Hi,

the height of the printer ListBox should be resizeable. I currently have 11
Printers installed and selecting the right one is a fiddly thing, because my
scrollwheel scrolls too fast (too many lines at once). The scrollbar is really
sensitive too.

Integrating this feature in the new Print Dialog would be great.
If it's possible to export it from there as PDF it would be
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious :P

When I try to use the mailmerge assistant, and personalize the document, the
header and footer is gone.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create new document
2. Add header and/or footer
3. Put some text in header and/or footer
4. Use the mailmerge assistant to select the addresses
5. Put some fields from the imported Calc table in the document (via Data
Sources)
6. Personalize document
7. View the result

In earlier releases OpenOffice created tons of styles for individual headers and
footers. They are missing to.

Hi,

I tried it with the official deb packages, because of some other bugs in the PPA
ones. The read error is gone.

It is a bit unaesthetic that OO is now installed in /opt but it's better than
the faulty installation from the PPA packages.

I actually answered 2 questions. :P Just kidding forgot to write it in the
comment.
There is no before and after. I tested it, and the image is still in the temp
directory but is displayed as read error in Writer.

I will do some tests next week, when I have local access to the PC again. Then
I'll prepare some samples and upload them.

I'll test the "original" build in a VM when I have some free time.

Hi,

when I start a new document from a template that is located on a mounted NFS
share, the Images are loaded properly. But after a while (didn't stopped the
time but around 5-10 minutes) instead of the images only the text "Lesefehler"
(Read error in english) is shown.
When I try to save the file and reload it, the images are still displayed as
read error. When I start a new document from the template, the images are shown
correctly again (for 5-10 minutes).

I use the PPA deb packages for Ubuntu 9.04.

Does MailMerge still create tons of styles when creating the personalized
Document with header and footer?
If it does, it would be a good idea to eliminate this behavior too.

When pasting a wide Calc table into a Writer document with portrait orientation,
It's needed to create another page template with landscape orientation and
assign it to the Page with the Calc table.

This is too compilcated compared to MS Office.

Hi,

I hope this patch works and is build into a developer build or a special test
build if it's not possible to add it to the 3.0 Release.

It don't think that it's a real solution for the actual problem, that it's not
possible to clone documents in the memory, but it's a temporary solution that is
imho totally needed.

Today I had to merge some labels, approx. 480, 8 labels per document for our new
students. With 3 pictures and 2 fields per label, it took almost an hour to
create the documents on the old machine at university. Tomorrow I need to make
another 200 and there is no way to get around this, because MS Office 2007
doesn't run on Linux, and that's the only OS installed on the PCs for the
students council.

k sorry for the inconvenience. I didn't knew the correct procedure.

By the way I was able to solve it for me by wiping OOorg from the registry after
uninstall. Seems to be a problem with orphaned entries from previous builds.

This bug is pretty similar to bug #93836.

On Windows XP SP3, OOorg 3.0 RC(1|2) the filename is not set when opening an
existing file.

For Reproduction try:

1. Opening an existing file from explorer
2. Take a look at the titlebar (Untitled X)

Tested it with DEV300_m5 still slow.
I understand the header/footer Problem, but why there is no effect in MS Office?
How is this Problem solved by Microsoft? Any Idea?

I reposted this Bug for DEV300_m3 [1] and some more documentation, but it seems
to me that this problem will be a problem for another 1-100 years.

Tried it again with 378 Recipients, took 8:54 min to personalize and 1:47 to
save the document.

Screenshot http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/1371/kzk7ax7j_png.htm

The document has 2 pages and is based on the letter Template of the Technical
University of Darmstadt. I put the template on
http://www.outsch.org/tud_template.dot. The Fonts in this template were
purchased by the TUD and are not available for public, so they should be
replaced.

I think I know why it's faster now. If I remember correctly, I had only 1GB RAM
when I tested it with 350 Recipients, after that experience I decided to switch
to Word for Mail Merge. But also with 2GB its 13.35 times slower than on your
machine.

My PC: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 2GB RAM, 1GB Swap, 100+GB HDD, Windows XP Service
Pack 2 with all Updates.

Perhaps it's caused by a misconfiguration? I didn't change anything in bei
DEV300M3 Installation.

Hi,

I know that DEV300m3 is a Beta version and that the development has just started
and I know that the Issue is yet reported [1][2], but I think its important to
fix this performance problem in OOo 3.0.
Because compared to MS Office 2007, OpenOffice needs 10 to 60 times the time
that Word needs to personalize the documents.

I tested with 350 Recipients
-OpenOffice approx. 30 minutes to personalize
-MS Office 2007 less than a minute

and 54 Recipients on a AMD 2600+ with 2GB RAM
   -OpenOffice approx. 3 minutes
-MS Office 2007 approx. 10 seconds

I took a look at the code, but I can't explain why it is so slow and why it gets
slower with more recipients, perhaps someone else with more UNO experience could
fix it.

This Issue is now open for more than 3 years. And the target is still "OOo
Later"... Is it planned to fix this performance Problem in OOo 3.0? I hope so.
