Note that OOo 3.0 was the first serious shot for Mac OS. So since OOo 3.0 Beta, many things have changed for the better. Maybe the thing you ran into is not reproducible anymore. I can not tell for sure, that is for sure :-) At times, we have OOo 3.1 Release candidate available. Please use it. The crashes have occurred in Impress and Writer. Impress has failed twice when using Master Pages and Templates, both in an existing document and while trying to create a new one.
