Dan,

I would invite you to come over to the www.OOoForum.org site. There you will
find plenty of help with both getting started basic macros and this function in
specific.

If it will take a macro to get Date to show today's date, what would that
macro be? (I have not idea how to write a macro, and there may be others who
might want this functionality that do not know either.)

I created a embedded database with OOo 2.0.3 which includes a date field.
When I add a new record to the form, today's date is automatically added to the
date field when using OOo 2.0.3. When I open the same database file with 2.0.4
RC1 and add a new record, the date field remains blank. Since a date is required
for this field, I have to manually add today's date before I can save the
current record.

This is by design, see
http://dba.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=featuresmsgNo=199

Previously, *a lot* of users complained that they had to write macros to change
this behaviour, since more often than not, today is not the proper default,
anyway.
So we decided that it's better to have the people who want today writing a
macro, than the (much more) who don't.
