I can't see through the balloon text. Make an information bar at the bottom of the screen where the tips will be sent instead of right next to the mouse where I particularly want to be looking at. I don't think the concern is valid that the user's eyes will need to travel too far across the screen to read the help tips. The information bar will probably need to extend across the entire window to allow maximum space to provide useful feedback to the user--otherwise it really would not be useful. This information bar could also be where you show additional future information other than simply the help tips. An example might be right-click object to show properties, double left-click object to type text. You would use this information bar to provide useful feedback. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Once sample macros on how to do this were in OpenOffice.org, I was offering to help communicate to end users their existence via user forums I assist on such as http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/ and http://www.oooforum.org/forum/ . :-) I think vreid47362 worded it well when he said he wished there was some generic code and wizards to help end-users utilize this code within OO.o somewhere. Side note: My emphasis on the word *right* was because I know some of the code I have borrowed from others to make my documents work were using non-standard calls that were not formally the way to do it and the macros stopped working when I upgraded OO.o. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. What I have done: * Ensured I am supposed to be able to do this by reading documentation. The official xforms information at http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/REC-xforms-20 ... ice11.html says . . . bindings, in particular to the URI scheme 'mailto:' may . . . be supported and confirm that OO.o DOES support it by reading at http://www.idealliance.org/proceedings/ ... deadb.html that . . . [you are able to send] the instance data . . . as a mail attachment . . . * Using a normal form (not an xform) document I was able to use the mailto feature and it worked correctly. * Ensured my OO.o configuration settings are correct in Tools | Options | Internet | Email | Email Program is valid Rational: Because we can not e-mail the instance data, we are left with storing instance data to disk or server. If we choose to disk, then the entire intent in using the XForm is null as it is no longer portable between operating systems because their file system nomenclatures are different. Windows uses C:\... and Unix variants use / If we choose to server, then we are required to setup a server with its resources (hardware, time, efforts, man power, etc.) Steps to reproduce: Open a new XForm File New XML Form Document Ensure form control toolbar is enabled: View Toolbars Form controls Ensure form design toolbar is enabled: View Toolbars Form design Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled: Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon Insert push button form control into form window: Select push button from form control toolbar In form window click and drag to size your push button control Bind push button to submission action In XML data navigator, click :Submissions tab Click the add submission icon with the following properties Name: EmailData Action: mailto:n...@example.com Method: Post Binding Expression: Binding: Replace: Instance Note that the Action and Method settings are the relevant settings to making OpenOffice.org supposedly work. If we enable auto complete, then that will both enhance user experience as well as speed up the form building process. Details: Auto complete (OO.o completes or lists possible completions) in the condition window would be VERY helpful. An example of an auto complete might be if your instance data had two existing nodes called /MainForm/Information/Type and /MainForm/Information/Style where you wanted to write an XPath expression using the first node, OO.o would help. As you typed /MainForm/In OO.o would then provide the completion option, namely, /Information. When and where OO.o might do this is described below. Steps to perform enhancement: Open a new XForm File New XML Form Document Ensure form control toolbar is enabled: View Toolbars Form controls Ensure form design toolbar is enabled: View Toolbars Form design Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled: Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon Populate instance data in XML data navigator Click the instance tab in XML data navigator Highlight the first instance Click to add element or add attribute . . . Add a few . . . Set a condition Highlight the first instance Click to edit element In the window that comes up, select any options under the settings section, say Calculate Checkbox the calculate option and then click the calculate condition button This brings up the add condition window Specify condition and expect OO.o to autocomplete our typings In this window there are two sections: Condition and Result In the Condition section, type /MainForm/In and wait for a few seconds In the Result section of this window I should see my various options such as /Information If I press the tab button on my keyboard, OO.o would complete the entry in the condition window to read /MainForm/Information. As I continue to type an extra slash, /MainForm/Information/, OO.o displays in the Result window /MainForm/Information/Type and /MainForm/Information/Style. As I continue to type an extra S, then OO.o displays in the Result window /Style. If I press the tab button on my keyboard, OO.o would complete the entry in the condition window to read /MainForm/Information/Style. Note: This autocompletion is not a new concept but used in the UNIX shell environment, the Cisco router environment, and other environments. Currently, after selecting the node in the XML data navigator and right-clicking on the node you are offered an option to Insert Control. This option does nothing. One would think it would insert that node into the document form. Notes: What would be nice is that if a quick wizard comes up when they select Insert Control to help the user choose various options before OO.o inserts the form control into the document form. OO.o does not honor that. If the user want read only ALWAYS--REGARDLESS OF ANY CONDITION, then it is required that they enable readonly within the form control. This obliviates the functionality of conditional readonly capabilities of XForms. What if you want it to be read-only only under a certain condition? Go back to the text box properties window and type in a real XPath conditional expression and you will see that it does not follow this condition. To provide an XPath expression example would be totally dependent upon other values on your XML document. However, here is an attempt to provide you with one. If the read-only box XPath function were /SetupForm/ContactInformation/Age = 45 then what the user should expect is that ONLY when the Age node is greater or equal to 45 should THIS box be read-only. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [dba-issues] [Issue 95663] Crash or no issue when cha nging the path of a database in a writer form.
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95663 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Dec 2 17:47:59 + 2008 --- In answering nbrouard's question Is there another way to attach a form (.odt) to a database (.odb): It is my opinion that if you use OO.o to link a database residing on the file system to an external form residing at another location on the file system as you are trying to do, then OO.o *has to* rely on the underlying operating system and file system layout. As you indicated, they are different between machines. It sounds like you are trying to use OO.o base to perform XForm type of stuff; thus, your approach doesn't address what you are trying to accomplish. You want to look into using OO.o and XForms to accomplish what you intend. One possible good writeup is titled XForms and OpenDocument in OpenOffice.org by David Eisenberg on the internet: http://opendocument.xml.org/files/xforms_ooo_06_10_25.pdf Another possible option (if he doesn't need to sync the data between all users) is to build an internal, native form within OO.o database. (I know this is not the support form, and things need to be kept on topic, but in an effort to help and direct nbrouard to the correct location I have mentioned it. If nbrouard wants to pursue this, then he might want to go to one of the many support forms such as http://support.openoffice.org/ for further help.) :-) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. We expected bars to be in the charts. + Fourth, look into why this issue might be happening - Right-click on the report and select to Edit - Double left-click on any of the graphs so you go into edit mode of the graph. - Right-click on the graph and select Chart Data Table - Notice the Y-Values are all zero (as in the screenshot attached to this issue) + What I expected was that the Y-Values have numbers other than zero that would have produces bars such as I saw in my second stage above (during the creation of the report). Instead, I see zeros for the Y-values which produces of course no bars in the chart. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
