Each module/project has its own resource manager and cannot (without a lot of extra work on the part of the developer) use strings from other modules. Therefore it only makes sense to delete redundant strings within the same module, even better: within the same file. I agree that a consistent formulation would be nice. The file already exists, overwrite? would be the one to deprecate as it is not the most lovely English. However, as the 14 existing UI strings (6 of which match your 2nd example) with Overwrite? at the end of them are all already localized, I do not see that they are worth incurring costs to change. (both for changing the source language and triggering l10n in 50 languages) The 14 strings I found are in 8 different modules, therein 13 different files. Not much that can be reused there anyway and almost no benefit to the user. According to the writing style rules I wrote, all new messages should propagate the better form The file already exists.
