This problem has now popped up in KNOPPIX 5.

A welcome screen that persistently appears when it should not *IS* a bug and a
very anoying one.

I suspect there is a comparison of the date time stamp of the configuration file
updated with the date time stamp of an installed file ie if date/time =
date/time of other file then show welcome.

If the clock is only minutes or even hours behind then the problem can
'mysteriously' disapear. In my case, being 2 years behind, it would probably
never disapear.

I've seen lots of reports of this happening for Win 98 users, but no one seems
to have been able to reproduce it. I got it too.

On some installs to Win 98, the Welcome/Registration screen keeps reappearing.

I tried deleting files and reinstalling etc, to no avail.

However this particular machine had it's clock set 2 years behind (2004 instead
of 2006). When I reset the clock to 2006, the problem went away. I admit, I also
created a document, so it's possible that may have triggered something too.

The main aim of posting this issue is for someone to be able to confirm that the
clock is the issue and then perhaps have some hope of tracking down the cause.

When I visited the website with a view to submit a file which cannot be opened
properly. This was no where near as simple as it should be.

1. There is no (obvious) 'report a problem' type of link.

2. The default Issue tracker screen seems too intimidating. I think it needs to
focus more on tasks rather than the query being the 'main thing' and the query
needs a simple (default) and advanced format.

I went to the 'My Start Page' again and there is a link labeled 'File issue'!

Point 1 still stands though.

As for point 2. Although initially there is a simple link, as you move around
the menus on the left change without an obvious way back.
I think I must have moved around and ended somewhere where the only link to
issues is this all encompasing one.
I don't know how hard it would be, but it seems a collapsing heirarchial menu
would be less confusing.
