So this is an error in rc1. This can't be also confirmed by me and hasn't been
reported. I would assume that this is a faulty installation of rc1 on your
system. Please try the tool Windows Install Clean Up to remove rc1. I think I
can close this issue as 'worksforme'.

Have you tried to uninstall OOo 2.0.1 first?

of: I have not yet tried to uninstall 2.0.1, but that is my next step.

hwoarang: I seriously doubt there is a download error, in two different versions
downloaded from different servers. I've never (cross fingers) had a checksum
error in the past. Just to be sure, I'll download it again. Also, the same
error occurs on both RC2 and RC3, making me doubt that it is a checksum error.

Okay, this is interesting: I tried to uninstall RC1 from the control
panel-add/remove programs, and got the exact same error as I get trying to
install RC2 and RC3. Does this shed further light on the problem?

mjneedles: according to Google, the error 1316 that you got is a Windows
Installer problem...

seems you tried/do install from a path that is not the same now... Windows is
referencing the old .msi file... (that's what I understood from my Google
query).

Most of the solutions that I found requires the windows's registry edit (to
remove old references for the software), but I will not advice you to do that
now.

There's the option to use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301). Maybe this
help you., but caution using it.

Hope this can help you a bit.

I can't reproduce. I've installed 2.0.2 rc1
(http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/OOB680_m1/Build-1/OOo_2.0_windows_install_en-US.exe)
and started installation of 2.0.2 rc3
(ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/mirror/OpenOffice/contrib/rc/2.0.2rc3/OOo_2.0.2rc3_060222_Win32Intel_install.exe).
Installation went through without errors.

Please reopen.

This is repeatable with rc3, too.

I suggest checking the ramifications of my configuration. I do not have my
Windows on C: drive, but on D:, and I have 2.0.2RC1 installed in the standard
way. In the newer versions RC2 and RC3, the install goes through all steps
including removal of all old files, then throws the indicated error when it
tries to begin copying new files. When the error dialog is dispatched, Install
rolls back all changes, and RC1 works fine.

END RESULT: I am unable to install either RC2 or RC3.
