I don't think that automatically changing image content for HC mode (or Large
Print mode or whatever) is necessarily the correct thing to do. I think making
these modifications to images for improved visibility is a great idea, but it
should be an optional setting in the Accessibility preferences.

1. On a GNOME system, turn the desktop accessibility flag on
2. Open a new Formula
3. From the Unary/Binary Operators collection in the Selection window, choose
A+B
4. From the Functions collection in the Selection window, choose sin (which
would put a Sin() in for A in the forumula you are creating).
OOo will now crash.

I first discovered this trying to drive the Selection with GOK's Toolbar
function, but found that I don't even need to have any assistive technology
running; just having the desktop accessibility flag turned on is enough.

The system I found this bug on is running JDS 3 build 40. Sorry, I forget the
technique for determining the build number of SO/OOo...

This should be retargetted. It should be closed as WONTFIX. XEvIE is our route
to getting the Ctrl key at all times. We have enough critical accessibility
bugs to fix to be keeping things like this around.

I'm not able to reproduce the problem as a new user. In my test case, I kept my
/home directory and upgraded to a new version of SO for an existing previous SO
user (had preferences files from a previous build of SO 8). I recall now that I
was surprised I had to go through the registration dialogs when I launched SO.

So even if this bug can be reproduced, this is not a real end-user case. Sorry
for the fire drill.

On JDS Cinnabar 36 configure desktop for accessibility. Java 1.5.0_03 is
already configured for accesibility.
Now launch SO8. It is not accessible. You need to go to Java Options in order
to select the 1.5.0_03 JRE and restart StarOffice before you can use it. This
will be an insurmountable barrier for users with disabilities, who won't be able
to manipulate the GUI in order to make this configuration change.

At a minimum when the desktop accessibility flag it set, SO8/OOo should *always*
use the accessible Java if it can find it. This is a regression.

Bill, I don't understand the issue here. GOK will see a File menu (for example)
that implements AccessibleSelection, and an About menu item (for example) that
implements AccessibleAction. Telling File via AccessibleSelection to select
About happens to do the same thing as telling About via AccessibleAction to
click.

Why cannot GOK distinguish between the two and only call one of them at it's
choice? I don't see a problem here. What am I missing?

Hmm... Frankly need to select an object before AccessibleAction works seems odd
to me (if not a bug). Also calling a menu item a menu button seems wierd to
me - not a GUI concept for me.

But separate from that, it is still the case that in Java you (a) don't need to
select an item before you can call its Action, and (b) menu item selection ==
invocation. If you have a strong desire for this to appear differently in
AT-SPI, then it must be dealt with in the bridge.

Bill, using AccessibleSelection to 'add' a menu item to the selection of it's
parent menu has always resulted in that item being activated in Java/Swing. You
can see this with the Monkey tool. Select a menu in the accessible tree of a
Swing app and bring up the Selection panel for it (e.g. File in SwingSet2).
Choose a selectable child and click Add to add it to the selection, and that
will activate the menu item.

This is different for things like lists of course. But for menus we mirror the
standard GUI notion of selecting from a menu.

Set the cursor blink rate to something fast, or turn it off completely, on the
GNOME Desktop. Specifically do this with the Java Desktop System Release 3 via:
Launch-Preferences-Desktop Preferencs-Keyboard-Behavior and then in the
Keyboard Tabbed section uncheck Cursor blinks in text boxes and fields or
simply move the slider to the far right edge. You may need to log out and back
in (you don't on JDS 3 Linux, but I haven't tested on Solaris).

Launch StarOffice. Open Writer - notice the caret blink rate is unaffected by
the desktop setting. Click in the toolbar for font, size, etc. - again the
caret blink rate isn't the desktop setting (in fact, it doesn't blink at all).
Same problem (no blinking at all) in Calc.

I just succeeded in reproducing a hang in the StarOffice 8 build m91 menu system
on a different machine: JDS 3 build 28 on a Fujitsu Pentium M system.

1. I launched 'soffice'
2. I launched Gnopernicus with speech and Braille monitor (I realize now I
didn't mention that I had Braille Monitor turned on before; sorry)
3. I pressed Alt-F
4. I pressed down arrow, right arrow, left arrow, down arrow, down arrow, right
arrow, left arrow, down arrow, right arrow, left arrow, down arrow [I'm now on
the Close menu item] down arrow, down arrow, down arrow, down arrow, right
arrow [I'm now on the Templates menu]
5. Gnopernicus read everything correctly, and on templates it told me there were
4 items in this submenu]. However, the Templates submenu never appeared when I
pressed right arrow, and my graphical desktop is now hung.

I'm hoping this qualifies sufficient relevant testing to warrant re-opening the
bug...

P.S. I confused this bug with #46891, which I was able to reproduce multiple
times. I'd very much like to retract my April 7th comment. I'm sorry about
that.
P.P.S. perhaps it would be more appropriate to leave this closed, and re-open
instead #46891?

