When I save, close, and reopen a .docx file (which I created using the same
version of OpenOffice) that contains footnotes, I see that some kind of newline
has been added to each footnote. Specifically:
Before saving a document as .docx (or re-saving a .docx), OpenOffice gives me
the generic warning: "This document may contain formatting or content that
cannot be saved in the Microsoft Word 2007 XML format", etc. I punch the "Keep
Current Format" button, and it saves. I close the document, then reopen it.
Everything else about the footnote comes out fine: font, size; the only
difference that I can observe when I reopen the file is that some kind of
newline character has been added to the end of each footnote. It seems like a
very consistent, simple, easy-to-fix bug. Hope this helps.
