Dialogs like this are presented all too often and lead to the automatic behaviour of pressing 'Ok'... Furthermore, I believe the option 'automatic file name extension' is being remembered' over multiple sessions (can't confirm now since I think the ubuntu build is using a different dialog if I'm not mistaken (can't find the checkbox anywhere here...)), so once this setting has been changed, it's only a matter of pressing ok to overwrite... and overwriting pdf files is something I personally do a lot ("document_latest.pdf"). So it is a true habit to press ok when overwriting. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. At this point, the user should be sure of what he does and what he wants. The user confirmed the data loss ! This canĀ“t be seen as a defect. If one deletes a file using MS-Explorer, he is also just asked once if he surely wants to delete this file... confirming this question with yes leads to a wanted loss of data. -> invalid - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Of course it doesn't do this just yet- Expected behaviour: OOo should disallow saving in a different file format to the current file. Maybe simply by saying: "This file is in use" Instead of returning an error, OOo could also force the addition of the default extension for this file format. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74621 Issue #|74621 Summary|"Save as"/Export allows for saving over current file i |n a different file format Component|framework Version|OOo 2.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|tm Reported by|murb --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Feb 17 12:59:22 + 2007 --- I have tried this both using Impress and Writer in both Save as and Export (PDF), and I believe it is a general issue. It is possible using the save as/export dialogs to overwrite the file currently opened. This is not a problem if you are working on the same format, but it is a problem if you overwrite this document with e.g. PDF, or another less flexible format. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new document 2. Draw/write/do something 3. Save it, e.g. "test.odt" 4. Export it/Save as, e.g. In PDF format with filename "test.odt" * 5. There is now no longer a file on the harddrive in the original format. Closing OOo leads to loss of this data. Expected behaviour: OOo disallows saving in a different file format on the current file. Maybe simply by saying: "This file is in use" Reproducability: Always * If you start typing "te" the name of the current document is being recommended, this makes this is how I discovered this issue myself. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
