I am running Open Office 3.3.0. Same Problems over here. NeoOffice gives
read-only access. Why not with
OpenOffice?

[porting-issues] [Issue 84506] table database access fail s via jdbc to postgresql

I just found out what the culprit is: if you try the command as
SELECT * FROM public.contacten WHERE ( public.contacten.achternaam
LIKE '%ensel%' )
instead of
SELECT * FROM public.contacten WHERE ( public.contacten.achternaam LIKE
'%ensel%' )

it works. The root of the cause is that the schema catalog is not commented
separately in the WHERE
clause. The workaround is:

In the advanced properties of the database settings, turn off Use schema name
in SELECT statements

Then there is no schema definition added to the created in the SQL statements
and the error is not
thrown.

I just tested it on DEV300m45. It reappeared. It was gone during 3.0 and 3.0.1
(OOO300m15), but later
updates seem to have managed to resurface this bug.

This is what came up in the window, if I clicked more:

SQL-status: 42P01

ERROR: missing FROM-clause entry for table public.contacten

De SQL-opdracht die deze fout veroorzaakt is:

SELECT * FROM public.contacten WHERE ( public.contacten.achternaam LIKE
'%ensel%' )

I can send screendumps with the messages messages if you like to.

In the 300 versions, SQL query designer crashes when closing the designer
window when the window is
closed. If you want to, you can get the crash log. I have this behaviour since
some versions in Dev300M*,
also in the betas and release candidates. Tested in the dutch version of
OpenOffice on Mac OS X 10.5.4.

In 232, carbon version and X11 versions, it is possible to connect to a
postgresql database via JDBC. In
m239 with aquavlc04 that is partly possible: connecting works, and running
queries does also work.
However, just looking at a table fails miserably, with the error popup:

The data content could not be loaded

Syntax error in SQL expression
()OK ()More

If you click on the more, an error window with four crosses with Error behind
it appears, which all say
The data conect could not be loaded.

I tested it on m239 on windows, there it works flawlessly. The difference
between windows and OS X is
perhaps the Java version: 1.5.13 on the mac, 1.6.03 on Windows

Cocoa apps always show the path in the window when you press the command key
while clicking on the
top window bar. That makes it very easy to navigate to the document in the
Finder.

It would be a real enhancement if Open Office would have that capability too.

I just heard from a developer that they used a windowless Open Office-X11 app
to do some kind of
mail-merge to print automatically, without interference of the user. He really
hopes to get that same
functionality in the Aqua version of Open Office.

I would propose an enhancement that would go further, by exposing objects via
Services and
Applescript.

Services are parts of your own program that you expose to other programs. If
you look under the
services menu under the application name's menu, you might find some stuff over
there. The nice thing
about it is that you can very simpel expose functions in your application to do
stuff for other apps.

See:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/SysServices/index.html

I use them quite a lot, with (for instance wordservice.service from
http://www.devon-
technologies.com/download/index.html, that gives you the possibility to
capitalize words, sentence
etc.

Making Open Office Applescriptable would do the same via a programming
interface. The nice thing
about it would be that this would make it possible to use OpenOffice via
Automator to do all kind of
nifty things.

However, after I tried to customize the keys again (which did not work, see

disappeared again. Some kind of interconnection is going on...

You cannot modify nor see the shortcut keys in Tools- Customize-Keyboard.

and you can not modify them.

It can also lead to crashes. I had several crashes, depending on the button I

Although Copy and Paste work now, the normal keys on the mac do not work for
copy and paste. That is
annoying, as the Save button does work with the CMD key (CMD being the Apple

Under the Services menu apps will give you the opportunity to use part of their
functions to do things on
similar data. For instance, there are functions from TextEdit that let you
summarize a text, or count words,
etc. You can also install services bundles that do specific jobs for you, like
Convert all first letters to
capitals etc.

This does not work with OpenOffice/Aqua. It does work in Pages, or TextEdit.
The nice thing is that it is
also not working in NeoOffice

If you type and press space and go to the next word, the space seems to be
dependent on the last letter
from the word before it. The space will show if the last letter is a wide eg m
or w, but not with narrow
letters, eg i or j. In the narrow case, the space will show if the next letter
of the following word is show. It
gives a very odd feeling while typing.

It seems that all right to left fonts do not show up in the font picker. That
might suggest some common
cause.

When choosing arab as the input menu, and selecting these fonts (nadeem,
KufistandardGK), the fonts
work while typing.

In the dutch version of aquavcl01 the listboxes in the language settings only
display the first few items
properly (eg: currency settings, only the first 5 countries, the rest are
marked as Onbekend =
Unknown). When setting the language settings in the US version, which works
properly, the settings are
saved, when opened in the dutch version, the euro sign shows up, but not the
country.

Could anybody confirm that in another language? (src680-m214-aquavcl01)

First, select a piece of text eg http://www.openoffice.org, do a copy of that
text.
Check if paste works in text by doing a paste of the copied text.
Then, select a piece of text, choose insert-hyperlink.
Then, try to paste the copied text into the hyperlink field.

Does not work.

Please try the X11 version from
ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/. This
issue has been resolved in version OOF680_m18 and is still resolved in
2.2.1rc3_20070601, which is
OOF680_m18 I suppose.

I do not know if the source that is used with the aqua version (SRC280_m211)
has been synched with
OOF680_m18. If that still has to be synched to that version, you can be sure
that the issue is resolved as
soon as that has happened.

Confirmed, I tried Pavel's latest Aqua (26th of May ) and the printer do not
show up in the printer dialog.
Tried it as a normal user and as an admin user.

Create a local or remote connection to a postgresql database via JDBC.
Save the Database document.
Open the database document, fill in the username/password for the database.
Try to open a table. Open Office silently crashes.
While running in xterm, this is the message one gets:

ppp20:/Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.2.app/Contents/MacOS/program johan$
./soffice.bin
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'jvmaccess::VirtualMachine::AttachGuard::CreationException'
Abort trap

jdbc: postgresql-jdbc-8.2-504

java: java version 1.5.0_07
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_07-164)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_07-87, mixed mode, sharing)

System:

ppp20:~ johan$ uname -a
Darwin ppp20.nest.nl 8.9.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Feb 22
20:55:00 PST 2007; root:xnu-792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386

ppp20:~ johan$ psql82 --help
This is psql 8.2.3, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal.

psql is built from www.macports.org.

Connection in which I noticed the problem is remote. If I try local, same
problem.

I have tried already to look at the crash log. There isn't any, nor a
message in /var/log/system.log. I looked in all the usual places.
Started with ./soffice and ./soffice.bin. I had even turned on the
java console logging on to see if I could get some messages over
there.
