In my mind you are looking for the time field.
- Insert / Fields / Time (variable)
Unfortunately it is with seconds.
If you want to see the time on each slide you can inser it on the Slide master.
- View / Master /Slide master
Please tell me if this is what you are looking for.

I would like OOImpress to let me see the current time of day while it is in
Slide Show mode. Just in hh:mm format, no seconds.

(Many other people want this feature too in their own presentation software -
see http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00081.htm for some examples)

I suggest this:

* By default, the clock would be in auto-hide mode. To see it, you would
point the mouse to the bottom-right corner of the screen, and the clock would
appear in the corner.
* Or, you could set it to always-show or always-hide mode instead via some
preferences dialog or by right-clicking while the slide show was going.

(Tip for implementing this more easily: maybe you could reuse and modify the
already-existing code that displays a count-up-clock when you click Slide Show
menu Rehearse Timings.)

What do you think of my idea?
