in a document with enough slides to have a scrollbar in the slide pane, select
first slide, then, holding down ctrl, last one. press ctrl+c to copy them -
view jumps to the top of the slide pane. should not happen.

multiple slide selection in the sidebar is incorrect.

it seems to have problems if slides that are selected next are located before
slides selected before. testcases :

1. select a slide in a document, try to ctrl-select additional slide above it.
first slide is delected;
2. select a slide in a document, try to shift-select two slides above it.
nothing happens on the first click, but on the second click first slide is
deselected and single new slide is selected.
3. also one problem with downwards selection. select a slide, ctrl-select a
slide few slides below it, then try to shift-select additional range below.
original slide and omitted slides also get selected (looks like it does not
properly mark ctrl-selected slide as last used one). in this case expected
outcome would be only slides since ctrl-selected one till clicked one being
selected.
4. select a slide, ctrl-select a slide few slides below it, try to ctrl-shift
select additional range even more below. nothing happens. in this case expected
outcome would be original slide still selected in addition to slides since ctrl-
selected one till clicked one being selected as well.

trying these operations with more advanced selections results in all kinds of
unexpected results :)
also the nothing happens upon the first click problem seems to be quite
common.

i would like to use a chance to congratulate impress team on actually making
slide operations usable - even with these selection problems it is MUCH better
now ;)
dragging a single slide does not take a minute anymore, downward selection
actually works and does not select random slides (very interesting effect when
you select lots of slides in a large document to delete them...)
so thank you.

maybe subset of issue 114252, but seemed different enough.
select multiple slides, drag them elsewhere. after the operation is completed,
only single slide is selected. expected outcome would be for all previously
selected slides to stay selected

handout printing option left to right, then down actually prints top to
bottom, then right (at least when printing to a file).

this makes handout printing from oo.org impossible if left to right is
required.

see the attached testcase. open it, print it to file choose handouts.
it starts processing, and temporary file (/tmp/pspnumbers/psp_pgbody1.ps for
me) just grows forever (well, i waited till some 4 gb).

this does not happen when printing the slide itself to a file.

i almost cried when i found this issue. i have spent days trying to figure out
why the hell this stupid software ignores all the changes i make to the
handout layout or sizing. i tried several different versions (but all 3.x...)
and lots of different options.

and then it turns out that it's a regression.

basically, as they are currently, handouts are unusable for me. i have to
export to a pdf and then find some software that will print the pdf in an
acceptable way (which is a challenge as well).

even if i can get some version of 2.x running on a recent distribution, i'm not
sure presentations prepared with 3.2 will look the same. oh well, enough with
the rant (and thanks for oo.org ;) ) - gotta vote on this issue.

i'd like to ask for reopening. i just had another document get corrupted like
that (with m68). so there are two issues here :

1. oo.org inserting lots of useless, redundant change information...

2. ...which it can't handle itself later.

it would be most important to find and fix the cause of the first, and, if
possible, make it more efficient for the second.

this just happened _again_. i would consider this a blocker as it can result in
dataloss. i'm reverting to 3.1.1 myself, hopefully this problem won't be in
that version.

for the record, i decided to try 320m8, just in case. it broke my document just
like m67/68 did.
downgraded back to 3.1.1, so far editing seems to be fine.
so this issue will affect 3.2 as well, and i believe it is quite serious.

for me, it seems to be provoked by deleting some things with change recording
enabled. deleting some text (either with del/backspace, or starting to type
with text selected) results in slower and slower operations, and in the xml
file i can find lots and lots of redundant image deletion entries (even though
i haven't deleted any images).

in the first case it was single image repeated, in the second case there were
two images alternating in the entries.

i just attached an excerpt from content.xml which shows few starting instances
of repeated entries.
repeatings are always twice in this file. nuking them to leave only one entry
of each fixes the document.

so far this has happened in two different documents as well.

dev300m68, actually (not in the list currently)

in impress (default normal view), drag tasks pane handler to the right (make it
narrower). at some point, gray slide background area is not redrawn properly.

