I can not reproduce it in the newest stable release (3.1.1). This issue seems
to have been fixed. Thank you!

To help improve the feel and aesthetics, simply round the corners of the frames
a little bit instead of having the 90 degree angles in each of the frames.

Instead of just popping up dialog boxes all of a sudden, have them quickly (so
not to annoy the user by taking too much time) fade in and fade out of the
screen.

Instead of having the frames all of a sudden appear at the right or the left of
the screen, have them slide in from the right or left and then when you are
finished, slide out into the right or the left.

This idea is similar to http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=106652

Currently, the balloon help (whether OO.o/StarOffice is configured for only tips
or extended tips) gets in the way of my project. I can't see through the
balloon text.

Make an information bar at the bottom of the screen where the tips will be sent
instead of right next to the mouse where I particularly want to be looking at.
I don't think the concern is valid that the user's eyes will need to travel too
far across the screen to read the help tips.

The information bar will probably need to extend across the entire window to
allow maximum space to provide useful feedback to the user--otherwise it really
would not be useful.

This information bar could also be where you show additional future information
other than simply the help tips. An example might be right-click object to
show properties, double left-click object to type text. You would use this
information bar to provide useful feedback.

Their are a LOT of options in the each of the toolbar (View | Toolbars) and it
is a bit of a mess. These options could be regrouped in better ways. That
would reduce the amount of initial options. Examples might be

The one main Text toolbar would include Text Object, Standard, and Standard
(Viewing Mode) toolbars

The one main Form toolbar would include Form Controls, Form Design, and Form
Navigation toolbars

The one main Draw toolbar would include Draw and Draw Object Properties toolbars

The one main Media toolbar would include Media Playback, and Picture toolbars

You know, once you have this, then all the main toolbars would fit on the screen
across the top.

Instead of having a dialog box pop up on top of and covering my work, have a
*consistent place* to show a frame/window (maybe off to the side on the right or
the left) for the options (See
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=106652 for how to bring it into
view).
See the attached FrameOptionsExample.png.

Sometimes progressive options need to be chosen (such as a wizard dialog) and
this can still be accomplished with this frame/window. See the attached
WizardExample.png.

I'm certainly no programmer. Once sample macros on how to do this were in
OpenOffice.org, I was offering to help communicate to end users their existence
via user forums I assist on such as
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/ and http://www.oooforum.org/forum/
. :-)

I think vreid47362 worded it well when he said he wished there was some generic
code and wizards to help end-users utilize this code within OO.o somewhere.

Side note: My emphasis on the word *right* was because I know some of the code I
have borrowed from others to make my documents work were using non-standard
calls that were not formally the way to do it and the macros stopped working
when I upgraded OO.o.

From previous communications I understand if licensing agreements allow, that
OO.o development team might take those very good addons and make them part of
the core OO.o product.

vreid47362's comment that this functionality could even be maintained as an
extension might dovetail into those plans. I note, however, that their are
already extensions to do this. Therefore, it might be less work for the
developers if they simply work with the already-existing extensions

For me, the extension at
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/SwitchBoard almost does it
except for the The extension can only be opened from a Registered Base
document. requirement.

Disclosure: I am in no way affiliated with the creator of any extension.

I agree with vreid47362. Tools | Macros | Organize Macros | OpenOffice.org
Basic | OpenOffice.org Macros already contains sample macros. Why not include
some samples of the *right* way to do it in this location? There is no extra
work needed to create yet another container but simply to include the sample
macros here in this location. Then let us do the work of pointing people who
want them to them.

This non-reporting-of-reason-for-problem issue seems to have been fixed for the
3.1 version of OOo. When I duplicate the steps sega_sai specifies I now get an
explanation why it does not work: Primary or unique constraint required on main
table Movie List

Could the reason be because the database has not been previously setup correctly
to allow this without corrupting your data.

Consider searching Google for the phrase primary or unique constraint required
on main table and you will see it is a database design issue--not unique to
OO.o.

Also, http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61t=2972

This is even worse now with OOo version 3.1. OOo now crashes/locks up when ANY
data changes in the instance tree when you are using now() ANYWHERE in your
XForm. Even if you use now() all by itself

Effectively, the standard now() XForm function has become a simple way to crash
OOo and render the entire XForm useless.