Please compare Gnopernicus behavior with this StarOffice 8 dialog to Gnopernicus
behavior with gedit's Edit-Preferences dialog (the Editor tab). There are two
check boxes in a group under the File Saving section. Gnopernicus reads File
Saving Create a backup copy of files before saving checkbox shortcut Alt-B
checked when you tab down to that item, and then when you press down arrow it
reads only Autosave files every checkbox shortcut Alt-A unchecked.
Gnopernicus doesn't read File Saving for the second checkbox, which is the
desired behavior in the StarOffice 8 dialog.

You guys don't have a NEEDINFO state in this bug tracking system? I
reproduced it multiple times yesterday when I filed it.

I just tried to reproduce it again today. This time the behavior was slightly
different.

I launched Gnopernicus first, then StarOffice, and then started going through
the File menu. This time I had no problems opening the New submenu, Recent
Documents submenu, or Wizards submenu. But when I continued down to the Close
item I lost the ability to interact further with StarOffice. Further pressings
of down/up arrow were ignored, ESC wouldn't dismiss the menu, and also I lost
speech with Gnopernicus. I can interact with the window manager, and so was
able to move the StarOffice window around, detatching it from the menu...

See the about-to-be-attached screen shot to show this behavior.

I'm using JDS 3 build 32 with StarOffice build m91 on a Sun Java Workstation
W2100z (dual Opteron box).

1. Log in as root, launch GOK
2. Start the m91 'sh' installer
3. When the dialog box comes up, choose GOK's UI Grab feature, and select Next
4. The installer correctly moves to the next step of the installation, BUT the
GOK UI grab window fails to update; it still shows Next Cancel, and Help,
NOT Back, Accept License, Decline, and Help (and also V Scrollbar as
it should. You can see the correct UI grab keyboard by choosing back (the UI
Grab back, not the installer Back), and then UI Grab a second time.

1. As root, launch Gnopenricus
2. Run the m91 'sh' installer
3. Listen to the speech output at each dialog in the installer. Only the
focused button is spoken. Ideally a summary of what each dialog is about should
be spoken. This can be accomplished by setting the AccessibleDescription of the
dialog to something appropriate.

Separately, some of the simple dialogs (like the Exit confirmation dialog)
should have the AccessibleRole of ALERT, which will cause Gnopernicus to simply
read the entire contents of the dialog.

1. Run the 'sh' installer of build m91
2. Go through all of the dialog screens using the keyboard for navigation
3. Get to the Installing... screen with the progress indicator
4. Attempt to use the keyboard to abort the installation. Notice that you
cannot. Neither the Stop button nor the Help button have focus, TAB won't
give either focus, and spacebar and CR are useless. Only a mouse user (or
perhaps a GOK user) can stop this install.

1. Run the 'sh' installer in m91.
2. Go through the dialogs, until you get to the Installing... dialog (with the
progress indicator).
3. Either use Gnopernicus' flat review, or at-spi to inspect this dialog (while
install is progressing).
4. Note that you cannot see the Stop button or the progress bar (or the
Installing module static text. Flat review skips over it, and at-poke shows
only an empty container for that region of the dialog.

1. As root, run Gnopernicus.
2. Run the 'sh' installer of build m91
3. When you get to the Installer... dialog (with the progress bar), initial
Gnopernicus flat reivew: press the '.' or 'Del' key on the Numeric Keypad when
the NumLock key is down.
4. Gnopernicus tells you it is now in flat reivew. Use the 2 and 8 keys on the
NumPad to read through the dialog. [note that you cannot read the static text,
progress bar, or Stop button - the subject of a different Issue]
5. Now notice that installation progress has frozen. Wait a while; still no
progress.
6. Press the Stop button (with the mouse because it isn't keynavable, the
subject of another Issue). This fails to terminate the installation process.
You need to kill the process directly.

Note: my attempt at reproducing this failed, as the second time the installer
picked up where it had left off (at language support, ~70%), and then ran
through to completion.

2. Run the /opt/staroffice8/program/soffice for the first time as this user
3. Get to the License Agreement dialog
4. Tab into the text, and start pressing down arrow to read through it
5. Get the lines read to you one at a time for the first three lines (but also
have the line numbers read to you, which you DON'T want to hear - BUG) and the
empty line.
6. Then get to the text starting with SUN IS WILLING TO..., and have not the
line read to you, but the entire paragraph (BUG)
7. Now press down arrow one more time, and have only the word containing the
caret read to you instead of that line (BUG).

1. Run Gnopernicus
2. Install StarOffice via /opt/staroffice8/program/soffice as a first-time user
3. In the installer dialog, get to the Registration page
4. Hear the text You now have the opportunity to register... very nicely read
to you, along with I want to register now radiobutton checked.
5. Press down arrow to hear the other radio button options. Hear, AGAIN, You
now have the opportunity to register..., this time followed by I want to
register later radiobutton checked.

The problem appears to be in the way AccessibleGroup is used (though perhaps it
is a Gnopernicus bug?).

In any case, the desired behavior is that only the radio buttons are read as the
user moves through them, and not the label for them each and every time.

1. Start Gnopernicus
2. Start StarOffice (the fact that this is as a first time user, with no history
of opened documents, may be a critical part of this bug)
3. Press Alt-F to open the file menu, and down arrow to Recent Documents
4. Press right arrow to expand the Recent Documents submenu. Your desktop is
now hung. Ctrl-Alt-F1 won't even work.