now do the same to the 'slides' pane - slide follows when this pane is made
more narrow, but again, area to the right of the slide is not redrawn.
scrolling the slide horizontally hides it behind the visual glitches - see the
screenshot.

i have an interesting problem with impress in m67.

i have an outline area with text. as soon as i place the cursor in this area,
first line of the contents gets deleted.

if i save the file and reopen it, _all_ contents from outline area are gone, so
i can't create a proper testcase.

if i copy the outline area and paste in another location in the same or another
presentation, this copy of the outline area does not show the problem.

as i can't create a proper testcase, but bug can lead to data loss (emptying
outline containers when saving), i'd really like to get relevant information.

i would appreciate some information on how to gather data that could help
developers locate the bug while i still have the document open (thus the
priority choice) :)

opening a specific document (contains lots of comments and recorded changes)
oo.org becomes extremely unresponsive and it can be barely closed.
happens both with 3.1.1 and m67.
this is quite unfortunate, as i'm locked out of a document with a deadline
already missed...

confidential document will be sent to mru

seems to be caused by a large amount of hidden graphics (which might be just
copies of the existing ones ?)

what's interesting, cutting out tect starting with the heading Configuring e-
mail parameters leaves lots of these duplicate images suddenly visible in the
document. couldn't test much more as it's still awfully slow.

sorry for spamming the issue, but i'm discovering new facts :)
after cutting out half of the doc, image count went down and the other half can
be edited just fine.

so there are two problems.

1. oo.org messed the document up, creating these image entries (i verified the
original, it does not have such any invisible images);

2. it still would be nice if it could handle the mess it created and not slow
down to become unusable... i tried increasing image cache considerably, but
that doesn't seem to help.

see the screenshot. dragging a curve motion path indicator for dropping them is
somewhat off the actual path.
motion path is the grey line, indicator is the black dashed line.
this makes it harder to position motion paths sometimes.

mouse wheel operates on field where keyboard cursor is, not on the one that
mouse cursor is over.
that is counterintuitive, not like in all other applications, and i believe
also a regression from previous oo.org versions.

see attached testcase. it was produced with older oo.org versions (3.1.1 and
before), then opened and saved with dev300m67.

now opening the same document in 3.1.1 results in two problems :

1. all custom animation paths are shown off the page to the left and up;
2. all custom animations are VERY slow - probably because of this displacement.

m67 opens the file normally.

that seems like a pretty serious regression and file breakage.

motion path animation undo is broken

1. sometimes performing an undo will just skip all actions with path points and
undo whatever operation was performed before that, losing all path
modifications;

2. sometimes it will leave the motion path where it is, instead inserting black
line where the path was previously

create curve motion path, verify in presentation mode that it works. modify it
by dragging endpoint, start presentation again - old motion path is used.

it looks like moving whole motion path instead of the ending point updates it
properly

create a new writer document, enter + a (without quotes, press enter. this
creates two bullets. place text cursor in place of the first bullet, notice how
fields are shaded. press enter. notice how field shading is not disabled even
though cursor is not located before a field anymore.
you can navigate the document and shading is not disabled until the next time
even happens that disables shading (like placing cursor in front of a field,
then elsewhere).
tested both with m50 and 3.1.0

create a new document, add some paragraphs, insert image.
position the cursor in text, switch stylist to character styles. select image,
then place cursor back in the text block - stylist is reset to paragraph styles.

this is quite inconvinient when doing a larger batch of formatting

i'm not sure about menu in the document itself being wrong - for example, notes
one has ignorelist twice (top menu and 'add' submenu).
also, 'add' submenu shows dictionaries that seem to be read-only, like 'sun'
one.

ps. there are two typos in the current summary, is it is to be left as is,
maybeit can be fixed to spell 'Spell check context menu shows too few
dictionaries ;)

still, this report at leats initially was also about the top level menu
differences - not only dictionary lists. should i file that as a separate
report or not ?

there are other differences as well, like Spellcheck... vs Spelling and
Grammar entries, ignore completely missing in notes menu, different
paragraph language setting entries...

