Hello,

many people are angry because old bugs are not addressed. The opinion shared by
a lot of people around me is that OO is bloated and buggy... nevertheless it is
pretty useful ! (and I would not be able to program such a thing in a better way
in my lifetime...)

In this case, I wonder if the problem is just be that bh is not working any
more on OO.

For example, in issue 29989 (which is also assigned to bh) I signaled two times
that it is a duplicate of this one. It would be very quick to mark issue 29989
as a duplicate of 22309. However, it has not been done. As a consequence, I
think that bh is not active in OO any more. But I don't know how to be sure of
this.

I have OOo version 3.1 and still no changes...

Really, it is very strange that there is no such possibility.

Actually, it isn't strange at all. The OOo designers seem to have mindlessly
replicated most of the deficiencies of Microsoft Office.

Another year has passed with no action on this. I'd would still love to see a
solution, a practical workaround, or some guidance as to how I can implement a
fix myself.

It should be possible to insert an equation anywhere in a line and have it
behave like a very wide symbol, e.g., if text is inserted to the left of
the equation, the equation should automatically shift to the right, and any
text to the right of it should also shift, wrapping to the next line if
necessary. When an equation is inserted into a presentation slide, the
reasonable default behavior is that of an inline object, although it makes
sense to also allow users to create floating equations. I'd also like to
see automatic numbering of equations.

Although it would require minimal effort to convert PowerPoint into
something that meets the needs of scientists, mathematicians, and
engineers, Microsoft has never had the slightest interest in doing this.
There is no need for OOo to adopt the same attitude. In fact, improved
support for mathematics in presentations would be an excellent way for OOo
to distinguish itself from the Evil Empire.

Copying rdanse's idea, I'm also willing to donate $50 to the development
team if a solution to this problem can be implemented and released by the
end of 2008.

Why does this still has not target milestone?

Like the last comment says: this problem makes it impossible to use it for
scientific presentations with a lot of formulas.

Please give it a soon target milestone or give us a pointer how to fix it
ourselves.

I take it that no one is working on this feature. I am trying to use Impress
to make lecture notes for engineering courses, and being able to anchor
a formula in a textbox would certainly make alot of sense. It is crippling not
having this feature for any real mathematical presentation.

I'm also willing to donate for this issue.

Or can someone give a outline how to implement it (for someone with good
programming knowledge but no OO). Then I would do it myself.
