I also try to open the GrailSpellSheet-FullVersion-29June2006.xls in Calc, and 
it takes almost 1 hour (58 minutes). It's true that CPU load goes to 100%, 
consumes more than 300MB RAM, and I can't do anything else, just wait until 
the file opened.

When I open this file using MS Excel, it takes less than 2 minutes.

But when I save the file in *.ods, it's only 3.95MB (become smaller), but when 
I try to open the file, it also takes a long time too.

I use WinXP Pro SP2, OpenOffice.org 2.0, MS Excel 2003, Pentium IV 2.6/768MB.

Actually I've found the same issue, #59004, but the status is closed, and the 
resolution is invalid. So I would like to report once again.

I have posting my question today, and noranthon tells me that there is the same 
question, and it takes me to this page (to submit issue).

So, this is the story: 
Hi, my name is Nugroho. 
I am new in using OpenOffice. Usually I use microsoft office 2003 for doing my 
daily activities. Now, I've already installed OpenOffice 2.0 in my pc (windows 
xp). For the file that has size less than 3MB, i find no problem. 
But when I try to open my file (with extension *.xls) which has size about 
26MB, it takes 30 minutes, just for opening the files. It's unbelievable!!! 
Because if I open it using Microsoft Excel, it takes less than 3 minutes. This 
file contains a lot of sheet, function/formula, macros and link. (My PC is P4 
2.6GHz, 768MB memory) 

I haven't customize any options in OpenOffice yet. 

Is there any solution?
