It works with freedesktop integration, not suse integration, although the operating system is openSUSE. (When I installed openSUSE 11.3, I did not choose the OpenOffice package that came with the installation media. I deselected all components on that package. I downloaded the official OpenOffice from this site, so the suse integration package is the latest. Maybe the suse integration will work on the next release of OpenOffice. I hope so.) The desktop integration package for SuSE dos not create any icons/starters at all so you probably have an older desktop integration package installed (did you ensure to remove it when de-installing OOo via YAST?). If not you might have starters left without linked icons etc. Open YAST, search for openoffice, de-install all and re-install using the freedesktop.org desktop integration.
