@cgu: turning hardware acceleration down to None in the Troubleshooting tab
(reached via Desktop-Display Properties) helps a lot on all transitions. It is
still not as smooth or fast as I would like but much better.

@thb: not sure if that issue is related as Impress has not crashed, even when I
cycled through all the transitions (via the Task Pane) a few times in Normal
view (this shows the same problem). My driver version was Catalyst v4.12, I just
updated it to CATALYST 5.3(v8.111) but (with hardware acceleration back on)
the problem still exists.

Running the attached PowerPoint presentation, some (but not all) of the graphics
have a ragged white edge around them that does not appear in Microsoft
PowerPoint. The Normal editing view of the document does not usually show these
white lines but can be made to by selecting a page transition. When the page
transition preview runs the white lines are there. I have only seen this problem
with Embedded Object (OLE) graphics, not Metafile graphics.

Slide 3 of the attached presenation shows this problem. The three ellipses'
borders are slightly too small, so that the colour of the ellipse is seen
outside the border. This occurs in both running and viewing the presentation.
The ellipses display correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.

The attached presentation includes some OLE graphics. It loads and displays them
(albeit with problems reported separately). If I save the presentation and hit
'Yes' to save it in PowerPoint 97/2000/XP format:

when I run the presentation, all the OLE graphics are replaced with a large icon
on a pink background labelled 'Object 1', 'Object 2' etc.

at first the Normal editing view shows the graphics but as I navigate through
the slides, all the OLE graphics change to these objects.

at first the slides in the Slides frame show the graphics but if I resize it, or
otherwise refresh the Slides frame, all the OLE graphics change to these
objects.

If I close and reopen the presentation, the OLE graphics are all back to normal.

In the attached presentation, OLE graphics which only include text are sized
wrongly. They are too big and some text is cut off if it does not fit in the
original space allocated to it. Slides 1 and 4 demonstrate this problem. The
text displys correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.

This occurs in OpenOffice (I don't have StarOffice). I tried changing the '3D
View' settings under 'Tools/Options/OpenOffice/View' but none of these had any
effect on the speed.

I wondered if it might be caused by the OLE graphics which showed other display
issues (issues 50111, 50113, 50114, 50115), but deleting the OLE graphics from
two consecutive slides and adding normal text instead did not speed up the
transitions to, from or between the slides.

Imported a PowerPoint presentation that included transitions such as Box In and
Venetian Blinds Vertical. The speed was set to fast but they ran very, very
slowly and jerkily. Pressing ESC during a transition had no effect so I had to
wait for the transition to complete. This is on up-to-date hardware (3.2GHz P4,
1Gb RAM, Radeon X600) but with no changes to Impress settings after
installation.

An unrecognised word containing an underscore, such as dt_datetime, is
considered to be two separate words. It is spellchecked as such, highlighting
both dt and datetime as misspellings. I would like an option to treat
underscores as part of the word and not as whitespace when spellchecking.

Context: I was writing a report on some code which included a number of
filenames and variable names in this format and wanted to be able to add the
whole name to the dictionary.

I agree that having to select 'Handouts' and then deselect 'Drawing' is annoying
and it's easy to end up printing both by mistake when you are in a rush to get
to class ;-) A one button click would be great.

I also recall that the first time I tried to use this dialog I couldn't figure
out which option(s) to choose to get the handout printout I wanted, as the words
used and the help files are vague (eg if I deselect Drawing will I get any
graphics in my handouts? if I select Notes will it provide lines next the the
slides for handwritten notes like Powerpoint does? etc). It might help to have
icons next to the checkboxes to show what they do, or better still a dynamic
'preview' to show the layout(s) your current settings will produce.

And finally, this dialog could also do with a 'print in reverse' option.
