[sw-issues] [Issue 114461] Performance problems with documents with a certain header
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=114461 --- Additional comments from jame...@openoffice.org Mon Sep 13 06:46:06 + 2010 --- The version of Openoffice is every version that I have used since I have been opening documents with this format - from Openoffice 2.3 to Openoffice 3.2. The issue is a general performance one - if I try to work on a document with this header, Openoffice performance dreadfully slow. You can see this while scrolling the document - so I'll describe the steps for this: 1. Open up the document I attached 2. Scroll down to the bottom of the document. It scrolls down smoothly. 3. Scroll back up to the top of the document. When it gets to the header Openoffice stumbles and blocks for about half a second (on my computer). 4. Do the same procedure with the resources graph of the System Monitor turned on (in a Gnome environment.). Scrolling down the document registers only a slight increase in CPU activity; however scrolling up results in sometimes intense CPU activity. I've had it go up to 80% CPU on one of the three processors on this machine! 5. Delete the part of the header which says Language Department and repeat the steps above. There is no problem in scrolling up now. 6. Open up the document with an office suite not based on Openoffice - it should handle the scrolling without incident. Those are the steps to reproduce just one of the problems I encounter with documents with this header (it was made in WordArt as far as I can tell). The trouble is that the performance problems with these documents seem general: whenever I work on a document that has this header in Openoffice, performance is poor. When I talked about crashes, I meant that Openoffice has on occasion broken its teeth completely on documents with this header - fortunately this is very rare. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I've attached the correct one with this reply. As for the version of Openoffice, I wasn't aware that there was an official one and a Ubuntu one. In that case, my version was supplied by Ubuntu so I guess that makes it the un-official one. But it doesn't seem to make a difference - I have this issue at work too on a Windows machine, although the Windows version does seem a bit better. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. With every version of Openoffice I've used and on every computer I have found that scrolling up in these documents is far from smooth: it's very jittery, and it has even known to crash Openoffice. Last week I tried to do a mail merge, and dragging the fields from Calc to Writer was as though the computer didn't have enough RAM (and yet it has 4GB); however, documents that do not have this header are fine. I don't have this problem with other office suites (Abiword, Koffice), although I do with Lotus Symphony - so the problem seems specific to Openoffice. I will include a document for you to be able to check it out. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I just wanted to report a small spelling mistake in Impress. It concerns the animations. One of the animations is called Put on the breaks when it should be Put on the brakes. I know this is a tiny issue, and I hesitated before posting, but these small things can make a difference to the presentation of the software. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 96062] Writer crashes on opening some doc files.
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=96062 Issue #|96062 Summary|Writer crashes on opening some doc files. Component|Word processor Version|OOO300m7 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by|james70 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Nov 10 19:15:13 + 2008 --- Hello, This is the first time I have ever reported a bug - I hope I'm following the correct procedure. I have many times encountered problems when opening some doc files since installing Openoffice 3. When I try to open them, Writer starts but hangs, and needs to be forced shut. My primary OS is Linux, but the same files won't open in Vista either. I should add that I am able to open the files with Openoffice Portable (2.3). Procedure 1: Click on file to Open. Writer starts but opens on a blank screen. CPU usage jumps to unacceptably high values (around 100% on one of the 3 CPUs) Procedure 2: Start Writer Press File then Open Choose the doc file to open. Writer doesn't open the file and CPU usage once again jumps to 100%. If the window is reduced, it is impossible to bring it back up again. I repeat that this doesn't happen on all doc files, and I can't find a pattern linking those that are affected. I'll include an example, just as soon as I work out how to attach files to these reports! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
