End notes do not appear at the end but are spread all over the document The
problem is very serious. It prevents me from finishing a long document for a
publication. My situation is as follows: I have a long document with several
pages of endnotes and want to attach an alphabetical index after the end notes.
To do so, I defined the text part as section with endnotes collected at the end
of the section.
So far so good. Now, several parts of the text have to have two columns.
OpenOffice automatically opens subsections for those parts with the same
properties as the main section. This leads to the problem that endnotes partly
appear at the end of the subsections instead of at the end of the main section.
The option “collect endnotes at the end of the section” cannot be switched off
for the subsection. This means an alphabetical index cannot be attached to the
document, or the endnotes are spread all over the document.
This Issue is identical with issue 37095 raised in 2004. I had requested to
assign priority 1 to issue 37095, but so far could not see any reaction.

Using a German Version I do not know the correct technical terms, but I hope you
understand the problem from the attachment.
As you can see from the attachment an initial at the beginning of a paragraph
assumes a narrow form whenever a shadow is applied to the character format
(Zeichenvorlage)

Sorry, I have no idea, how I can attach a document to this issue. Pls let me
know
