INT UNSIGNED], autoincrement: yes, primary key
2. name: image, type: Image [MEDIUMBLOB]

When I saved the table, I got an error message dialog, and this is the full
message which I got from clicking the More button:

SQL Status: 42000
Error code: 1064

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your
MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '(10) NOT NULL
auto_increment,`image` MEDIUMBLOB, PRIMARY KEY (`id`))' at line 1

I had to Force Quit openoffice.org for some reason. After I did this, the
hostname of my laptop changed
due to picking up a new hostname via DHCP when I connected it to a network.
When I then tried to
reopen openoffice by double-clicking on a presentation file on the desktop, two
problems occurred:

1. A dialog appeared saying:
Either another instance of OpenOffice.org is accessing your personal settings
or your personal settings
are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in you personal setings.

etc. etc. I believe this is due to the hostname change.

Maybe this dialog is harmless in this situation - I don't know. I just chose to
continue, as I was in a rush
to give the presentation.

2. OpenOffice did not open the document. It just sat there - no error message,
nothing. I had to use
Open twice(!) from the File menu before it actually managed to open the
document succesfully, and
even then it only opened it read-only, and complained that the document is open
on another computer
(it thinks the old hostname represents a different computer, I presume).

My experiments have revealed that restoring the old hostname and restarting
openoffice works around
this problem - as usual, you get prompted to start recovering the document
(which had been open
when I used Force Quit, by the way), and it opens the document without problems.

If I create a table, then go to Save it, then in the Save dialog box, press the
Help button, I get about one line of relevant help - however, if I then close
Help, and press the Help button again, I get the following in Help, which is
completely irrelevant:

Chart Module not Available
OpenOffice.org Chart is not available as a standalone module any longer. You can
open your existing charts produced with earlier versions in a read-only mode
where the chart can be displayed and printed.
To insert an existing chart document created with a previous version of the
software:
1.Open a OpenOffice.org Calc document.
2.Choose Insert - Object - OLE Object.
3.In the dialog, click Create from file. Click the Search button and select the
.sds file. The chart is inserted and selected.
4.The chart data can be retrieved or edited after clicking the Chart Data icon
on the Formatting bar.

I created a new Derby database (using Derby version 10.2.2.0), tried to create a
table in Design View, and it wouldn't save the table - said there was a syntax
error: Encountered , on line 1, char 40 (i.e. the first comma below).

This was the offending statement, according to the derby.log file:

CREATE TABLE APP.Tags (Id VARCHAR,Name VARCHAR,Desc VARCHAR)

I am using Sun JDK 1.6.

Open attached file, export as PDF. The resulting PDF is invalid - it won't open
in Acrobat 5 and pdftotext shows the following errors:

Error: Unterminated string
Error: End of file inside dictionary
Error: End of file inside dictionary

Side note: this URL was auto-recognised by OpenOffice when I pasted it, but the
auto-recognising code didn't include the closing bracket (probably for good
heuristic reasons, because most of the time a closing bracket in pasted text
*isn't* part of a URL).

Run OO.org from a terminal, open attached file and click on the hyperlink. It
gives a generic error dialog, but in the terminal it gives the real error:

sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `('
sh: -c: line 0: `/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/kde-open-url
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_(computers)'

This is because the ( in the URL hasn't been escaped, so the shell is confused
by it. (Any other special shell characters that might appear in URLs also need
to be escaped, of course.)

I am using KDE 3.4.2 on Fedora Core 4.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 57743] New - Chart not created if entire rows selected and same sheet used as t arget

If you select rows 2 to 9 by clicking and dragging on the left margin, so that
the entire rows are selected, and then insert a chart, and choose to insert the
chart on the same sheet (Sheet1), the chart will not appear. Calc seems to go
into chart selected mode, but no chart is visible anywhere on the sheet.

This defect does not occur if
(a) you select only the rectangle containing the data, by hand
or (b) you choose another sheet as the target

This is on Fedora Core 4
$ rpm -q openoffice.org-calc
openoffice.org-calc-2.0.0-3.2.1

My guess is that it is trying to put the chart to the right of the selection,
instead of to the right of the actual data.
