key in my Windows registry. The problem is indeed, that in the update
installation the property INSTALLLOCATION is "OpenOffice.org 3" instead of
"c:\program files\OpenOffice.org 3" (or any other directory, in which the OOo
3.2.1 is installed). This broken path leads to error 1606.
But how can this happen? For this I need some information about your system,
after the OOo 3.2.1 is installed.
In all your log files I can see, that the Windows Installer Action "AppSearch"
does not set INSTALLLOCATION to a correct value. In your file log33rc1eUS.txt
you can see this action starting in line 107. The Windows registry is searched
for a key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OpenOffice.org\Layers\OpenOffice.org\3
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OpenOffice.org\Layers\OpenOffice.org\3
Below this key you find some paths, especially INSTALLLOCATION. In all my
installations after this AppSearch INSTALLLOCATION is set to something like
"c:\program files\". But in your case it is empty. But after the installation of
OOo 3.2.1 one of this two keys has to exist. If I remove it manually, I also get
error 1606.
Later in the log file (line 161) you can see the CustomAction
"CompleteInstallPath" that in the case of an update installation adds the
ProductName to the path. So the string "OpenOffice.org 3" is added to the path.
In your case to an empty path. But this happens only, if an older version was
found in the Windows Registry:
HKLM(or
HKCU)/Software/OpenOffice.org/OpenOffice.org/3.2/{7C35B9AB-2CE3-4C18-BE7C-5B97EA089EB3}
(The unique ID is the UpgradeCode of OpenOffice.org).
So this second key was found, but the first key was not found. This is
inconsistent and leads to error 1606. Can you please tell me, if this keys exist
after installation of OOo 3.2.1 and which value the first key has?

There was an old OOo 3.2.1 installed and I installed the new 3.3rc. I was not able to reproduce the described issue on my system. Looks like the issue can only be reproduced on a specific (probably broken / miss configured) system. For now I don't see this as a valid 3.3 release stopper. So i try uninstall OOo 3.2.1 and then install OOo_3.3.0rc3_20101029_Win_x86_install_cs.exe ... and it is OK!
