RedHat yum update will replace
 openoffice.org-ure-1.5.1-9420.i586 (from OOO310_m19_native_packed-1_en-US.9420)
with
 openoffice.org-ure.i586 1:3.1.1-19.2.fc11

When updated, OpenOffice no longer works:

/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries:
libuno_sal.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libuno_sal.so.3 still exists:

  /usr/lib/openoffice.org/ure/lib/libuno_sal.so.3

Work around: Uninstall OpenOffice (rpm -e), re-install, don't yum update
openoffice.org-ure!

cd .../Download/OOO310_m19_native_packed-1_en-US.9420/RPMS

rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep openoffice | grep -v openoffice.org-ure`
rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep ooobasis3`
rpm -e jre-1.6.0_16-fcs.i586
rpm -e openoffice.org-ure-3.1.1-19.2.fc11.i586

rpm -Uvih *rpm
cd desktop-integration/
rpm -Uvih openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-3.1-9420.noarch.rpm

Now libuno_sal.so.3 is in the right place:

/opt/openoffice.org/ure/lib/libuno_sal.so.3

All better!

Can someone at OpenOffice please work with RedHat?

I reported this to Redhat (Bug 488297). Still present as of 10/12/2009:

Encountered the same problem on IBM Lenova T61, F11. Updating
openoffice.org-ure broke Open Office. Work-around - remove Open Office and
re-install. I've been avoiding the openoffice.org-ure update in yum:

 Package Arch Version RepositorySize

Updating:
 openoffice.org-ure i586 1:3.1.1-19.2.fc11 updates 3.1 M

Will this be fixed? Will the fix be made known? Trying agin is painful.

dtardon-rwclaggett: just put

exclude=openoffice.org*

into /etc/yum.conf and Fedora's openoffice.org* packages will not be considered
for update anymore.

The only real way to fix this would be something like

a) Sun uses epoch on their rpms to make them higher that our ones which avoids
Fedora rpms replacing the Sun ones as the Sun ones would then be higher
versioned
b) We then rename our ure rpm to something else and have it provides/obsoletes
our current ure's nvr, so that higher nvr Fedora rpms can replace older Fedora
ones but not Sun ones.
