As to Issue 92782 problems still exist. I considered second attached document
(i92782.odb). When using drag and drop for creating relations:
1.'n', showing one-to-many on second relation is missing (see attachment
i92782_1),
2.after saving and reopening relationships, only the first relation appears,
but second is lost.

While using 'Insert-New Relation' trying to create two relations
simultaneously causes error (see attachment i92782_2). And when creating two
relations separately using 'Insert-New Relation' twice everything is 'OK' -
after saving and reopening relationships both relations exist and one-to-many
attributes '1 - n' appears.

fs-gld199: Once the CWS dba31d is integrated (you can monitor this here:

new developer snapshot becomes available containing the fix, I encourage you to
verify your problems are fixed indeed. I think they are, but since this issue
has a ... complex history, I like to be sure ... Thanks.

FYI - assuming I am following this correctly.

Using OOO300 m_3 under Linux today I can do all that is described and have it
saved WHEN I use the mouse to drag and drop the fields to the tables in the
relation designer.

It is only when I call the relation dialog from the menu that the new relations
seem to be lost.

atjensen, I see what you mean. I can actually get it to work one way now you've
pointed it out.

The following all use fs's attachment.

Works:
- open the document
- Tools / Relationships ...
- click on ID in the Right table, drag and drop to ID2 in the Left table
- in the dialogue This relation already exists, select Create...
= relations dialogue appears
- check that the pre-filled fields are correct (ID2-Left and ID-Right)
- close the relations dialogue with OK
= both relationships are shown
- save
- close the Relationships window
- Tools / Relationships ...
= both relationships are still shown

Doesn't work (1) (fs's example)
- open the document
- Tools / Relationships ...
- Insert / New Relation ...
- in the Relations dialog
  - set Tables involved to left and right
  - set Fields involved to ID1-ID and ID2-ID, this way creating one
relation between left and right, which connects left.ID1 with right.ID and
left.ID2 with right.ID.
- close the Relations dialog with OK
= the new relation appears in the relation design
- save and close the relation design
- Tools / Relationships
= the newly created relation is gone

Doesn't work (2)
- open the document
- Tools / Relationships ...

either:
- click on ID in the Right table, drag and drop to ID2 in the Left table
- in the dialogue This relation already exists, select Edit...

or:
- right-click on the line representing the existing relationship
- select Edit

then:
= relations dialogue appears
= notice that the pre-filled fields show the existing relationship (ID1-Left
and ID-Right)
- on the line underneath the existing relationship select ID2-Left and
ID-Right
- close the relations dialogue with OK
= the new relation appears in the relation design
= notice that the Save icon is still greyed out, as is Save in the File
menu
- close without saving
= NO prompt The relationship design has been changed. Do you want to save the
changes?
= new relationship is lost

Doesn't work (3) (same as fs's example but first deleting pre-existing
relationship to start with a clean slate)

- open the document
- Tools / Relationships ...
- right-click the existing relationship line
   - select Delete
= no relationships show
- Insert / New Relation
- in the Relations dialogue
  - set Tables involved to left and right
  - set Fields involved to ID1-ID and ID2-ID, this way creating one
relation between left and right, which connects left.ID1 with right.ID and
left.ID2 with right.ID.
- close the Relations dialog with OK
= the new relation appears in the relation design (two lines join tables)
- save and close the relation design
- Tools / Relationships
= the newly created relation is gone (no lines join tables: i.e. I had imagined
it was saving the first listed relationship and discarding the second, but when
two brand new relationships are added together in this way, neither is saved)

---

I have a feeling I have mixed up the terminology again wrt
 - one relationship of two parts between two tables
 - two separate relationships between two tables
... but I hope I made myself understood anyway?

Okay, I see multiple problems here. For one, we seem to have a problem with
terminology, then there are multiple bugs in our relation designer UI. I will
submit separate issues for separate bugs.

First, for the terminology.
There's a difference between having *two* relationships between two given
tables, each including *one* field from every table, and having *one*
relationship between the two tables, which includes *two* fields from every
table.

For instance, consider the tables 2-in-1s and Anthologies in the bugdoc
database. Both have fields called 1AuthorID and 2AuthorID.

We could set up two different scenarios:
- *one* relationship:
We could create a single relationship, which connects 1AuthorID from
2-in-1s
with 1AuthorID from Anthologies, *plus* connects 2AuthorID from
2-in-1s
  with 2AuthorID from Anthologies.
- *two* relationships
We could create *one* relationship which connects the two 1AuthorID fields,
and *another* which connects the two 2AuthorID fields.

(Let's not talk about how senseless such relationships might be, this is just an
example here).

Technically, both scenarios are different, and this is important to understand.

Unfortunately, the UI makes it easy to get confused, plus the aforementioned
bugs ...

I will go to submit the different sub-bugs I found, and then proceed with this
issue here.

Ah ... now that I played more with it ...
I planned to submit all follow-up issues separately, and ask here whether they
address this problem here adequately. Simply because I was not sure I understood
the problem in this issue here completely.

However, I think I found what the original submitter means. Going to attach a
simplified bug doc with a step-by-step description.

For completeness:

- I also submitted issue 93020, since I think the effect described therein also
contributes to the confusion between one relation with 2 fields and two
  relations with one field.

- With another database setup, I was actually able to create multiple relations
between two tables, I am uncertain what is so special about the given sample
database(s) that it doesn't work there

fs, thank you very much for the work you're putting in here.

I will re-read your explanations a few times and play with your test docs too to
see if I can *get* the way you've split the issue apart. I've never used
database software before the week I spent playing with Base, so I only half
understand what it's for and what it should be able to do. (As you might be able
to tell!)

I am still in awe of the fact that Open Source software exists and just how many
people have come together to make this all happen.

I have a database with several tables. If I go to Tools--Relationships, I can
set single (1-n) relationships between tables with no issues.

I can (since upgrading from 2.3 to 2.4) set multiple 1 to many relationships
(either through trying to drag and drop a second relationship, clicking edit on
the resulting error dialogue box; or by double clicking the relationships line).
I can get multiple relationships to appear (I see a new line for each new
relationship), however when I save and exit Relationships it discards all but
the first listed relationship between any two tables.

Even immediately after setting up these multiple relationships, I am able to add
invalid data into all but one field in my table without getting an error
message. Sure enough, if I go back into Relationships, all the extra lines have
disappeared and only one relationship per pair of tables is listed in the
Relations editing window.

[I can't see how to add an attachment otherwise I'd upload an example. I don't
know what the difference is between OOo 2.4.1/RC1/RC2]