I hope we really understand the magnitude of this bug. A user can no longer
even remove the now() funtion from his document if he realizes this is the
problem. Let me say it another way: He can't fix his broken XForms document.
It is toast.

The only way to recovery from this is to unzip the odt file, search for the
now() function in content.xml, delete it or replace it with another XForm
function, zip up the file again, and finally open it in OOo.

Note: OpenOffice was apparently earlier capable of doing this as is mentioned in
Lars Opermann's paper titled Using XForms in Office Applications.

Details: When we create XForms it would be MUCH easier for the user to drag form
controls from the form window into the instance data window. As it stands now,
the user is required to both build the instance data as well as the form
controls in two different steps.

Rational: It takes forever to build any XForm document in OpenOffice because of
the multiple duplication now required.

Steps to reproduce:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Insert form control into form window:
 Select form control from toolbar
In form window click and drag to size your control
Build your instance data from form window controls:
Click and drag the control from the form window into the instance data
window.
This is where it doesn't work and it should either start a wizard to build
the instance data from the properties of the form control or at least drop a
copy of the form control into the instance data window.

Note: It severely limits the functionality of universal OpenOffice XForms with
this capability missing. Here is the history of this defect along with
screenshots
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49t=14874

Details: The mailto: submission capability within an OpenOffice.org XForm does
not work as it claims.

What I have done:
* Ensured I am supposed to be able to do this by reading documentation. The
official xforms information at http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/REC-xforms-20 ...
ice11.html says . . . bindings, in particular to the URI scheme 'mailto:' may .
. . be supported and confirm that OO.o DOES support it by reading at
http://www.idealliance.org/proceedings/ ... deadb.html that . . . [you are able
to send] the instance data . . . as a mail attachment . . .
* Using a normal form (not an xform) document I was able to use the mailto
feature and it worked correctly.
* Ensured my OO.o configuration settings are correct in Tools | Options |
Internet | Email | Email Program is valid

Rational: Because we can not e-mail the instance data, we are left with storing
instance data to disk or server. If we choose to disk, then the entire intent
in using the XForm is null as it is no longer portable between operating systems
because their file system nomenclatures are different. Windows uses C:\... and
Unix variants use / If we choose to server, then we are required to setup a
server with its resources (hardware, time, efforts, man power, etc.)

Steps to reproduce:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Insert push button form control into form window:
Select push button from form control toolbar
In form window click and drag to size your push button control
Bind push button to submission action
In XML data navigator, click :Submissions tab
Click the add submission icon with the following properties
 Name: EmailData
 Action: mailto:n...@example.com
 Method: Post
 Binding Expression:
 Binding:
 Replace: Instance

Note that the Action and Method settings are the relevant settings to
making OpenOffice.org supposedly work. The other settings are relevant to what
the author wants to do.

Rational: As it stands now, it takes a long time to build an XForm document. If
we enable auto complete, then that will both enhance user experience as well as
speed up the form building process.

Details: Auto complete (OO.o completes or lists possible completions) in the
condition window would be VERY helpful. An example of an auto complete might be
if your instance data had two existing nodes called /MainForm/Information/Type
and /MainForm/Information/Style where you wanted to write an XPath expression
using the first node, OO.o would help. As you typed /MainForm/In OO.o would
then provide the completion option, namely, /Information. When and where OO.o
might do this is described below.

Steps to perform enhancement:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Populate instance data in XML data navigator
Click the instance tab in XML data navigator
 Highlight the first instance
Click to add element or add attribute
 . . . Add a few . . .
Set a condition
 Highlight the first instance
 Click to edit element
In the window that comes up, select any options under the settings section,
say Calculate
Checkbox the calculate option and then click the calculate condition button
This brings up the add condition window
Specify condition and expect OO.o to autocomplete our typings
In this window there are two sections: Condition and Result
In the Condition section, type /MainForm/In and wait for a few seconds
In the Result section of this window I should see my various options such
as /Information
If I press the tab button on my keyboard, OO.o would complete the entry in
the condition window to read /MainForm/Information.
As I continue to type an extra slash, /MainForm/Information/, OO.o displays
in the Result window /MainForm/Information/Type and /MainForm/Information/Style.
As I continue to type an extra S, then OO.o displays in the Result window
/Style.
If I press the tab button on my keyboard, OO.o would complete the entry in
the condition window to read /MainForm/Information/Style.

