IMO, we should implement this for at least HSQLDB, which is our default DB
engine.

Great news! I was only thinking of being put right for HSQLDB. Most other
databases should have their own native ways of editing views. However, in
theory, it shouldn't matter as the process should always be the same. 1) Query
the database schema to acquire the view definition - this should be a CREATE
VIEW statement. 2) Load this into the Design view dialog. 3) Save changes back
with a DROP VIEW and a CREATE VIEW for the new definition. But I'm sure there
is a big gulf between theory and practice. I see, for instance, that HSQLDB
holds the view definitions in a pure text Script file while query definitions
are in the contents.xml file. So best of luck! People like me with minimal
coding ability really appreciate what you are doing.

Now my issue 78050 has been closed and merged with this I have to back
moorsider's assertion that this is a DEFECT, not an ENHANCEMENT. There can be no
defence that it cannot be done, as it is being done for queries. A view is
essentially the same animal as a query. It is defined by an a SQL statement that
can be represented by a Design view in just the same way. MS Access does just
that and allows you to change views in Design view or by editing its underlying
SQL statement.

This problem should have been fixed long ago. All issues raised on this topic
have called it a DEFECT.

The facility to edit a view is still an enhancement, as its a feature which is
currently not available, and not designed to be available.

The fact that you can choose Edit when a view is selected could be considerd a
bug, since there's no backend support for editing views. However, the immediate
fix for this bug would be to disable the Edit in this case (or name it Show
structure or whatever), but *not* to implement editable views.

Well, the point of a view is: It's a query which can be used like a table.
So, if you could use queries in queries, this would be views :)

Nonetheless, it might be desirable to edit a view's design later on,
unfortunately, this is barely supported by the databases ...