as for context - i think they both should have exact same menu - both deal with
texts, and i don't see a reason why one menu should be different than the
other, at least in this case.

also note the difference in menu itself. i believe they should be identical.
why they can differ, i have no idea :)

create a writer document, add a note. write some incorrect word in it (with
underlining spellcheck enabled). write some incorrect word in the document
itself.

right click each and observe the differences like menu option sequence and
available dictionaries to add in the note version.

i don't see a reason for these menus to differ, and note one quite obviously
shows too much in the Add submenu.

kde 3.5.10, dual monitor setup. 1024x768 located to the left, 1600x1200 located
to the right.

if an undocked stylist is enabled, then disabled, it sometimes changes
horizontal width to approximately 1132 pixels wide. sometimes, if not located
at the rightmost position, it moves to it.

the same happens when windows are switched, but only between oo.org windows -
that is, if i switch between two oo.org documents, stylist gets resized/moved.
if i switch between non-oo.org window and oo.org window, no such problem
appears.

problem is not consistent - sometimes it sticks for a whole oo.org session (any
time windows are switched between oo.org ones, stylist is resized), sometimes
it disappears completely.

problem appeared in latest rc builds - dev300_m40 or so builds did not show
such a problem

see the attached testcase (should be easily reproducible with any image as
well). open picture properties, make sure keep ratio and relative for width
are marked. set relative horizontal width to 50%, confirm.
open picture properties again, set relative horizontal width to 75%. notice how
vertical size is set to ~10 times bigger vale than expected.

spss (statistic software) has an export feature. this export creates an rtf
file with .doc extension.
if such a report containing images is opened in word, they are visible.
if it is opened in writer, images have size set to 0,04cm x 0,04cm, thus they
are not visible.

testcase has been delivered to sba, who found out the problem.

both dev300_m29 and m30 hang when opening a specific ppt document. 2.4.1 opens
the same document just fine.

link to (the presentation is both large 7 semi-confidential).

i'm ready to send the link to somebody interested in testing this.

thanks for the positive response, i'm impressed very glad ;)

maybe a non-obtrusive warning in all cases (both typing in and pasting) would
solve most issues here ?

or maybe non-obtrusive warning for typing, and a popup for pasting, if that can
be detected ?

also, if these changes get introduced, they probably should also be propogated
to the text field, which currently does not have the warning, as opposed to
formatted fields.

ah, my search for 'text was truncated' didn't turn those up.
anyway, i consider that in this case the fix has been worse than the problem it
tried to fix. the problems with this solution :

1. it interrupts user's workflow with the popup dialog (user has to read
close the dialog);
2. this can even result in a minor data loss - suppose somebody is entering
some long number, then hits some other key when at the character limit (and the
field has max value set) - field contents are immediately set to max value, as
soon as the popup is opened;
3. this is inconsistent, as text fields do not produce such a warning.

this popup looks really weird especially on fields that allow single char input
and are appropriately sized...

possible ways to improve it :

1. try to detect pasting (which seems to be the biggest cause of the
disappointment with the old behavior) ? this is done in some places (for
example, irssi), so that warning is only shown when there is actual possibility
that loss of pasted content might go unnoticed;

2. make the warning non-obtrusive - something like oo.org help agent pop-under
or down-sliding warning in firefox (for prevented page popups and other
things). this way user would be properly notified of field limit both when
pasting and when trying to type past the limit, but the workflow would not be
interrupted.

i really believe form fields have become much less convinient to use with this
change, but i won't be pursuing the issue, i'm just pasting my impressions
suggestion for the consideration.
i can report any of them as new issues, or reopen this one for implementation
of particular improvement (like non-obtrusive warning).

when inserting numeric and formatted fields with limited allowed max content
length, attempting to enter another symbol when at the limit pops up a message
: The inserted text exceeded the maximum length of this text field. The text
was truncated.

such a text is not displayed for normal textfields.
this popup serves no hugely useful purpose, interrupts the workflow and makes
user read (or learn to ignore) the popup and close it.

the length should be limited just like it is for plain text field, without any
popups.