Note: This autocompletion is not a new concept but used in the UNIX shell
environment, the Cisco router environment, and other environments. It is very
helpful.

Details: The XForms option from within the bindings, submission, or instance
tabs to insert a control into the form doesn't work. When the user selects to
insert the control, nothing happens.

Rational: Currently, the user can select the instance tab and click and drag the
nodes from this tab into the form, but that is undocumented. Currently, after
selecting the node in the XML data navigator and right-clicking on the node you
are offered an option to Insert Control. This option does nothing. One would
think it would insert that node into the document form.

Notes: What would be nice is that if a quick wizard comes up when they select
Insert Control to help the user choose various options before OO.o inserts the
form control into the document form. Examples of various options include the
type of control to insert (some of it could be based off any possible data types
specified in the XML data type settings) such as check box, text box, formatted
field, option button, etc.

Steps to show defect:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Try to insert a form control into the document form from XML data navigator
From within XML data navigator, click on instance tab*
In the instance tab is at least one node.
Right-click this node and notice the Insert control option
 Click it
 . . .
Nothing happens. What users might expect is a wizard as discussed above.

* The Insert control option can be seen in instance tab, submissions tab, and
bindings tab. For each tab it does nothing.

Details: The XForms specification as defined by the official WWW Consortium
states When evaluating to true, this model item property indicates that the
XForms Processor should not allow any changes to the bound instance data node
http://www.w3.org/TR/xforms/#model-prop-readOnly . OO.o does not honor that.
If the user want read only ALWAYS--REGARDLESS OF ANY CONDITION, then it is
required that they enable readonly within the form control. This obliviates the
functionality of conditional readonly capabilities of XForms.

Steps to show defect:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Insert a form control into the document form from XML data navigator
From within XML data navigator, click on instance tab
In the instance tab is at least one node
Left click this node and drag it into the form
Select the form control and look at its properties
Right click the form control and select to ungroup
This will ungroup the label field from the text box
Double left click the text box
This brings up a text box properties window that has as the title
Properties: Text box
Specify the readonly setting to this text box
From the text box properties window, click the general tab
Notice the read-only setting is set to No
From the text box properties window, now click the data tab
In the Read-only box type the XPath function true() without the quotes
Notice the read-only setting is now set to Yes
OK, well you can force it to always be readonly this way.
What if you want it to be read-only only under a certain condition?
Go back to the text box properties window and type in a real XPath
conditional expression and you will see that it does not follow this condition.

To provide an XPath expression example would be totally dependent upon other
values on your XML document. However, here is an attempt to provide you with
one. If the read-only box XPath function were
/SetupForm/ContactInformation/Age = 45 then what the user should expect is
that ONLY when the Age node is greater or equal to 45 should THIS box be
read-only.

Details: The now() XPath function works fine by itself in OO.o, but the moment
you try to use it with anything else (such as calculations or other functions),
OO.o either crashes or freezes.

What I have done:
* Tried to use now() with operations such as + and - and OO.o still crashes.
* Tried to use now() with other functions and OO.o still crashes.
* Tried to reference the now() function using XPath nodes and THAT WORKS but is
roundabout.

Rational: OO.o should not need to have one XPath node have the now() value and
require another node to reference that node in order to do any operation. OO.o
should be able to, for example, work with substring(now(), 1, 4) or
days-from-date(now()) or now()-1 or now()+now() without crashing.

Steps to reproduce:
Open a new XForm
 File
 New
 XML Form Document
Ensure form control toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form controls
Ensure form design toolbar is enabled:
 View
 Toolbars
 Form design
Ensure XML Data Navigator window is enabled:
Withing Form design toolbar toggle on XML data navigator using icon
Insert a node using the XML data navigator
In the XML data navigator, click the instance tab
Right-click the instanceData and select to edit element
This brings up the edit element window
Alter the element (also called node) data
From the edit element window go to the Settings section
Select any of the checkboxes in the Settings section, say calculate
 Click the calculate Condition button
Type one of the example above such as now()+now() or choose your own using
the now() function
Poof. . . OO.o is either locked or crashes.

I can also confirm this using OO.o version 3.0. The problem is NOT manifest
when creating a normal document using File | New | Text Document. It IS
manifest when creating labels using File | New | Labels. See attachment
screenshot.

