You really want to force all kinds of people who just want help but don't want/need to search in it to force this + openoffice.org- java-common + a JRE? The openoffice.org dummy package does depend on liblucene2-java, so people who apt-get install openoffice.org *do* get lucene. I just do not want to have it as strict dependency on -help-* (I recommend it thoug - see http://packages.debian.org/experimental/openoffice.org-help-de - and on default installs recommends are treated like depends) 2. For wiki-publisher the situation is a bit different; it depends on Java stuff anyway. But the point of 1. still applies. Why should you need to force liblucene2-java and its deps on people who don't need it? Especially as the person wants to install the extension, not necessarily the help :) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Developing in Windows is not help- ful here as you never see stdout. :-( Anyway, easy to fix. Next point: I see your problem, a system without Lucene still should be able to install extensions containing help. Pre-indexing is not so nice as it makes search support for extension help much more difficult for extension developers. Now they don't have to care at all, otherwise they would have to deal with the OOo build environment, makefiles etc. On the other hand I don't see the benefit of pre-indexing, as at runtime the search would fail anyway without Lucene. So what do you think about silently ignoring a No-Lucene situation when deploying an extension. A little bit hacky, but I think acceptable as this does not hide errors in the help content itself. The situation afterwards would be the same as for the Office in general: Extension works and has help, but help cannot be searched. What do you think concerning the target? Do you consider this to be a 3.1 showstopper? The fix should be easy, but we would have to discuss this with mh. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Developing in Windows is not help- ful here as you never see stdout. :-( Anyway, easy to fix. Yes, use Linux ;-) Pre-indexing is not so nice as it makes search support for extension help much more difficult for extension developers. Now they don't have to care at all, otherwise they would have to deal with the OOo build environment, makefiles etc. I don't really think we should deal easiness for development with a technical better solution, but... On the other hand I don't see the benefit of pre-indexing, as at runtime the search would fail anyway without Lucene. Correct, but if they have lucene2 installed (I *do* have lucene, just not depended on by -help-* or -wiki-publisher but the openoffice.org metapackage, and anyone can install it. When it's installed search works because it's pre-indexed and just the missing piece was lucene) So what do you think about silently ignoring a No-Lucene situation when deploying an extension. A little bit hacky, but I think acceptable as this does not hide errors in the help content itself. The situation afterwards would be the same as for the Office in general: Extension works and has help, but help cannot be searched. As I said above, the situation would be different. For the office, the searching just will work if you install liblucene2-java. For the extension case it won't - unless you deregister/register the extension again (means: re-install/install the package) What do you think concerning the target? Do you consider this to be a 3.1 showstopper? The fix should be easy, but we would have to discuss this with mh. Yes, I do. :) Regards, Rene - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=98680 Issue #|98680 Summary|help indexing on install of extensions considered harm |ful Component|framework Version|DEV300m39 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|ab Reported by|rene --- Additional comments from r...@openoffice.org Sat Jan 31 12:17:56 + 2009 --- [ seen in m40, but the dropdown doesn't have it yet ] Hi, In my packaging, I use system-lucene, like any other library where this is possible. Only the openoffice.org metspackage depends on it, the help-* packages only recommend it. Rationale for this is that I don't want to force everyone to install it + its dependencies (see http://packages.debian.org/sid/liblucene2-java). Since the indexing of the normal help is done *on the build* not having liblucene2-java (and thus lucene.jar) present disables the searching in the help. Now, I updated my packges to m40 and tried to install the wiki publisher extension $ sudo dpkg -i openoffice.org-wiki-publisher_1.0+OOo3.1.0~dev300m40-0.1pre_all.deb (Lese Datenbank ... 261578 Dateien und Verzeichnisse sind derzeit installiert.) Removing extension com.sun.wiki-publisher... done. Entpacke Ersatz für openoffice.org-wiki-publisher ... Richte openoffice.org-wiki-publisher ein (1.0+OOo3.1.0~dev300m40-0.1pre) ... Indexing, adding files . Optimizing ... 369 total milliseconds [...] done. Besides that it clobbers the output of unopkg add(!), this is harmful, because: let's look now what happens without lucene: $ sudo dpkg -i openoffice.org-wiki-publisher_1.0+OOo3.1.0~dev300m40-0.1pre_all.deb Wähle vormals abgewähltes Paket openoffice.org-wiki-publisher. Adding extension /usr/lib/openoffice/share/extension/install/wiki-publisher.oxt...An error occurred while enabling: help done. I don't want to make -wiki-publisher depend on lucene... Can't the help of the wiki publisher (or any extension later) be pre-indexed in the build like the normal help? And unopkg doing no business with it So that the install would not break without lucene2? Regards, Rene - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
