OK this one may be a problem with this being a beta or something. I have
installed the second beta two times now. I have been also using the production
release some, and have decided that I am comfortable enough with this to use it
for my production copy. So I fully removed all of the open office stuff and
then reinstalled the second beta. Low and behold the problem was fixed.

Just for giggles I reinstalled the production release and low and behold the
problem was back. This appears to be a problem with some kind of a conflict
between the two versions. One would assume that when this goes production one
would remove the old version as a part of the install process and we will be
golden.

Interesting. Now maybe the problem occurs farther back in the system. What
happens if you double click on an excel file? The 3.0 installer also managed
to remove the ability of open office to handle excel files if you click on them.

I am wondering if this has something to do with weather or not you have the open
office 3.0 set to handle excel documents.

I have no excel, so I do use open office to handle excel documents, but when I
installed I didn't set the beta to handle these. After all the point of beta
testing is to test and didn't want to run for anything even simi production I
was doing by default.

Now I have found that I have no program to handle excel files. The ability for
the previous version of OO has also been removed.

OK we have improvement but no joy.

Installed the new beta. Now if you create an open office document and save it
as an open office document you are golden. The same thing with an open office
spread sheet.

But create and/or save in excel format and no joy.

This may seem nit picky, but it is really annoying. I have a two screen xp sp2
system. The screens are side by side with a main screen in front of me and an
auxiliary screen to my right. When ever I di a spell check either from the
menu or from the right click menu the pop up that is the speck checker pops up
with half of the box in each screen. This is really annoying. every time I
have to grab it and move it with my mouse to a readable position.

This might take a lot of programming to fix, but it would be nice if you could
do so.

Well I guess we have to figure out how to get it failing for you.

I am running xp sp2

I have oo 2.4 loaded and then loaded the beta. I do weird things, and actually
could make good use of the writer/notes feature so I figured I would be a good
tester. Especially it is not that big of a disaster if I have to do a work
around to get something working.

I bring up oo3b by clicking on it on the desktop

I then select open a file

I then navigate to a excel spead sheet and open it

change it

save it

exit

and it is not in the my recent documents list.

Spread sheets opened in beta 3.0 are not showing up in the recent documents
list. That is you edit a spread sheet and in the past it showed up in the My
Recent documents list of the start menu. This is now not happening.