When creating a label, the dragging of the field from the database source works
but the wizard doesn't.

In answering nbrouard's question Is there another way to attach a form (.odt)
to a database (.odb):

It is my opinion that if you use OO.o to link a database residing on the file
system to an external form residing at another location on the file system as
you are trying to do, then OO.o *has to* rely on the underlying operating system
and file system layout. As you indicated, they are different between machines.

It sounds like you are trying to use OO.o base to perform XForm type of stuff;
thus, your approach doesn't address what you are trying to accomplish. You want
to look into using OO.o and XForms to accomplish what you intend. One possible
good writeup is titled XForms and OpenDocument in OpenOffice.org by David
Eisenberg on the internet:
http://opendocument.xml.org/files/xforms_ooo_06_10_25.pdf

Another possible option (if he doesn't need to sync the data between all users)
is to build an internal, native form within OO.o database.

(I know this is not the support form, and things need to be kept on topic, but
in an effort to help and direct nbrouard to the correct location I have
mentioned it. If nbrouard wants to pursue this, then he might want to go to one
of the many support forms such as http://support.openoffice.org/ for further
help.) :-)

More information is needed to go any further.
* Was java installed and what version?
* Was the database registered?
* What were the steps you went through on the Windows XP computer to produce the
error message?
* etc.

With the information you provided it appears Java was not installed or is
corrupted.

[dba-issues] [Issue 96589] Graphs have no y-values wh en report opened

Opps, sorry that I forgot the following steps:

+ First, make it easier to display the needed data in a graph form
  - Open the example database attached to this issue.
  - Open the Queries database object
  - Right-click on Query1 and select to edit it
  - Move the Common Name field to the first column (in front of the Temp
field) by clicking the Common Name field header and dragging it to the first
column.
  - Save and close the query

+ Second, create a report based on the query
  - Right-click on Query1 and select Report (note the SRB should be installed)
  - This brings up the Sun Report Builder
  - Click the Chart icon in the report controls toolbar
  - Click and drag a box in the detail section of the report for the chart
  - In the graph properties, ensure Content type=Query
  - In the graph properties, ensure Content=Query1
  - Notice carefully the graph contains bars the correctly and obviously
correspond to what is expected (namely the values 20, 20, 10, 30)
  - Save the report as Report1

+ Third, notice when you run the report the chart in the report does not reflect
any true data
  - Run the report
  - Notice all the charts are flat lined which is not what is expected. We
expected bars to be in the charts.

+ Fourth, look into why this issue might be happening
  - Right-click on the report and select to Edit
  - Double left-click on any of the graphs so you go into edit mode of the
graph.
  - Right-click on the graph and select Chart Data Table
  - Notice the Y-Values are all zero (as in the screenshot attached to this
issue)

+ What I expected was that the Y-Values have numbers other than zero that would
have produces bars such as I saw in my second stage above (during the creation
of the report). Instead, I see zeros for the Y-values which produces of course
no bars in the chart.

Environment: Sun Report Builder version 1.0.5 and OpenOffice 3.0

Details: While in edit mode of a report the preview of a graph shows the
y-values data from the database correctly. However, when the report is run, the
y-values data in the graph are all zero. It looks like the data is not carried
over into the graph when the report is actually run.

Yes, this problem still exists using the released OO.o version 3.0 under Kubuntu
Linux (Intel 32-bit) as well as the released OO.o version 3.0 under Windows XP.

I have attached screenshots when I go through the steps of pressing the tab key.

There is no text for one of the selection options when the media playback
toolbar is expanded. See screenshot for example.

How to reproduce:
* Open Writer, Calc, anything
* Ensure media playback showing by clicking View | Toolbars | Media Playback
* Expand the media playback content by clicking on the expansion arrow (see
attached screenshot)
* Click Visible Buttons
* Notice that not all options have associated text.
* Note that if you choose Customize toolbar you can really see this omission
without a description as well.

Another workaround is to insert from within Writer an OLE object as such:
Open Writer
Insert | Object | OLE Object
Create New | Drawing | OK
Create your drawing as you will
Click outside the OLE object back in the Writer document

I don't know why helgekraak said this issue can be closed. We still have no
parameter input dialog appearing. Can we resubmit this for another look? I
tested again with OO.o Beta 3.0 and it still is an open issue.

Let me know if I need to include more information. Thanks.
