I am seeing this problem on 2.3.1 on Windows XP. soffice.bin and lsass.exe take
up 100% of CPU.

I let my system run overnight but no change. I could not use OO - had to kill
the process.

I get this problem whenever I open a Visio object and do a copy of a large
bitmap and then try to close Visio. It is totally repeatable on my machine.

Please update version to 2.3.1

Why did no one reopen this issue, like I asked? Here is the promised stack
trace. I've also got a memory dump if you want it.

Note: the only reason it didn't grab 100% CPU time was because some other
processes were running with a higher priority. It is at this point grabbing
all the CPU time it can get; several things don't work anymore (autocompletion
in e.g. the Windows run dialog) or very slowly because they're starved for CPU
time.

Your information is pretty outdated. Can you reproduce with a newer version? OOo
2.3 is close to be released so no developer would spend to much time for OOo
2.1. Nevertheless I've CCed a someone who might have a look.

I'm going to re-open this issue...

I apologize for the hiatus...i haven't been around for a while...

I've noticed that 2.2 is beginning to cause the same problems...i'll have to
investigate further but here's what i've noticed so far:

when i am running Windows in Parallels, the issue seems more prevalent, and, in
fact, it seems to be the only time it happens, though not to the degree of
hogging that i had seen with 2.0, only about 70-80% of the CPU is used (leaving
20% free, unlike the total 100% as seen before)

However, when running windows in Boot Camp, i have yet to see this issue to the
same degree, i only hit around 30% (so far).

Like i said, i'll need to first:

upgrade to 2.3
recreate it (it's not as frequent) - both in Boot camp and Parallels
get a stack trace or otherwise see some evidence of oo.o mucking it up.
re-post here.

Parallels uses a completely different hardware configuration from Boot Camp, so
that may be part of the issue. we'll see...

Confirmed this issue. For me it usually occurs when it has been running idle
for a long period of time, or if I have used the sleep mode of the computer
(so that it has effectively been running for a long time). But it also
sometimes suddenly starts to do this on a freshly booted computer; since I
don't know what causes it, to me it appears rather unpredictable.

How to reproduce: leave your computer running for a long time. Note that at
some point your computer becomes slow as tar and things like explorer's
autocomplete stop working and your music starts to skip. Notice how the CPU
usage sits at 100%, sometimes dropping to 99%. Now suspend soffice.bin. Notice
how the CPU usage droppes to a few percent, depending on what you were doing
of course. Now resume soffice.bin. Notice that CPU usage sits at 100% again.
The ratio lsass / soffice is about 60% / 40% for me, but the basic symptom is
the same.

P.S. Can someone please reopen this issue? This is not a worksforme anymore,
since it has been reported by sever people now. Since I've got some actual
work to do with my PC I've killed soffice.bin, but next time the problem
occurs I'll try to break in with a debugger and send you a stack trace (if
possible).

My OOo 2.2 shows the same problem. Happens several times a day, often when
copy-pasting content from Adobe apps into Impress.

Note: this situation completely freezes OOo and all unsaved work is wiped
(recovery does get triggered on restart but brings up the last saved version).

(It's been 10 minutes alreday, but I'm now waiting to see if it eventually does
recover as I've got 2h of work that will be wiped if I kill it now, will comment
again tomorrow morning if it does come unstuck after several hours.)

deviros,
it does not happen to me when OO is idle.
Resolving as WFM.
Please upgrade to soon to be released 2.2 and see it you still experience the
problem.

Though, you are right - sometimes soffice.bin can cause lsass.exe to consume a
lot of CPU cycles.
