On Windows ME and from version 2.4 onwards, if I import a Presentation created
in PowerPoint and view it, the text is no longer in the correct position. Most
of it is diplayed out of the slide - either above the slide or below it so that
the text is not visible.

This does not occur in 2.3.1 rc1 on Windows ME.

This is not a problem on Windows 2000 Professional using OOo 2.4.1 RC2 running
on the same machine. It's just a Windows ME problem. I'm using an Nvidia
GeForce 6600 GT graphics card.

If you want a sample PowerPoint file, use the one I submitted for Issue 46463.

I've just re-tested the bug on the same platform, Windows ME (no other platform
displayed the bug) and I can view the complete slide show. I downloaded and
installed :-

OOo_2.0.2rc4_060227_Win32Intel_install.exe

followed by

OOo_2.0.2rc4_060227_Win32Intel_langpack_en-GB.exe

so it appears to fixed!

Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure what you mean by header. Originally, it was
reported as as an Writer installation crash (OO 1.979) which I then realised
had happened because Impress had previously crashed.

I first reported it in on 1st April 2004, but it was no April fool's joke!!!

The email address I registered with was

FYI, when I first reported it, it crashed on slide 4 only (1.979), and then in
a later beta it started crashing on slide 3. I have tested it on 1.1.5 and it
is fine. I have recently upgraded to Sempron system and it crashes in crashrep
as you have found.

To repeat this problem ONLY occurs on my Windows ME installation. I have
Windows 2000 running on the same machine and it works fine. I have reinstalled
Me and I still get the same problem. No problems with oo 1.1.4.

THB - I've retested the problem with m118 and I still get a BSOD at 0E: 0028:
C0058739 when viewing the slide show of the MS PowerPoint. Windows recovers
after the crash. This problem does not occur using Oo 1.1.4.

Hello,

Yes this is still a reproducible problem. I'm using an AOpen Aeolus MX440 8X
which uses an Nvidia chipset. I'm using R56.55 of the drivers as these default
to the correct refresh rate of 60Hz whereas the others don't. I have tried all
the other newer drivers for Windows ME available from Aopen's website :-

http://download.aopen.com.tw/default.aspx?sDropDownModel=Aeolus%20MX440%
208XDropDownWebsite=GL

, but I still get the crash in Impress.

Unfortunately, I can't try the latest beta version m113 because this does not
install on 98/ME - known bug - 51377, but I'd happy to try m114 when it comes
it out or if you can let me have access to it.

In fact, I've been testing every beta version that has come out out since I
reported this bug, and I machine still crashes when viewing the PowerPoint that
I've uploaded. In fact, the problem now occurs before the final picture slide -
it crashes when displaying some text in newer releases.

Over a month ago, I had to change my motherboard - everything else has remained
the same. Now when Impress crashes, instead of getting a Windows error in a
DLL, I get a BSOD 0E 28.

Incidentally, I can run m109 on my Windows 98SE laptop fine and view that
PowerPoint, but it has a different graphics chipset.

Happy to do any further testing - I'm a Windows developer.

I can consistently reproduce the bug on Windows ME using OO 2 beta - 1.979, but
this bug doesn't occur in 1.1.4. On Windows 2000, it's fine with 00 2 beta. If
you can't reproduce the bug on ME with all patches installed apart from
KB891711, I must assume that there is something wrong with my installation -
perhaps the graphics card drivers. I've tested the memory using Memtest and
it's fine. Everything else seems to work fine on my Windows ME partition.

WG - to summarise: If I try an view the slide show, it crashes on the last
slide on Windows ME, but not on 2000 (separate installations). The first error
message says that CRASHREP has caused an error in Kernel32.dll and the second
in SD680MI.DLL. The slide in question has a 'Wipe Down' transition.

If I install OO 1.979 and the run writer, it crashes just before dialog appears
that sets up defaults. I get a fatal crash in kernel32.dll followed by a crash
report from cppuhelper3MSC.dll, but none of the usual extra information that
accompanies a crash dialog. This is an an easy to reproduce error.

If I run OO 1.979 on my Windows 2000 professional partition on the same machine
its fine, and Memtest does not report any defects in my system memory. I'm
running a 1.4Ghz Tualatin CPU i.e. 256K cache so really a P3, overclocked by
12%, but everything else runs fine on it.

Version 1.1.4 works fine on my Windows ME partition.

I also sent an error via the report tool on 02/03/2005 04:20 (your time), OO
1.979 crashed whilst trying open a Powerpoit presentation. again it works fine
on Windows 2000 Professinal, and also in 1.1.4 on Windows ME.

I've attached screen shots of the crash.

I decided to run my computer not overclocked, and the same error occurs.

Then I decided to disable AVG via MSConfig - vxd's and startup - still the same
crash.

To try and eliminate other software conflicts, I ran Windows in safe mode, and
still the same problem when I try and run writer.

Will supply e-mail address if needed.

Regards,

Zul

I started the spreadsheet and it came up with a dialog asking me if I wanted to
recover the PowerPoint file that had previously caused the program to crash. I
clicked cancel and I could start Calc. After this I could also start writer
and I also tried drawing whch was fine.

I then tried reporducing the bug by opening up the PowerPoint file. Impress
managed to import it, but when I view the slide show it crashes on one of the
slides where I used the transition 'Wipe Down'. Soffice crashed in
SD680MI.DLL, so really the cause of all this appears to be in Impress.

After the crash, I can still start writer. However before, I ran Impress
before writer had initialised for the first time.

If I recover the file, and 'Show Report' - it's blank.

Yes, writer no longer crashes when I start it up.

I have separate installations on my two partitions. I know enough about
software not to do that. My gues is the writer would not start becuase it
trying to recover the crashed PowerPoint file and then couldn't. However after
writer initialised for the first time, it was O.K.

I have done complete uninstalls and reinstalls on my ME partition, but crash
persists in Impress when view an MS Powerpoint presentation when it gets to the
slide that ahs a 'Wipe Down' transition. Can you reproduce that at your end on
ME?

I have the latest grphics driver for my video card. I always keep my drivers
up to date.

I have an Aeolus MX440 8X and I'm using version R61.72 of the drivers for ME.
