When the user adds a 3D shape he adds a transparent object. Before AA it was more in the sense of a 'masked' object since the BitmapEx with the rendered 3D scene (as long as no transparent 3D objects were used) was more a mask. With AntiAliasing, it HAS to be a really transparent object, since the AntiLiasing between 3D object bounds and the background can only be done by using an AlphaMask in the used BitmapEx. I do not think that AntiAliasing should be removed again to solve this (even then the problem occurs when using transparent 3D objects). Thus: When the user adds 3D shapes, he adds a transparent object. This is not different for charts. They may create their own background, but that's a 2D object behind the 3D scene. Latest when a transparent 3D obect s used in a 3D chart the problem will reoccur. So, what should be done here at all ?!? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. You (the OOchart team) made big efforts to make OO-charts a alternative for ExelCharts. I convinced our compagny to move to OO, but we still need to produce our charts in a professional printing-postscript envoriment where Tranparencies are forbidden. We have no choise and on the otherhand it makes all the work you puted in 3D useless for all professional users who neeeds to have printouts in aPostscript envoriment. Please have a look on how they did it in Ms-exel to produce 3D charts without Transparencies. Make it at least a option to have the choise Thanks - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107319 --- Additional comments from a...@openoffice.org Tue Dec 1 16:09:39 + 2009 --- AW-sos: I see nothing what keeps You from producing your charts in a professional printing-postscript envoriment where Tranparencies are forbidden. This is exactly what the 'automatic mix' of transparent objects in the PDF export does. It just warns You in case something happened what reduced Your quality. This is not the case here as long as there is no graphic (e.g. text) 'behind' the chart which would be rendered as bitmap information. This does not reduce the quality since with non-transparent charts nothing 'behind' the charts could be visible anyways (also no page color, so our solution is even better when looking at th example document). The difference to our big competitor is that they use only 'fake' 3D, not real 3D like us. The advantage is that they have (many, many, but only) 2D objects. The disadvantage is that it's no real 3D, so they get no real 3D lighting (only one light possible, lighting 'faked' by gradients) and cannot have 3D objects which interpenetrate themselves (not used in charts, but in 3D scenes). All in all the warning is correct (there is a 3D object), but the solution produced in the PDF is correct, too. On the other hand a user can create the wanted PDF without transparency by choosing the option PDF/A-1a and simply ignoring the warning about the removed transparencies within the upcoming version OOo 3.2. I agree that this issue was a big problem in OOo 3.1 where the behavior is different, but isn't the functionality provided in OOo 3.2 sufficient? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This transparency leads to problems when exporting to PDF with option PDF/A-1a. In version OOo 3.1.1 the transparency was converted to a black area. This problem is solved with ooo320m6 where the background color is used instead. But still a warning message comes up during export that irritates the user. Maybe a rectangle without filling could be used instead of the transparent one? I'll attach an example document to reproduce the problem. It contains different types of 3D scenes - a chart, an extruded custom shape and a 3D ellipse shape. All have the same problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This has not changed with primitives (or in the last years) and was always the case. This is how e.g. a 3D sphere does not overlap as a big rectangle objects behind the scene (what would be an error). I also miss how to export to PDF as PDF/A-1a, i could not find that option in the first try. Thus, i have some questions: (1) How is a PDF exported as 'PDF/A-1a'? (2) What is intended/what is the error occurring with this task? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
