@maveric--

I did add ericb's revised code.

I echoed what you did and found the same issue you did. After I quit OOo with
X11 still open, I couldn't restart OOo. After I quit X11, OOo restarted just
fine and very quickly.

OOo now opens so quickly, I can quit X11 every time I quit OOo and not lose any
time ... as long as OOo opens (which it is now doing).

Let me know if I should test anything else -- happy to be part of the trouble
shooting -- it benefits everyone if this gets figured out.

@ericb --

I had an extra five minutes and added the new code. Worked perfectly! Everything
is fixed.

Many thanks again. :)

That's the error message I got:

"The variable theEnv is not definted."

I will try this new-new fix later tonight, and I'll post back. Thanks!

I just made this code swap last night, and it worked perfectly, with no problems
whatsoever.

I did restart my Mac before I re-opened OpenOffice. And it's still working
today.

I also have to say: since incorporating this fix, OOo 2.4.1 opens much faster.
It's not stuck on the X11 window for as long as it used to be.

Many thanks to Shaun for the fix!

One day, I tried to open OpenOffice. It didn't open. I got to the X11 frame with
this inside it: bash-3.2$. After that, it didn't open. It has opened every other
time I used it, and just used it the day before.

It seemed to suddenly stop working.

My troubleshooting included:
- restarting my computer and trying again
- quitting all other applications
- trying to open from both the alias in my dock and from the actual application
- trying to open it from an OpenOffice word doc

This morning, I trashed my old OpenOffice application and downloaded and
installed a "fresh" one. I reset the alias in my dock.

It is still not opening.

I tried all of the above troubleshooting again. The application simply won't
open. X11 opens, but then doesn't lead into OpenOffice as it used to.

I appreciate your help in advance. I would like to keep using this product and
really believe in open source software, but I really need this to work!
